Chapter 66

~6 min read 1,095 words

As previously mentioned, Pingdi Town is a quiet, peaceful little town; unlike bustling cities, it doesn’t see many Trainers and Pokémon arriving at the Pokémon Center daily, exhausted from constant battles.

Thus, the Nurse Joy of Pingdi Town has a very leisurely job, mostly handling minor issues like Mrs. So-and-so’s Meowth losing its coin and getting a big bump on its forehead, or Mr. So-and-so’s Pupitar losing its appetite.

When she truly feels bored, the Nurse Joy of Pingdi Town heads into the wild to treat injured wild Pokémon, her medical ethics overflowing.

Luo Mu stood before the closed doors of the Pokémon Center, his expression bewildered.

It’s not even four in the afternoon... why is the Pokémon Center closed?

Luo Mu stood there with his weary Cottonee for a long while, until a woman passing by holding a Meowth noticed their confused backs and approached to remind them: “If you’re looking for Nurse Joy, she’s not here right now.”

“Huh?”

Luo Mu let out a sound of disbelief—he clearly remembered Nurse Joy never took a day off except when sick... no, even when sick, many Nurses would still hold the front lines at the Pokémon Center, hailed alongside Officer Jenny as the MVPs of the Pokémon world.

Luo Mu stopped the woman who had just finished warning him and was about to walk away, asking earnestly: “Sister, is Nurse Joy sick and resting?”

“Calling me ‘sister’... hehehe, what a sweet-talking little boy~” The woman holding Meowth blushed faintly, her movements growing gentler, her attitude instantly shifting as she answered directly: “Since you asked that, you must not have watched today’s news.”

“Our Paldea League Chairman, Chief Champion Ci, announced on the news that due to Typhoon ‘Haiyan’ causing significant damage to wild Pokémon, Paldea, which values harmony with nature, must lend a hand—calling on Nurses with light workloads to head into the wild and assist injured wild Pokémon.”

Luo Mu fell silent... it seemed he’d heard the tail end of that news on his phone earlier, but he’d casually turned it off without continuing to watch—otherwise he wouldn’t have chosen to visit Nurse Joy at this exact time.

What a blunder!

Does this mean he has to turn back home now?

The woman didn’t notice Luo Mu’s expression; she paused, then continued: “But it’s been most of the day since Nurse Joy left—by now, she should be returning to Pingdi Town. If you have an urgent matter, I know exactly where she went. Since you’re so sweet-talking, I’ll tell you for free!”

Luo Mu nodded vigorously: “Please!”

His principle in life: if there’s a chance to solve a problem, solve it immediately—delaying only turns it into a massive mess!

The woman had a very good impression of this polite young man and chuckled: “By the way, this Nurse Joy is a bit special—she went to...”

The wilds of Pingdi Town.

Everywhere, trees had been toppled or snapped by the typhoon; the earthen ground was muddy, and one misstep would coat shoes in stubborn, hard-to-clean clumps of mud.

Nurse Joy, dressed in her pink nurse uniform, walked alongside her partner, Clefairy, across the muddy ground. Her once clean, neat outfit and tidy hairstyle were now smeared with mud from intense rescue efforts, disheveled and grimy.

Her hands and arms were wrapped in thick bandages, as if injured.

Yet Nurse Joy’s delicate face showed no complaint—instead, she smiled brightly, carrying her medical kit step by step toward Pingdi Town.

Today, she’d treated many wild Pokémon injured by the typhoon; no matter how hard or tiring, she felt it was all worth it.

After all, the Pokémon Center might not get a single Trainer coming in for treatment in a whole day—later, she’d take Clefairy to the market to buy some boiled peanuts and a dozen chilled beers to properly reward herself for a hard day’s work!

Nurse Joy’s smile deepened; walking through the mud, she seemed to glide as if carried by the wind.

“Lucky!”

Only then did the quiet voice of Clefairy beside her draw Nurse Joy’s attention. As longtime partners who graduated together from nursing school, Nurse Joy instantly understood Clefairy’s meaning—a wounded wild Pokémon!

Nurse Joy snapped out of her daydream, her gaze sharpening instantly. Following Clefairy’s tiny paw pointing, she saw a massive tree—thick as two or three people could embrace—had snapped. Beneath it, a trapped Pokémon and its frantic companions stood out unmistakably.

“That’s... Linepithicum?” Nurse Joy widened her eyes, quickly identifying the wild Pokémon—the rare formation-type Pokémon Linepithicum, composed of six individual units.

She immediately turned to Clefairy beside her: “Come on, let’s help!”

Clefairy responded swiftly: “Lucky!”

Perhaps due to Nurse Joy’s nurturing presence and Clefairy’s excellent reputation among wild Pokémon, her arrival didn’t trigger panic in the five Linepithicum subordinates frantically circling the trunk to rescue their leader—instead, they actively sought her help.

Nurse Joy first soothed each of the Linepithicum subordinates, who bore various injuries, then turned her gaze to the Linepithicum leader, crushed beneath the trunk, unconscious for who-knew-how-long.

“We must move the broken trunk immediately and begin emergency treatment—otherwise, the Linepithicum leader’s life is in danger!”

Nurse Joy made her judgment swiftly. The five Linepithicum subordinates looked at each other, their expressions puzzled—they’d have moved the trunk themselves if they had the strength.

Nurse Joy smiled, stepped forward between the confused stares of the Linepithicum and the encouraging cheers of the Clefairy, rolled up her sleeves, squatted into a stable stance, and reached her bandaged hands into the crack of the trunk. Her sweet voice suddenly deepened: “GIVE—ME—HOLD!”

To the stunned stares of the Linepithicum subordinates, the thick trunk shifted—lifted clean off the ground by Nurse Joy alone—revealing the unconscious body of the trapped Linepithicum leader.

With her entire body straining, Nurse Joy’s commanding gaze locked onto the frozen subordinates and snapped: “What are you standing there for? Go save your leader!”

Only then did the Linepithicum subordinates snap to attention, swarming forward to pull their leader free.

Seeing their leader rescued, Nurse Joy slowly bent down and returned the massive trunk to its original position.

All of this had been witnessed by Luo Mu, who had arrived following the woman’s directions.

At first, he’d planned to lend a hand—but after witnessing this, he finally understood why the woman said this Nurse Joy was special.

Lifting a tree trunk thick as two or three people could embrace—with just her own strength... this monstrous power was terrifying!

What is this?

A neighbor’s Nurse Joy has grown up—her strength lifts mountains, her spirit towers over the world?
