Chapter 78: The Face of the Capitalist

~5 min read 961 words

Kukui’s account made Luo Mu’s ears perk up, and he fell into thought.

A typhoon—could it be the typhoon “Haiyan” that formed a few days ago over the South Patia Sea?

Did Kukui directly encounter the typhoon over the South Patia Sea, and escape to the outskirts of Flatplate Town with Brave Eagle?

Can we say Brave Eagle truly lives up to its reputation as the “Warrior of the Sky” in Unova and the “Brave of the Sky” in Alola?

Thinking of this, Luo Mu noticed a blind spot and asked curiously: “When encountering a typhoon, couldn’t you temporarily dive underwater to avoid waves and high winds?”

“I noticed you carry a small underwater gear set—those oxygen supplies should let you stay underwater for at least half an hour, enough time to move underwater to an area where the wind has weakened.”

Hearing this, Kukui sighed helplessly: “You know as well as I do—I don’t have any Pokémon that can help me dive. With just my own strength, I’d be swept back by the waves before reaching any significant depth.”

Luo Mu rubbed his chin, recalling Kukui’s Pokémon.

Flareon, Brave Eagle, Venusaur, Lucario, Lycanroc (day form), and... Snorlax.

None of them can swim—what gave Kukui the courage to cross the sea directly like this?

As if remembering something, Luo Mu said seriously: “By the way, Kukui, while you were unconscious, I’ve been taking care of your Pokémon.”

“Huh?”

Kukui froze, confused why Luo Mu suddenly mentioned this.

Luo Mu smiled warmly: “Your Snorlax is quite impressive—great appetite, eats well, very healthy.”

Kukui: “........”

After a few breaths, Kukui asked weakly: “Where are my energy blocks?”

“Probably lost?”

Luo Mu glanced at Dragonite behind him; Dragonite nodded knowingly and stepped out of the room.

Soon after, Dragonite returned carrying a cleaned backpack and handed it directly to Kukui.

Kukui blinked, then took the backpack under Dragonite’s urging and opened it to check.

After a moment, Kukui exhaled slightly—he’d lost some items, but they were all consumables; the important ones remained.

As for the energy blocks he’d prepared for Snorlax, not a single box remained.

Snorlax has an enormous appetite; if fed only ordinary food, each one needs over 400 kilograms daily just to avoid hunger.

This terrifying appetite stems from Snorlax’s sturdy stomach and extraordinary digestion.

Moldy food or even Sludge’s poison are digestible for Snorlax—in truth, if given nutrient-rich food, it doesn’t need 400 kilograms.

Energy blocks are tiny yet packed with concentrated nutrition, making them the ideal food for Snorlax trainers to carry.

It seemed Kukui had struggled these past few days to feed Snorlax while unconscious.

After putting the backpack away, Kukui looked at Luo Mu apologetically: “I’m truly sorry—how much food did Snorlax eat from your farm? I’ll pay full compensation.”

“Also, after talking so long, I still don’t know the name of the one who saved me.”

Luo Mu smiled: “I’m Luo Mu, an ordinary farmer. As for compensation—your Pokémon have been helping me with physical labor these past few days. Let’s forget about repayment.”

Though Snorlax eats a lot, after Luo Mu sent his Pokémon to retrieve a few high-energy foods from the wild, the feeding cost over two or three days was manageable.

Kukui felt embarrassed—Luo Mu had not only saved him but also shown such generosity. As someone from Alola, he felt he owed Luo Mu something in return.

If he asked directly, Luo Mu would surely refuse.

Kukui thought for a moment, then outwardly accepted Luo Mu’s kindness, resolving to observe over the next few days of recovery what he could do to help.

Soon after, a small bowl of plain rice porridge was brought in; starving, Kukui lifted the bowl, ready to gulp it down.

Dragonite, left by Luo Mu to monitor Kukui’s condition, growled disapprovingly, reminding him to chew slowly—otherwise his stomach would suffer.

Kukui could only smile sheepishly and sip the bland porridge slowly.

Even after drinking the bowl, his empty stomach still growled; to distract himself, Kukui asked Dragonite to open the window beside the bed and adjust his sleeping position so he could see the view outside.

Opening the window, the first sight was the endless sky and boundless land; below, the most striking feature was vast, neatly arranged farmland divided by irrigation channels.

Most of the fields had already been sown, and many figures were busy working.

Besides Luo Mu, whom he’d spoken with earlier, Kukui spotted his own Pokémon in the fields.

Venusaur’s vines plunged into the soil alongside several Whitepuffs, enriching the earth; Lucario and Flareon skillfully dropped seeds into prepared holes; Brave Eagle and Lycanroc helped carry supplies—all orderly.

Well, ignoring Snorlax fast asleep not far away, it certainly looked that way.

Further off, he could make out the outline of what might be a pond or lake, and a wide pasture filled with lush grass.

To him, the farm looked like it had just begun.

Kukui’s Pokémon noticed his gaze and immediately paused their work, turning toward him in delight.

Feeling his strength slowly returning after the porridge, Kukui cautiously raised his hand.

It moved easily—no more weakness as before.

Kukui slowly waved his right hand toward his Pokémon, his face beaming.

Luo Mu watched every motion; seeing his own Pokémon work harder now that their Trainer had awakened, Luo Mu smiled. He’d likely finish the spring sowing in the farmland with Kukui’s Pokémon alone.

Compared to hired laborers demanding wages, Pokémon that eat only a few mouthfuls and possess greater strength and stamina than humans were far more useful.

Kukui’s Pokémon could work from dawn till dusk without pause—Luo Mu would never tire of his own Pokémon pushing so hard, but with Kukui’s, it was different.
