Chapter 99: Go Home!
To showcase the results of its training as the island’s guardian, Kapu-Kahu personally organized a “Move Reveal Event.”
First to appear before Luo Mu and Kukui was Kingdra.
To be honest, after climbing Lanakila Mountain with Kukui, Luo Mu had confidently left Kingdra and the others in Kapu-Kahu’s hands—this grass-field expert—and had been busy training Cutiefly, so he had no idea how well Kingdra and the others had mastered their moves.
Yet when Kingdra unleashed the moves it had learned during this time before Luo Mu’s eyes, Luo Mu couldn’t hold back his shock.
Kingdra demonstrated two moves in sequence.
The first was “Seed Bomb,” a move of decent power, seemingly learned naturally from eating too many of Kapu-Kahu’s planted berries.
The second move was called “Grass Pledge,” which granted extreme speed during attack, and even greater speed when used on grass terrain.
Luo Mu stared in disbelief at Kingdra: “You only learned two attacking moves?!”
Kingdra turned its head away, refusing to meet Luo Mu’s gaze.
What could it do?
Even though its power had improved slightly from the plant energy nourishment provided by Kapu-Kahu these past few days, some moves just couldn’t be learned!
Luo Mu glared at Kapu-Kahu’s evasive gaze with dead-fish eyes—great, even the island guardian had given up on Kingdra because of its abysmal compatibility with grass terrain.
“Even the island guardian Kapu-Kahu couldn’t teach Kingdra grass terrain?”
Kukui’s eyes darted between Kingdra, Kapu-Kahu, and Luo Mu in shock—he hadn’t expected Luo Mu was telling the truth; Kingdra’s compatibility with grass terrain was terrifyingly low!
Sensing Kukui’s impolite stare, Kingdra was annoyed but didn’t lash out with its vines like it did to Luo Mu.
After all, Kingdra had already decided: outside battle, its vine whip would move only for Luo Mu.
Fortunately, the next to appear—the three Blushens—performed admirably. Three green lights rippled outward, spreading across the ground, instantly awakening a vibrant green luminescence.
Closer inspection revealed the luminescence was countless blades of grass glowing emerald green; on the open mountainside, gentle breezes stirred them, producing a soft rustling sound.
Though each Blushen’s grass terrain covered only a basketball court’s area, under Kapu-Kahu’s training, the three overlapping grass terrains now blanketed a vast surrounding region.
That wasn’t all.
After being captured by Luo Mu, Florges had also joined their training squad; though a Fairy-type Pokémon, Florges could also learn the grass terrain move.
Under Kapu-Kahu’s tutelage, Florges had perfectly mastered grass terrain.
The addition of the fourth grass terrain expanded the entire field further.
Normally, Pokémon moves could never coexist without grueling training—even identical moves would clash.
The result of contact was always energy colliding and exploding.
Yet these four Pokémon’s grass terrains fused together in perfect harmony, as if naturally born as one.
Luo Mu looked at Kapu-Kahu with puzzled eyes; its simple yet wise eyes curled into a smile, clearly implying that in just a few days, Kapu-Kahu hadn’t just taught the Blushens and Florges grass terrain—it had helped them turn it into a “combined technique”!
Kapu-Kahu turned to Luo Mu and spoke: “Moo~ Moo, moo!”
Luo Mu blinked, then said: “You mean you originally wanted Kingdra to learn the essence of your grass terrain, but it couldn’t grasp it at all, so you shifted focus to helping the weaker Blushens. But since they were still too weak to learn the essence, you developed this four-in-one grass terrain instead?”
“Hssss”
Before Kapu-Kahu could respond, Luo Mu sucked in a sharp breath from sheer astonishment.
No wonder—it was no surprise Kapu-Kahu, the master of grass terrain, had reached such an extraordinary level of mastery.
After the Blushens and Florges finished their demonstration, Kingdra gently tapped each of them on the head with its vine, wearing an approving expression.
After all, the Blushens were its subordinates; their mastery of grass terrain was as good as its own—outcome-wise, the difference was negligible!
Finally appearing was Mudsdale, who had been steadily refining its Earthquake move under Kapu-Kahu’s guidance.
Luo Mu paid full attention to Mudsdale’s performance.
If grass terrain merely affected crop growth rates and similar factors, soil was the foundation—only nutrient-rich soil could grow the finest crops.
Compared to just a few days ago, Mudsdale’s speed and precision in using Earthquake had improved by more than several times; it no longer needed to dig individual holes with its hooves. Under ground-type energy, the soil was effortlessly lifted, loosened, and enriched.
Luo Mu stepped forward to inspect it—the soil quality still fell far short of Kapu-Kahu’s transformed black earth, but it was already exceptional.
Whether from the fine fissures in the loosened soil or the nutrient-rich composition confirmed by Kapu-Kahu’s approval—
If there were a game interface, Mudsdale’s mastery of Earthquake had risen from “Beginner” to “Expert.” With continued training, as its level and experience grew, reaching “Master” level wasn’t impossible.
By the way, Kapu-Kahu’s Earthquake was probably “Divine” level.
No wonder it was Kapu-Kahu—in just a few days, it had made the Blushens, Florges, and Mudsdale so proficient in grass terrain and Earthquake.
That afternoon, constrained by vacation time, Luo Mu couldn’t stay longer in Alola; besides, Pokémon were waiting for him at home.
After completely cleaning up all traces of his camping, he recalled his Pokémon into Poké Balls, slung his backpack over his shoulder, and bowed deeply to Kapu-Kahu: “Respected island guardian Kapu-Kahu, thank you for instructing my companions these past days.”
As the land deity of Alola, Luo Mu spoke to Kapu-Kahu with formal, solemn tone.
Kapu-Kahu regarded him silently for a few moments, as if remembering something, then poured two crystals from between its hooves and offered them to Luo Mu.
Luo Mu’s lip twitched—was Kapu-Kahu’s hoof gap some kind of fourth-dimensional treasure chest?
Yet he could see the crystals in his palm: one emerald green, the other earthy yellow.
Kukui instantly recognized Kapu-Kahu’s intent and said enviously: “Kapu-Kahu seems to want to give you the Grass-type Z-Crystal and the Ground-type Z-Crystal.”
Luo Mu looked at Kapu-Kahu; after receiving its nod of confirmation, he bowed and said: “I accept your generosity with gratitude.”
“Moo~”
Kapu-Kahu nodded, waved goodbye, then ignored whether Luo Mu had left or not, found a comfortable spot, and lay down to nap.
Luo Mu smiled warmly, mounted the waiting Dragonite, and whispered: “Let’s go home.”
Dragonite nodded firmly, its eyes gleaming with anticipation: “Bwooo!”
