Chapter 229: The Assembled Phone

~6 min read 1,085 words

"Other worlds are other worlds, why are you so worked up?" Gengar floated before Huo La, shaking its round, plump body, "Haven't you already encountered beings from other worlds?"

Being asked that by Gengar, Huo La's excitement instantly faded away, leaving only a hint of self‑mockery—he had indeed acted too recklessly just now.

Calming down to think carefully, he leaned against the chair back and let out a soft sigh.

In the end, he still harbored a hidden hope about "going back," so hearing "Parallel Divergent World" made his emotions churn.

"But seriously, that Sakaki from the other world has a better sense of aesthetics than you guys here." Gengar suddenly changed tone, with a hint of praise, "Your Rocket Team's shabby uniform has a black 'R'—over there it's actually multicolored, much easier on the eyes."

"A multicolored 'R' logo?" Huo La sat up abruptly, muttering it again, his pupils snapping shut as if recalling an earth‑shattering secret, eyes full of disbelief, "Rainbow Rocket Team!"

"Yes, the kind that's bright and rainbow‑colored!" Gengar nodded heavily, pleased with the name Huo La coined, "Saying it like that, it really fits."

Huo La leaned back in the chair, a bitter smile crossing his face, and muttered low, "Damn, that's a huge joke."

"Hm? What's wrong?" Gengar sensed his tone was off, floated closer with puzzlement, "That Sakaki may be strong, but he hasn't really done anything to us, right? Even if we can't beat him, we can still run away, can't we?"

"No, I'm not worried about him alone," Huo La shook his head, his complexion growing more solemn, "What I fear is that from other worlds, there are more than just that one Sakaki..."

"What do you mean 'more than just him'?" Gengar was completely baffled, his pale green eyes full of confusion, "Are there other people from other worlds as well?"

Huo La inhaled deeply, then spoke slowly, his voice low and restrained: "The 'Rainbow Rocket Team' doesn't refer to a single Rocket Team; it's a group of evil beings from different Parallel Worlds, each no weaker than Sakaki— they converge using Nekrozma's Spatial Power, forming a terrifying organization."

He paused, his tone tinged with a shiver, "Each of them possesses the power to command Divine Beasts. Can you imagine? A bunch of top‑tier villains who can ride Mega Divine Beasts, gathered together..."

"Sss—" Gengar couldn't help but gasp sharply; even though it hadn't seen other Mega Divine Beasts, the sheer might of that mega Aerodactyl was still fresh in its memory, and the thought of a group of villains capable of handling such class of Divine Beasts made it shiver.

"Damn, doesn't that mean we're finished?" Gengar shouted, then his eyes lit up as if seizing a lifeline, "Since they rely on that thing called Nekrozma, can't we use that same power to send them back?"

Huo La glanced at it, his tone tinged with resignation, "The idea's fine, but the problem is, to send them back you first have to defeat them, right?"

He paused again, counting on his fingers, "Each of them is no weaker than a World Champion; I recall the Rainbow Rocket Team has seven core members. That means we need to assemble seven World Champion‑level forces to match them, and we also have to locate Nekrozma— not to mention whether we can even find it, let alone harness its power, is an unknown."

"Then what exactly is this Nekrozma?" Gengar pressed, clearly curious about the key.

"You can think of it as a Divine Beast on par with Ho‑Oh and Lugia," Huo La explained simply, "It's just more unique—a being exclusive to a certain Parallel World. Its existence is a mystery, and it's also the key that lets them traverse worlds."

"That's way too troublesome!" Gengar buzzed irritably around the room, "So what now? Just sit and wait for doom?"

Huo La inhaled deeply, walked to the bedside, sleepiness flooding in like a tide. He let out a long yawn, pulled the blanket over himself, and said, "Now? Now we sleep first. I've been up all night; my brain can barely keep turning."

He closed his eyes, his voice muffled, "If the sky falls, a tall one will hold it up. When the Rainbow Rocket Team starts causing trouble, the League won't just stand by. Rest up first; the rest we'll handle after we wake up."

When Huo La woke again, the sun outside had already shifted westward—it was already afternoon.

If his stomach hadn't been growling, he might have slept straight through to the middle of the night.

After all, last night was more than just staying up; a cascade of incidents and brain‑teasing analysis had already drained all his spirit.

Huo La propped his limp body up, splashed cold water on his face haphazardly, and finally regained a bit of clarity.

He raised his voice to the phone in his pocket, commanding, "Rotom, check whether any messages or calls were missed while I was asleep."

I have to say, a Rotom like that is practically a must‑have, thoughtful travel butler.

It needs no extra instructions from its master; it knows what to handle and what to ignore—just as when Huo La was deep asleep, it automatically filtered out all irrelevant messages, letting not a single noise disturb his rest.

"Received!" Rotom's electronic tone chimed brightly, "Detected a missed call labeled 【Father】; should I redial now?"

Huo La blinked, then realized who it was, and casually replied, "Redial."

A few busy tones rang on the other end before the line connected, and Jiecheng's bright voice came through the receiver, "You little brat, finally answered! I called several times and no one picked up—what big thing were you busy with?"

Huo La stretched a huge yawn, unable to hold back a long sigh, his tone lazy, "What else could I do? I burned the night pondering things, just woke up. What, did dad call out of concern that his son is out there munching bread and wants to send me allowance?"

"Send money? Dream on!" Jiecheng laughed scoldingly, then shifted, "Seriously, I've already returned to Kanto. By the way, where are you now?"

"Viridian City."

"Whoa, you kid moved fast!" Jiecheng's voice held surprise, then continued, "Alright, that works—later keep an eye on the delivery. There's a package the Doctor BuLaTaNuo asked me to forward to you, a welcome gift. I originally planned to wait until you got home, but since you're in Viridian City, I'll send it directly."
