Chapter 302: Moonlight by the Lakeside

~7 min read 1,250 words

On the road toward the Tian Guan Mountain Foothills, Beishang hurried and caught up with Huo La.

Huo La glanced at him as he drew beside him, thought briefly, and turned his head to give a look to Ming Yao and Xiao Zhao.

The two exchanged a glance, understood each other, slowed their steps, and deliberately put some distance between themselves and him.

"Beishang Field Master, is there something you need me for?" Huo La asked first.

Beishang stared at him solemnly for a moment, as if weighing his words, then slowly said, "When I arrived in Hisui I lost my memory. I want to ask you whether you know me, whether you know who I really am."

Huo La was not surprised by the question, and calmly replied, "So you've already realized that you're not a person of this world?"

"Hmm." Beishang nodded. "When the Evening Reed Field Master found me back then, he said I fell from the sky. Over the years, I could recall nothing but my own name, until you appeared, and I vaguely sensed that I might also have come here from the future."

Huo La looked at the man before him, let out a soft sigh, and slowly nodded, "You truly came here from the future, and you belong to the same era as me."

Hearing this, Beishang's eyes lit up instantly, a wave of unmistakable hope stirring within them.

Huo La lowered his voice and slowly explained, "You are from the Heizhu Region, you have a younger brother named Nan Xia, and the two of you are the future Unova commanders of the Metro battles."

As he spoke, Huo La's gaze remained fixed on Beishang's face, never wavering.

But in his eyes Huo La saw only pure excitement and sudden realization, no other expression—clearly, Beishang truly had lost all his past memories.

"Do you want to go back?" Huo La suddenly asked.

Beishang's steps halted abruptly; after a moment of silence he gently shook his head, "I don't know. I have no memories of the past, and for me now, Hisui feels more like my home."

Huo La fell silent; perhaps Beishang's words were right.

He and Beishang were ultimately different; he arrived in Hisui carrying memories, even memories of two lives, and for him this place was merely a scenery along a journey, and he would eventually have to return.

The two fell silent for a moment, then walked side by side forward.

Upon reaching the Pearl Team Base at the Tian Guan Mountain Foothills, the team members saw Beishang and greeted him eagerly.

Mu Chun, when nearing the Tian Guan Mountain Foothills, split from Beishang, Huo La and the others, heading toward the Diamond Team's base on the other side.

As night fell, the three stayed inside the tent.

This was a lodging that Beishang had specially arranged for them; initially the three wanted to go immediately to deal with the Da Niu La matter, but Beishang firmly stopped them.

Huo La looked at Ming Yao and Xiao Zhao before him, thought for a moment, lifted the backpack beside him, and pulled out a bunch of items, placing them before the two.

"These are Pokémon supplies from later eras; I arrived in a hurry and didn't prepare much, they're just everyday items, you two can share them." Xiao Zhao was startled for a moment, then reached out, her small hand rummaging curiously through the pile.

Ming Yao, however, showed hesitation and asked, "Huo La, what is this…"

"It now appears that the matters in Hisui are far from simple, and you two are among the few helpers I have; being able to boost your strength is a great aid to me."

As Huo La spoke, he also took a handful of candies from the bag and placed them on the ground between the three.

"These are the candies I mentioned to a few Captains during the day, which can boost Pokémon strength. I don't have many, Ming Yao, let's split them."

Ming Yao picked up a candy, rolled it between his fingers, stared for a moment, then said, "Huo La, you in the later era… are probably not an ordinary person either."

Huo La was taken aback, quickly understood the probing, twitched his mouth, and gave a wry smile, "I can only say that my elders are quite powerful."

Without mentioning Professor Oak, even just his parents' and grandmother's social circle already sits at the top tier of the future world.

He suddenly realized that he indeed could not be called a 'child of an ordinary family.'

Ming Yao gave a gentle nod and placed the candy back into his hand.

Huo La watched his action, slightly hesitant, "The candy is fine."

Ming Yao shook his head, his voice calm, "I know. I just think— you need these more than I do."

Huo La looked at Ming Yao's sincere eyes, gave a gentle nod, "I understand."

He carefully tucked the candy into his pocket, then stood up and walked toward the outside.

"I'll go find a quiet place to boost my Pokémon."

Ming Yao and Xiao Zhao exchanged a glance, said nothing to stop him, and silently watched his silhouette fade into the night.

Not far from the Pearl Team Base lay a tranquil lake.

The moonlight spilled over the lake like mercury, scattering delicate silver glimmers.

Huo La stood at the lake's edge, inhaled deeply, steadied his mind for a moment, then reached behind his waist and decisively tossed all four Pokeballs.

Red Light flashed:

The Pincher Tail Scorpion landed steadily, its tail hook glinting cold metallic light under the moon.

The Fireburst Beast planted its four limbs, let out a low growl, and exhaled tiny sparks.

The Leaf Eevee landed lightly on the grass, almost immediately hopped over, and brushed Huo La's arm with its soft forehead.

Magikarp made a 'splash' and plunged straight into the lake, bubbling out a string of bubbles that rippled circles across the surface.

Huo La crouched, gently stroked the Leaf Eevee's smooth fur, and a faint smile curled his mouth.

Sure enough… entrusting the Leaf Eevee to Gangshi's care was the right decision.

The Leaf Eevee before him was already at level 36. What surprised him further was that two new moves had quietly appeared in its skill slot: Sunny Day, Sunlight Blade.

One changes the weather to strengthen Fire-type moves, the other is a high‑power, high‑crit Grass-type physical technique.

"Sunny Day" is likely a racial trait skill naturally mastered during level‑up.

And the name "Sunlight Blade", sharp and full of power, immediately reflects Gangshi's training—direct and fierce.

Huo La released his hand from the gentle stroke of the Leaf Eevee and turned his gaze toward the lake.

The water rippled lightly; Magikarp lazily blew bubbles, its round eyes reflecting a silly glint in the moonlight.

Huo La thought for a moment, reached into his pocket, pulled out all the candies, and selected the brightest orange one.

He skillfully tore the wrapper, pinched the candy in his hand, and said, "Come, open your mouth."

Magikarp seemed to understand, leapt up half its body, opened its mouth wide, and with a 'snap' caught the candy, gulping it with a gurgle.

The next second.

The moonlight, as if drawn by an invisible force, let the delicate silver glimmer converge onto the Magikarp.

Its plump body hovered above the water, the surrounding splash froze for an instant, then a dazzling white light burst from within it!
