Chapter 133: The End of the Lost One

~8 min read 1,557 words

After consciously avoiding the city's surveillance cameras, Ding Mo returned to the abandoned factory.

Inside the park, he found a cart and pulled the "large cocoon" inside.

Returning to the bearded man's home, Ding Mo discovered that he was not home, nor did he know where he had gone.

In the empty room, after pondering for a while, Ding Mo turned around to leave.

But as he passed a corner of the room, something caught his attention.

It was a calendar, the same as the one he had just seen at his own home.

However, the date displayed on it was the current date: Month X, Day X, 2035.

Yet, no matter how Ding Mo looked at it, he felt something was wrong.

Ding Mo reached out his hand, his fingertips brushing over the rough edge of the calendar—he wanted to try turning the page, and to his surprise, this calendar,

was also stuck!

Ding Mo's pupils constricted!

He then tried for a while longer and discovered that the situation with this calendar was almost exactly the same as the one at his home just now!

At most, the situation was slightly milder; it seemed to have experienced less erosion by time.

"How could this be?"

An absurd and cold feeling crawled up his spine, and Ding Mo's expression shifted constantly.

Finally, he raised his head, his sharp gaze sweeping across the room. It eventually settled on the heavy iron cabinet that was nearly two meters long.

The several padlocks and chains on it also showed signs of rust. The intense sense of confinement made one wonder what was hidden inside.

After a few seconds of silence, Ding Mo wiped his right hand across his face, and a porcelain-white mask was already worn.

Prince Mask!

Without a shred of hesitation, he stepped forward, his hands directly grabbing the cold chains and the giant lock, and amidst a terrifying sound,

he snapped and crushed them!

Pulling open the iron cabinet door, which had become somewhat distorted due to his immense strength, Ding Mo looked inside.

Amidst a flurry of flying dust,

inside the iron cabinet, there stood a white Wax Figure he had already seen three times, and on that face, which was identical to the bearded man's, a look of relief still remained.

It seemed as if it were happy to have finally escaped this terrifying world.

This bearded man was actually also a "Guaishou"!

Based on what he saw now, he inferred that after being completely replaced by these clone-like Guaishou, humans would die, and their corpses would turn into this kind of white Wax Figure.

Then, the Guaishou would completely replace that human's position, relationships, and everything in society, including their name, age, and so on.

!! Even though Ding Mo had already vaguely had the answer in his heart, he still stood frozen on the spot at this moment.

Then, why did this guy want to help him?

Why did he want to tell him about the situation in this world?

What was his purpose?

A series of questions erupted in Ding Mo's heart.

How much of what the bearded man said before was true, and how much was false?

"No, the activities of these things follow a pattern." Ding Mo thought of Li Shu and his "parents" again.

Those Guaishou not only looked exactly like the people they replaced, but their behavioral patterns and lifestyles were also almost entirely imitated.

Li Shu was a convenience store owner who liked to watch shows in his spare time; the Guaishou that replaced him did the same. The "parents" had to go to work, which was also based on this reason.

These Guaishou are "Mimozhe" that only act according to the behavioral patterns of the humans they imitate, unless someone, like Ding Mo before,

said certain things that could not be said...

Seen in this light, the "bearded man's" behavior made sense.

As a "Lost One" resisting the weirdness, he survived until ten years later, but was eventually found and replaced by his "imitator,"

and finally, like everyone else, he turned into a white Wax Figure corpse.

And his "imitator" took his place as the "Lost One," continuing the life he had lived before.

In other words, after this guy had been a Lost One for a long time, he was once again sought out and replaced by those Guaishou.

How pathetic...

Having sorted out the cause and effect, Ding Mo let out a long breath, feeling inexplicably sorrowful.

If even a "Lost One" like the bearded man who had lived for ten years could not escape this fate, then what about other humans?

Going a step further, are there any real humans left in this world?

Is it possible that everyone has already turned into Guaishou disguised as humans?

For a moment, Ding Mo felt as if he had fallen into hell, surrounded by mad ghosts disguised as humans, with only him being a real person.

No, he wasn't a real person either, just a weirdness born for no reason...

Ding Mo immediately thought of the bearded man's wife, but based on his previous experiences and his observations,

after the person dies, the memories of the disguised Guaishou also stagnate. For example, "Li Shu" and the "parents"—their memories all stopped in 2025.

Inferring from this, the "bearded man" he saw now also had memories that stopped at the year 2035.

In that year, there were still humans barely surviving, but what about now?

What year of this world is it now? Are there still humans alive?

Perhaps it is twenty years later, perhaps longer; there is no way to know...

With complex thoughts in his heart, the successive impact of massive information made Ding Mo feel dizzy.

Shaking his head and temporarily putting these questions aside, Ding Mo removed the mask, glanced at the iron cabinet, and walked to the door.

No matter what, it had nothing to do with him anymore; there was only one thing he wanted to do now...

However, just as Ding Mo thought to open the door and go out, he suddenly heard a commotion coming from outside.

The next second, the door handle began to turn!

Someone was coming in!

……

"Gao Yue, are you sure you saw him go in?"

Not far in front of the cabin, the three people carrying coffins appeared. The youth in a school uniform, named "A Chu," said to another man with a high nose bridge:

"Why didn't I hear any movement?"

"Perhaps..." the man with the high nose bridge thought for a moment and said:

"He was killed by that Guaishou after it sensed something was wrong."

"Gao Yue!" a tall woman in her twenties to the side called out irritably.

"I know, I know." Gao Yue smiled and raised his hands in surrender.

While the two were joking, A Chu had already opened the cabin door.

He looked into the room for a moment, then unstrapped the heavy coffin from his back and walked toward the doorway.

But just as he was about to enter, a black shadow lunged from above the door!

"Not good!" A Chu's expression changed abruptly!

In the next instant, he displayed extreme reflexes, leaning back to dodge it. Instead, it was Gao Yue behind him who suffered.

The black shadow hung from the door frame and delivered a flying kick, sending Gao Yue tumbling backward, his high nose bridge crooked.

A Chu reacted then; his waist twisted like a python, and he shifted to the side, preparing to pounce and grapple the attacker.

But the black shadow had already tapped its toes on the ground, flickering to put distance between them, causing A Chu to lunge at empty air. When the figure landed and stood in a standoff with the three, they realized—it was Ding Mo!

Ding Mo looked at the three and the strange coffins they carried, his face expressionless.

"Damn it!" While A Chu was stunned, Gao Yue, who had climbed to his feet, was enraged from having taken a kick!

He let out a roar, completely ignoring the dissuasion of the other two, and charged at Ding Mo like a wild bull, his two arms reaching out like iron pincers toward Ding Mo!

Ding Mo glanced at him sideways and used a move called "Heaven and Earth Reversal"—head down, body suspended upside down, he whipped his legs out,

smashing fiercely into the side of Gao Yue's neck.

With a dull thud, Gao Yue, having suffered a heavy blow, rolled his eyes back and collapsed to the side with his coffin on his back, motionless for the moment.

"Gao Yue?!" The other two were quite shocked.

Given Gao Yue's physical constitution, even A Chu wouldn't dare say he could deal with him so easily, yet this young man before them had done just that!

"Alright, now you can talk." Ding Mo stepped on the coffin on Gao Yue's back while pulling out his Tactical Dagger, pressing it against the latter's throat.

His gaze faintly drifted past A Chu and the other person, landing on the "large cocoon" behind them.

He had been a bit careless; he hadn't expected that leaving his parents' "remains" outside for just a few minutes would result in them being taken by others.

Therefore, he needed a "hostage" as well!
