Chapter 1651
"Master Xuanzang, Fahai can only escort you to this point. Let us part ways here!"
Hearing this, Tang Sanzang also spoke up to express his gratitude:
"Master Fahai, this time it is thanks to your timely arrival; otherwise, this poor monk's life would likely have been lost in that Wuzhuang Temple."
"This poor monk has no other gifts to offer as thanks, so I shall borrow the Great Immortal Zhenyuanzi's Ginseng Fruit to present as a gift to you, Master Fahai."
Tang Sanzang had already eaten two Flat Peaches, so although this Ginseng Fruit was of extraordinary value, it had no further use for him.
Therefore, Tang Sanzang took it out directly, intending to give it to Fahai.
Fahai, feeling the same way Tang Sanzang had earlier, originally wanted to refuse, but Tang Sanzang was simply too generous:
"Then, many thanks, Master Xuanzang!"
"Master Xuanzang, I wish you a bright future!"
"If in the future, Master Xuanzang encounters trouble, just send someone to find me at Jin Shansi; Fahai will certainly not refuse."
"Farewell!"
After Fahai finished speaking, he left the place directly.
Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, and the others could only watch Fahai depart, and then they once again set foot on the road to Western Lingshan.
Western Lingshan.
Maitreya Buddha and Venerable Kasyapa, after returning to Lingshan,
Maitreya Buddha could no longer hold it in; his expression was extremely ugly. Although he still maintained a smile, Venerable Kasyapa, who was beside him, could see the deep chill within it.
After all, this time, Maitreya Buddha had paid a huge price.
So many heavenly treasures were paid for by Maitreya Buddha himself; the two Saints of the Western Fomen, Jieyin and Zhunti, would not reimburse him, Venerable Kasyapa.
Thinking of this, Maitreya Buddha felt extremely uncomfortable and heartbroken.
Especially since the culprit was right in front of him, even if Maitreya Buddha wanted to forget, he could not.
"Venerable Kasyapa, since you have committed such a grave error, you shall confine yourself and reflect on your mistakes. As for the status I previously granted you..."
Hearing this, how could Venerable Kasyapa not know that Maitreya Buddha intended to revoke the status he had been given in the Western Fomen—that of being below one person but above ten thousand.
Even though Venerable Kasyapa was very reluctant, the situation was compelling, and he had no choice but to give it up.
Thus, Venerable Kasyapa replied:
"Buddha Maitreya, this time it was I, Venerable Kasyapa, who botched the task. How could I still have the face to continue standing in that position?"
"Buddha Maitreya should naturally take it back; it can also serve as a warning to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the Western Fomen that mistakes must be punished."
"Hmm, since you have recognized your mistake, I will say no more."
Having said that, Maitreya Buddha left directly without even looking at Venerable Kasyapa.
It was not that Maitreya Buddha did not want to punish him more severely, but that he simply could not.
In the current Western Fomen, Venerable Kasyapa could be considered the only Quasi-Saint who followed Maitreya Buddha's orders.
If he were to drive Venerable Kasyapa away as well, who else would be left to carry out his orders?
Rely on Bodhisattva Manjusri? Or rely on Bodhisattva Samantabhadra?
It was precisely because of these considerations that Maitreya Buddha only gave Venerable Kasyapa such a punishment.
