Chapter 1665: Not a shred of brains
The West.
Above Lingshan.
Maitreya Buddha, along with the myriad Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, felt just as bewildered as the immortals who had attacked the Heavenly Court.
Before their eyes, Maitreya Buddha could not understand this series of maneuvers by Tang Sanzang.
Let's be reasonable!
The tribulation at White Tiger Ridge had been personally orchestrated by Maitreya Buddha; he had even gone to great lengths to set it up.
Maitreya Buddha had specifically gone to White Tiger Ridge to enlighten a skeleton, all so that it could serve as one of the eighty-one tribulations when Tang Sanzang arrived.
Originally, in Maitreya Buddha's plan, the White Bone Spirit was to be someone Sun Wukong was determined to strike, while Tang Sanzang, being a mortal without the Fiery Eyes of Truth, would be unable to discern the spirit's identity and would repeatedly block Sun Wukong from attacking.
This would ultimately lead to a rift between Sun Wukong and Tang Sanzang, thereby triggering the next tribulation.
Yet, before his eyes, how had things taken a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree turn?
How had it become Tang Sanzang who was determined to strike, while Sun Wukong was the one hesitating?
This was completely off the rails!
If things continued to develop as they were, how was the script he, Maitreya Buddha, had arranged supposed to proceed?
However, after a few breaths, Maitreya Buddha let it go; after all, the Journey to the West plan for the Western Fomen he had formulated had long since deviated from its original trajectory under the interference of that mastermind behind the scenes.
Now, hadn't a celestial phenomenon appeared at White Tiger Ridge again? In Maitreya Buddha's view, the current situation was undoubtedly the work of that mastermind.
"Damned villain, don't let me catch you. If I do, you'll definitely have no good fruit to eat!"
The scene returns to Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, and their party.
Sun Wukong, looking at the corpse of the White Bone Spirit, was also in a state of confusion.
One must know that ordinary demons, after dying and losing the maintenance of their magic power, would naturally reveal their true forms.
Yet, the White Bone Spirit had been dead for quite a while, and the corpse still maintained the appearance of an ordinary mortal.
Even though Sun Wukong was incomparably intelligent, looking at this scene, he scratched his scalp and still couldn't figure out why:
"This isn't right, Master. The demon has already been beaten to death, so why hasn't she revealed her true form?"
"Could it be that we really wronged a good person, Master!?"
Hearing this, Tang Sanzang's heart was not as firm as before, but upon thinking of the questions he had asked the White Bone Spirit earlier.
Tang Sanzang once again became convinced that he was not wrong; the woman before them was undoubtedly a demon in disguise.
As for why the demon hadn't returned to her original form even after death, Tang Sanzang was unclear about the reason.
Marshal Tianpeng and General Juan Lian had also arrived at Tang Sanzang's side, and they asked cautiously:
"Master, could it be that we really wronged a good person?"
"To tell the truth, Old Pig (Old Sha) really didn't feel that this female benefactor looked like a demon in any way!"
Tang Sanzang rolled his eyes at Marshal Tianpeng and General Juan Lian, and said with some anger:
"If you two had even a shred of brains, you wouldn't be completely brainless!"
"On this White Tiger Mountain, we have had Sun Wukong clearing the way, and even then, we have encountered more than a dozen wolves, tigers, and leopards, and in between, there were giant pythons and snakes..."
