Chapter 2001: The So-Called River God
Fahai stood at the entrance, looking at the two massive vermilion-lacquered doors, then reached up to pull the copper door knocker and knocked twice.
Soon, a servant opened the door.
Fahai repeated the same words he had said before.
This servant appeared to be a reasonable person; he immediately went back to report to his master, then ran back to the entrance, opened the two large doors, and said with a smile, "Everyone, please come in."
Upon hearing this, Fahai and his companions all wore smiles on their faces.
Sun Wukong lifted his right foot and stepped over the threshold; at this moment, the snow outside the door was already a foot deep.
Arriving in the courtyard of this wealthy household, they saw that the space inside was extremely vast. The courtyard featured a simple and elegant design, with carved beams, painted pillars, lotus ponds, and rockeries.
This household was likely the wealthiest in the entire village.
The head of the household was a man over sixty years old with a kind face and a beard, while his wife, who looked very virtuous, stood at the entrance of the main hall to welcome Fahai and the others.
"Everyone, coming from afar is truly not easy. It is freezing cold tonight, and a heavy snow has suddenly fallen. I have had my servants light a fire in the living room and prepared hot vegetarian meals; please do not mind the humble hospitality."
The man cupped his hands in a salute and spoke with great courtesy.
"Not at all, it is we who are intruding."
Fahai smiled, held one palm upright before his lips, bowed his head in a Buddhist salute, and spoke.
Subsequently, the group followed the host and his wife into the living room, where they saw an Eight Immortals table set with steaming vegetarian food.
Beneath the table, a basin of charcoal fire was burning.
"Let us heal our injuries first."
Fahai swept his gaze toward Marshal Tianpeng and General Juan Lian and spoke.
The others all nodded.
Afterward, everyone entered the living room. Marshal Tianpeng and General Juan Lian each found a spot, sat cross-legged on the floor, and then Sun Wukong and Fahai used their Qi to heal the two of them respectively.
While they were healing, the master of the house sat to one side of the living room, watching quietly.
It was not hard to see that their eyes were filled with confusion.
Fahai thought about explaining things to them later, while he himself also had many questions he wanted to ask them.
After about a quarter of an hour, the injuries on Marshal Tianpeng and General Juan Lian were fully treated.
Before Fahai could speak, the man actually asked first, "Everyone, you must have come from across the Tongtian River, right? Looking at the injuries of these two masters, could it be that you offended the River God?"
Fahai looked at him and said, "The River God you speak of, could it be that King Linggan?"
The man's expression shifted slightly, then he nodded and said, "Yes."
"How utterly ridiculous! A demon, and you actually call him the River God!"
Sun Wukong appeared very angry and spoke.
"This little master, you must not say such things. Be careful lest the River God finds out. This River God has great abilities; the peace and prosperity of our Chen Family Village all depend on the River God's protection!"
Seeing Sun Wukong speak this way, the woman hurriedly said with some panic.
Sun Wukong sneered and did not argue with her.
On this side, Marshal Tianpeng's injuries were already healed. Seeing the table full of sumptuous food, he had long been drooling; he sat directly at the table and began to feast heartily. ===== CHAPTER 2003 =====
