Chapter 143: Bai Yu, die!

~7 min read 1,334 words

A group of twelve flew at low altitude, moving extremely fast yet leaking no aura, as if avoiding something.

They were Dragon clan people, led by Bai Yu, heading for the Nan Fang Continent; now unlike before, the three clans are in chaotic war, and casually passing through could easily bring lethal disaster.

They carried a large amount of military supplies to reward the frontline water tribe warriors, but they did not know that a pair of eyes far up in the nine heavens stared fixedly at their troupe.

"A Da Luo Golden Immortal leads the team, yet moves secretly; meeting me, you can only count yourselves as having bad luck."

"But heaven and earth also treat me well; delivering merit to my door is enough to exchange for a spiritual treasure."

In the high sky, a great Peng began to swoop down, charging at Bai Yu and the others; by the time they noticed, the cold light on the Peng's talons was already visible to the naked eye.

"Fall back!"

Bai Yu's eyes nearly split, yet he saw a clansman's protective spiritual light easily torn apart, the giant claw crushing his tendons and bones, and he was hauled up into the high sky.

That person, midway, could no longer maintain human form, turning into a silver-white giant dragon; his scales shattered, and countless drops of dragon blood fell onto the earth.

Bai Yu wanted to rescue, but he could not catch up to the Peng's extreme speed; he could only watch helplessly as the Peng carried the wounded clansman away into the distance.

After the Peng flung the others aside, it then threw the giant dragon down, which landed on a high ridge.

That Dragon clansman still had a breath left, but a heavily injured Taiyi could not resist a Peng of the Da Luo realm.

The Peng probed with its sharp beak and talons, directly tearing off the head, then continuously pecking at the break.

From time to time it sighed, "Not bad for a Dragon clan—truly tough muscles, and the dragon liver is delicious beyond compare."

Yet unknown to it, as it pecked, the calamitous qi entered through its mouth and nose, continuously flowing into its body.

In a mountain valley.

Bai Yu's grief and indignation could not be increased; his eyes turned blood‑red, but he knew the most important thing now was to shake off the Peng's pursuit, otherwise trouble would cling to them.

"Everyone, from now on we no longer conceal our movements; whoever blocks us, kill!"

Everyone understood the predicament; there was no time left to mourn or avenge the clansmen; the top priority now was to shake off the Peng.

Bai Yu seemed to think of something, handing all the military supplies to one person and saying:

"From now on, you take these supplies and travel by water; even without using divine power, just drifting with the current you must conceal your movements."

"During this time we will do our utmost to attract the Peng's attention, buying you time."

Bai Yu knew that even if they went all out, they would most likely still fail to escape the Peng's pursuit.

After all, the opponent's cultivation is not inferior to his, possibly even stronger, and the Peng itself is one of the representatives of extreme speed in the world; trying to shake it off is extremely difficult.

Only by splitting forces into two routes could they most likely get the news out of here and ensure the military supplies would not fall into foreign hands.

"Lord Bai Yu!"

With tears hidden in his eyes, the person holding the military supplies also understood Bai Yu's intention; this was entrusting all hope of survival to his hands.

"I, Bai Lie, will surely deliver the military supplies, inform Lord Qiu Niu of the situation here, and hope you can hold on a little longer until reinforcements arrive!"

Everyone watched this scene without saying much; although Bai Yu had given his hope of survival to another, they still wished Bai Lie could live on.

As for waiting for reinforcements, they did not hold much hope, after all they were merely Taiyi; Bai Yu, as a Da Luo Golden Immortal, might have a chance, but they did not.

"Time waits for no one; you may go now."

After Bai Lie left, Bai Yu then said to the others:

"From now on, whenever we encounter any avian tribe settlement, we kill them; anyone who blocks us is the same!"

"Yes!"

Everyone replied in unison.

"Our journey this time most likely has no return; you need not worry, for our grudge will be known to Lord Ya Zi, who will avenge us."

"The only remaining order is this: let us go and cause a great uproar."

After Bai Yu finished speaking, his heart suddenly lightened; he knew that none of them, including himself, had any chance of survival.

They were now in the Phoenix clan's territory on the Eastern Continent, far from the Dragon clan's lands; given the circumstances, it was hopeless!

"We obey your command!"

Immediately the people turned into streams of light, revealed their true forms, and began to rampage wildly through the Phoenix clan's territory.

Causing heavy casualties among the surrounding avian tribes, until a Peng's silhouette reappeared in the sky.

This time, Bai Yu reacted promptly while on guard, using his divine abilities to protect the clansmen and coordinating with everyone's spiritual treasures to keep attacking, barely managing to repel the Peng.

Unfortunately, what awaited them was not victory, but the Peng still circling endlessly in the sky.

Bai Yu tried to drive it away, but the Peng would not engage; it merely followed behind the troupe, occasionally swooping in for a surprise attack.

Over the myriad years, Bai Yu's troupe dwindled in number while the enemy frenziedly surrounded them.

At the start, relying on the clansmen who were at least Taiyi Golden Immortals, they could maneuver through the crowd.

Unfortunately, the Peng in the sky was so disgusting that later they were mostly doing useless work, and sometimes they were even forced into traps.

Now, from the original twelve‑person team, only Bai Yu remains, and he is seriously wounded, able only to hide in a cave to recuperate.

Bai Yu slowly opened his eyes and sighed:

"They have already probed the surroundings; it seems today is my time to die, and I do not know whether Bai Lie has escaped—it's just a pity I cannot kill that Peng to avenge my brothers."

Having said that, he rose and walked slowly toward the cave entrance; in the process Bai Yu suddenly recalled when he had escorted the water vapor, how vigorous and spirited he had been when he first left his hermitage.

Sunlight shone on Bai Yu's face; he showed a faint smile that gradually faded, transforming into a white dragon that flew toward the encircling enemies.

Countless dragon flames spewed out, incinerating every living thing seeking him; another shadow appeared in the sky, and a crying sound echoed through heaven and earth.

Bai Yu immediately shot up into the sky, charging at the Peng; the wounds and broken scales covering his body revealed the cruelty of the battle.

"As a Da Luo Golden Immortal, you ought to taste better than your clansmen."

The Peng's eyes were sharp, constantly sizing up Bai Yu, as if pondering where to bite first.

"I'm afraid you don't have the fate for that!"

Bai Yu lunged at the Peng, but it easily dodged; instead, its claws left fresh wounds on him.

After myriad years of battle, constant fleeing had exhausted Bai Yu's spirit; the cracks visible on his dragon pearl showed he was at the end of his tether.

But no one stopped, they kept clashing, until the Great Peng seized Bai Yu's body, its sharp talons piercing the dragon's body.

The painful dragon's roar echoed through the heavens, then ceased as the Great Peng's claws gradually exerted force.

Bai Yu, die!
