Chapter 156

~7 min read 1,374 words

On the battlefield of the dragon and qilin clans, Yazi fought, bathed in blood.

The war had reached a white-hot stage, countless turbid flows spread wildly across the land, and the dragon clan's water-control technique often gave them a huge advantage early on.

Unfortunately, this situation changed ten thousand years ago; under the pressure of war, the qilin clan likewise developed a similar technique.

Although not as flexible and versatile as the dragon clan's water technique, they could manipulate earth and stone, likewise possessing many advantages the dragon clan lacked.

This is also why Yazi fell into a bitter fight; despite insufficient forces, being able to withstand the qilin clan's enormous pressure without collapsing already shows his astonishing combat power.

The imitation Yinglong Xuantian Sword he held in his mouth has now become nicked and damaged.

The Responding Dragon Mysterious Heaven Sword is the base name; although there are imitations, we will list this sword's name.

Yazi leapt up, dodging the incoming treasure pearl, and at the same time turned his body, using the sword in his mouth to knock the pearl away.

Under this blow, the treasure pearl turned into a stream of light and flew toward Tian Ji, and the sword blade consequently acquired a crack.

"Yazi, today you are destined to die here! I will behead you to offer to the spirit of my fourth brother in heaven."

The newcomer wore an earth-yellow long robe, was tall and sturdy, had a solemn visage, disheveled hair, and stood barefoot in the sky.

Eastern Battlefield.

Ferocious Beast Great Calamity.

We will check for other named entities; since Responding Dragon appears multiple times, we will translate it as 'Responding Dragon'. Should we list it as a named entity? As a mythical dragon, it could be considered a named being. Per the rule, named beasts/items should be translated by meaning, so we will list 'Responding Dragon' as a named beast.

A person beside Tu Qilin spoke up.

He wore a golden robe, his head adorned with a tall crown inset with pearls, exceedingly noble.

The newcomer was the second son of the first Qilin, Jin Qilin.

While speaking, Jin Qilin had one hand behind his back and the other hand with fingers spread; the treasure bead that Ya Nie had knocked away appeared in his hand.

"You wretched cur, daring to bark wildly before me, not fearing the wind might snap your tongue."

The fresh blood staining Ya Nie's body, combined with his somewhat mad expression, brought a fierce, murderous aura that rushed over.

"Previously, when I attacked the Qilin tribe's main camp, you were not like this; today you actually have the courage to face me."

Upon hearing this, the two grew somewhat annoyed; it turned out Ya Nie had previously led troops in a sneak attack, and no one knew how he had bypassed layer after layer of defenses, yet he actually succeeded.

Caught off guard, the Qilin tribe suffered heavy losses, which also served as the spark for today's battle.

"All that's left is a stubborn mouth!"

Having said that, Jin Qilin said no more; the treasure bead in his hand again turned into a stream of light, smashing toward Ya Nie.

These streams of light turned into countless swords, gathering and dispersing at will; a small portion rushed at Ya Nie, while the majority circled around, waiting to strike.

Tu Qilin, meanwhile, reached out, making a grasping motion in the air; several nearby mountains moved with it, sweeping toward Ya Nie.

Ya Nie swung the treasure sword in his mouth, producing a huge sword aura that shattered the incoming spiritual light.

The sword aura undiminished flew far away, breaking through the several mountains under Tu Qilin's control and, amidst the encirclement, blasting a gap.

As he leapt out through the gap, Ya Nie did not forget to look back, using his divine abilities to resist the incoming spiritual light that ambushed him.

When Ya Nie relaxed slightly, the earth suddenly softened, sucking his limbs into it and firmly locking them.

Ya Nie struggled desperately, but countless streams of spiritual light were already assaulting him.

These streams of light converged in the air, re-forming into treasure beads that shot straight at Ya Nie's skull. At the critical moment, Ya Nie spat out the treasure sword from his mouth, colliding with the bead; taking advantage of the time bought by the explosion, he bore the blast's aftershock and broke free.

Instinctively, Ya Nie tried to recall his weapon, but received no response; looking back, he saw only a few shards of the treasure sword left on the ground.

This sudden development caught all three off guard; before Jin and Tu could react, Ya Nie leapt first toward the distance.

Unable to catch him, Jin Qilin and Tu Qilin could only give up.

"Although this battle failed to slay Ya Nie, shattering his treasure sword counts as a gain."

Tu Qilin consoled himself, and Jin Qilin beside him also largely agreed.

This treasure sword, now on the battlefield, bears a fearsome reputation; when combined with Ya Nie, its erupting power even surpasses that of ordinary superior innate spiritual treasures.

"Just Ya Nie wielding a counterfeit Yinglong Xuantian Sword has such strength; who knows how mighty the legendary Yinglong truly is."

Jin Qilin sighed somewhat, after all they had grown up hearing the undefeated legend of Yinglong.

"All we can say is that the dragon clan destroyed their own walls; we have no idea what they were thinking."

"If it were my clan, even if Yinglong caused a heaven‑sized calamity, he would not end up sealed by his own kind."

Tu Qilin also felt some regret, after all that was Yinglong.

Before the Great Calamity of the Ferocious Beasts, during the period when the three tribes were on the friendliest terms, the legend of Yinglong's invincibility had already been continuously written.

"Alright, stop dwelling on this; Yinglong's absence is also a blessing for us, for heaven does not protect the dragon clan, our present gains are enough—sound the recall, withdraw the troops."

Having said that, Tu Qilin turned and vanished between heaven and earth.

Jin Qilin beside him merely frowned, said nothing more, turned and rushed toward the battlefield.

Although this battle appeared to give them overwhelming advantage, it was only because they had let Ya Nie fight after previously draining him once.

Even so, they gained little; if both sides had been at their peak, the outcome might have been rewritten.

As the news spread, both sides began to withdraw in an orderly fashion; this battle can be considered temporarily ended, and for the next myriad years it is unlikely there will be another conflict of such scale.

When everyone had mostly withdrawn, a figure appeared on the battlefield just vacated—the one was Ya Nie.

His divine sense swept over, but he found that the larger fragments had already disappeared from the spot; presumably they had been taken as spoils by Jin Qilin and Tu Qilin.

Picking up the tiny fragments scattered on the ground, Ya Nie gazed at the shattered treasure sword in his hand, his feelings a tumultuous mix.

After a moment, Ya Nie murmured to himself:

"If my uncle were still here, how could our dragon clan have fallen to such a state! I only blame myself for my inadequate skill, failing to live up to his teachings."

"For the grudge of the broken sword, I, Ya Nie, vow to make Jin and Tu pay with blood!"

Having said that, his form vanished from the spot; he intended to return to the East Sea to seek a weapon sturdy enough to support his use.

What Ya Nie did not expect was that, on this return, the Ancestral Dragon would grant him a weapon he had never imagined.

Moreover, this weapon would accompany him, lasting until the end of the Great Calamity.

The Eastern Front's lull was merely the start of two other battlefields, and the situation continued to escalate, its brutality far surpassing anyone's imagination.

So tragic that even the Three Clans' Primordial Origin cannot stay peaceful; they can only come down to participate.
