【1】 278. Chapter 278 Hongjun finally unites with the Dao, all sides consider.
278. Chapter 278: Hongjun finally unites with the Dao, all sides consider.
Alternatively we could translate as "278. Chapter 278 Hongjun finally unites with the Dao, all sides consider." We'll do that.
Qihe and all the gods were waiting; heaven and earth grew ever clearer, and the time for Hongjun to unite with the Dao was drawing near.
Translation: "Qihe and all the gods were waiting, heaven and earth grew ever clearer, and the time for Hongjun's union with the Dao drew nearer."
Even two yuanhui ago, Qihe had expected Hongjun to have begun already, but only now did he see the purple aura rising to the heavens at the horizon.
"The purple haze filling the sky has persisted for over eleven thousand years, and no one knows when the Dao Ancestor Hongjun will finally consent to unite with the Dao."
Translation: "Even two yuanhui ago, Qihe had thought Hongjun should have begun by now, but only now did the horizon show purple qi shooting up to the sky."
Di Jun's voice carried a hint of impatience; the West, under the Heavenly Court's rule, had been the poorest region since the great calamity.
But now, with the addition of the Witch Clan and the Heavenly Court, their strength has surged unexpectedly.
Translation: "«The scene of purple qi filling the skies has lasted over eleven thousand years; I do not know when the Dao Ancestor Hongjun will finally consent to unite with the Dao. »"
We need to keep quotes. We'll use English quotation marks.
The prolonged war indeed limited both sides' development, yet it also forged many elites through combat.
Translation: "Di Jun's voice held a hint of impatience; the West under the Heavenly Court's rule had, since the great calamity, been the poorest region."
Moreover, during the prolonged war, both sides intentionally limited the scope of conflict, and the presence of the two top powers greatly enriched the foundation of the Western continent.
But now, with the Witch Clan and Heavenly Court joining, their strength has actually surged.
Translation: "But now, with the addition of the Wu Clan and the Heavenly Court, their strength has surged instead."
The increase in top-tier combat power on both sides forced the Heavenly Court to consider the threat posed by the other side.
Translation: "The prolonged war indeed limited both sides' development, yet likewise it forged many elites in the midst of conflict."
However, limited by Hongjun not yet having united with the Dao, it was like a sword hanging over the Heavenly Court's head, making it unwilling to act directly.
Translation: "Moreover, under the prolonged war, both sides deliberately limited the scope of fighting; the existence of the two top powers also greatly enriched the foundation of Xifang Dalu."
However, since signs of the Dao's union appeared ten thousand years ago, the Eastern Duke also realized the situation was changing, and thus became more restrained.
Translation: "The increase of the two sides' top combat power forced the Heavenly Court to consider the threat posed by the other side."
The Heavenly Court also grew quiet, steadily accumulating strength while drafting elites from all tribes of the wilderness to replenish its heavenly troops.
Translation: "Only because Hongjun had not yet united with the Dao, it was like a sharp sword hanging over the Heavenly Court's head, making the Court reluctant to act directly."
For a time, the wilderness fell into an eerie tranquility, yet every person of renown sensed it was a prelude to impending storms.
Translation: "However, since signs of a Dao union appeared ten thousand years ago, Dong Wanggong also knew the situation was changing, and thus he had become much more law-abiding."
At Eastern Kunlun, the Three Pure Ones constantly monitored the changes in heavenly omens, their hearts filled with a hint of tension.
Translation: "And the Heavenly Court likewise grew quiet, steadily accumulating strength while drafting elites from all the tribes of the Wilderness to replenish its heavenly troops."
Knowing that once the Dao Ancestor unites with the Dao, all the accumulated emotions of the wilderness will erupt instantly, and the Heavenly Court will no longer tolerate the Immortal Court's reckless expansion.
Translation: "For a time, the Wilderness fell into an eerie tranquility. Yet those of renown all sensed in their hearts that this was the calm before the storm."
Moreover, the Witch Clan's laxity also provoked the Heavenly Court's displeasure, after all, driving the Immortal Court into the Western continent was originally intended to let the Witch Clan help drain the Immortal Court's strength.
Translation: "East Kunlun, the Three Pure Ones also constantly monitored the changes in heavenly omens, their hearts filled with a hint of tension."
Now they have instead grown stronger the more they fight—how could the Heavenly Court be pleased? "These are troubled times!"
Translation: "Knowing that once the Dao Ancestor unites with the Dao, the Wilderness's pent-up emotions will instantly erupt, the Heavenly Court will no longer tolerate the Immortal Court's unrestrained expansion."
The Lingbao Daoist sighed, fearing that the wilderness might face an unprecedented upheaval.
Translation: "Moreover, the Wu Clan's slackness also provoked the Heavenly Court's displeasure, after all driving the Immortal Court into Xifang Dalu was originally intended to have the Wu Clan help wear down the Immortal Court's strength."
Meanwhile, Yuanshi replied nonchalantly, "Although the wilderness is chaotic, such transformations are unprecedented in eternity; yet we, the Three Pure Ones, upholding the orthodox path, have nothing to fear."
Translation: "Now they have instead grown stronger the more they fight—how could the Heavenly Court be pleased? «It is a time of many troubles! »"
"You need not worry overly about this; simply discipline your disciples so they do not cause trouble outside Kunlun."
Translation: "The Lingbao Daoist sighed somewhat, fearing the Wilderness would face an unprecedented upheaval."
Having said this, Yuanshi frowned slightly; his third brother had taken on four disciples, all lively in nature, which added some vitality to Eastern Kunlun, though it inevitably disturbed the tranquility a bit.
Translation: "Yuanshi beside him, however, was unconcerned, saying: «Though the Wilderness is chaotic, upheavals unheard of in ages have occurred; we Three Pure Ones, upholding the Proper Dao, how could we fear it? »"
It wasn't that he held any prejudice against them; he simply felt that Lingbao accepted disciples too indiscriminately, taking in anyone regardless of background or character, which was rather excessive.
Translation: "«You need not worry overly about this; simply restrain your disciples so they do not cause trouble outside Kunlun. »"
Fortunately, there are only four of them now, and aside from the eldest disciple's unsavory appearance, which Yuanshi dislikes, they are all somewhat versed in etiquette and otherwise acceptable.
Translation: "Having said that, Yuanshi frowned slightly; his third brother had taken on four disciples, all lively in nature, which added a bit of vigor to East Kunlun, yet inevitably disturbed its tranquility."
This is not to say that the Lingbao Daoist's eldest disciple is at fault; Duo Bao's ugly appearance merely fails to meet the Original Daoist's aesthetic, making him seem to have lost some immortal aura.
Translation: "It was not that he despised them; he merely felt the Lingbao school admitted people too indiscriminately, accepting all regardless of background or character, which was somewhat wanton."
The Lingbao Daoist gave it little thought, merely responding:
Translation: "Fortunately, there are only four of them now, and aside from the eldest disciple whose appearance is unpleasant, making Yuanshi dislike him, the rest are at least passable in etiquette."
"What the elder brother says is naturally reasonable; my four disciples understand priorities—how could they go out to play at a time like this?"
Translation: "This is not to say that the Lingbao Daoist's eldest disciple is at fault; Duobao's ugly appearance simply fails to meet the Primitive Daoist's aesthetic, making him seem to have lost some immortal aura."
The Dao De Daoist also nodded and said:
Translation: "The Lingbao Daoist gave it no further thought, merely replying:"
"After the teacher unites with the Dao, I fear the Heavenly Court will no longer tolerate the Immortal Court's continued activity and will likely resort to thunderous measures."
Translation: "«What the elder brother says is naturally reasonable. My four disciples are people who know their priorities; how could they go out to play at a time like this? »"
"As for the Witch Clan, if they can assess the situation, they might gain a brief respite."
Translation: "The Daode Daoist also nodded and said:"
"However, I observe that most of the Twelve Ancestor Witches are not law-abiding sorts, especially Dijiang and Zhurong, who are likely to cause turmoil,
Translation: "«After the teacher unites with the Dao, I fear the Heavenly Court will no longer tolerate the Immortal Court's continued activity, and will likely resort to thunderous measures. »"
As for the Witch Clan, if they can read the times, they might get a temporary breather.
Translation: "«As for the Wu Clan, if they can gauge the situation, they may perhaps gain a brief respite. »"
However, I see that most of the twelve ancestral witches are not peaceful sorts, especially Dijiang and Zhurong and the like, likely to stir up trouble; the Heavenly Court may not find peace either.
Translation: "«However, I observe that among the Twelve Wu Ancestors, most are not law-abiding types, especially Di Jiang and Zhurong, who are likely to cause turmoil, and the Heavenly Court may then find no peace. »"
Yuanshi, however, disagrees, arguing: 'The Witch Clan does not cultivate the Great Dao, has no primordial spirits, and are all impatient; despite their strength, how could they escape the Heavenly Court's methods?'
Translation: "Yuanshi, however, held the opposite view, rebutting: «The Wu Clan does not cultivate the Great Dao, lacks primordial spirits, and are all impatient; though strong, how could they escape the Heavenly Court's methods? »"
If they avoid conflict, that's fine; but if they fight, given their nature and attitude toward all wilderness beings, the Heavenly Court will likely rally all races to crush them.
Translation: "«If they do not contend, that would be fine; but if they do, given their nature and attitude toward the Wilderness's beings, I fear the Heavenly Court will muster the strength of all tribes and slay them together. »"
Based on my knowledge of the Heavenly Court, the Witch Clan will likely keep causing chaos and thus hardly escape doom.
Translation: "«Based on my understanding of the Heavenly Court, the Wu Clan will thereafter breed chaos from chaos and likely cannot escape annihilation. »"
Now it's different; opposing the Heavenly Court, which has united heaven, earth, and man, with just one's own strength, what chance of victory is there?
Translation: "«Now it is unlike before; to oppose the Heavenly Court that has united the power of the Wilderness's heaven, earth, and humanity with one's own strength—what chance of victory remains? »"
Unless they have some Primordial method to turn things around, otherwise, with the Heavenly Court's power, the Witch Clan's resistance is hopeless.
Translation: "«Unless they possess some Grand Unity means to turn the tide, otherwise, with the Heavenly Court's power, the Wu Clan's resistance is hopeless. »"
Hearing this, the Moral Daoist just sighed, while the Numinous Treasure Daoist beside him largely agreed but remained silent.
Translation: "The Daode Daoist merely sighed upon hearing this, while the Lingbao Daoist beside him largely agreed, though he did not speak."
Seeing the signs of impending chaos in the wilderness, the three simply ordered the mountain gates closed and guests barred, seeking to withdraw from the world and concentrate on cultivation.
Translation: "Faced with the omens of a chaotic age in the Wilderness, the three merely issued orders to close the mountain gates, bar guests, seeking to withdraw from the world and concentrate on cultivation."
In West Kunlun, Gouhui also sighs repeatedly; since she entered the Primordial Dao, she knows the Heavenly Court's attitude toward her will surely change.
Translation: "West Kunlun, Gouhui also sighed long and short; since she entered the Grand Unity Dao, she knew the Heavenly Court's attitude toward her would surely change."
As the leading female immortal of the world, even though she has no ambition and wholeheartedly cultivates, as long as that title exists, the Heavenly Court will always be wary of her.
Translation: "As the foremost female immortal of the world, even though she harbors no ambition and wholeheartedly cultivates, as long as that title exists for a day, the Heavenly Court will always be on guard against her."
If she does not enter the Primordial Dao, even a Luo Heavenly Revered God would not draw the Heavenly Court's attention; merely as a Dao seeker, how could she abandon her practice over a minor setback?
Translation: "Not entering the Grand Unity Dao would be fine; even a Luo Tianzun deity cannot yet attract the Heavenly Court's notice, yet as a seeker of the Dao, how could one abandon eating because of choking?"
But we do not know what attitude the Heavenly Court will later take toward her, nor how she can resolve this calamity.
Translation: "But I do not know what attitude the Heavenly Court will later hold toward her, nor how she should resolve this calamity."
The Dao Ancestor's union with the Dao is imminent; the time left for her is clearly short, and Gouhui can only lament: 'The Dao Ancestor has truly brought suffering upon me!'
Translation: "The Dao Ancestor's union with the Dao is imminent, leaving her evidently little time; Gouhui could only lament: «The Dao Ancestor truly brings suffering upon me! »"
Luwu arrived nearby, happened to hear Gouhui's words, and couldn't help but laugh: 'Your Excellency worries too much; this is easily resolved. Now, with your Excellency's person, the vortex of the great situation in the wilderness cannot be escaped.'
Translation: "Luwu came up from beside, happened to hear Gouhui's words, and laughed: «Your Excellency worries too much; this is easily resolved. Now that you are in your Exalted Person's body, the vortex of the Wilderness's situation cannot be escaped. »"
Rather than blaming heaven and others, it would be better to pick a side to join; then this predicament can be resolved.
Translation: "«Rather than blaming heaven and man, it would be better to choose a side to join; this predicament can then be solved. »"
Gouhui, upon hearing this, could not help but respond with shame and anger:
Translation: "Gouhui heard this and, unable to contain her shame and anger, said:"
If it were that simple, why would I be so troubled? The Heavenly Court and the Immortal Court are at odds, and the Witch Clan adds another variable; how can you expect me to choose?
Translation: "«If it were really that simple, why would I agonize so? The Heavenly Court and the Immortal Court are at odds, with the Wu Clan added as a variable—how could you have me choose? »"
Luwu said indifferently: 'Your Excellency perhaps thinks too highly of yourself; you need not choose in advance; when the time comes, you only need to see who wins and join them.'
Translation: "Luwu replied dismissively: «Your Excellency overestimates yourself; you need not pick a side beforehand—when the time comes, just see who wins and join them. »"
Given your Excellency's exalted status in the Primordial Dao and lack of worldly ambition, if you were willing to be a vassal, would they really dare to coerce you?
Translation: "«With your Exalted Person's stature in the Grand Unity Dao and no interest in worldly affairs, if you were willing to be a vassal, would they really dare to coerce you? »"
As long as the situation between the two sides does not reach a stalemate, your Excellency need not worry; even if you choose afterward, you would lose the chance to refuse.
Translation: "«As long as the two sides' situation does not reach a stalemate, Your Exalted Person can be worry‑free; even if the choice is made afterward, Your Exalted Person would lose the chance to refuse. »"
We hope your Excellency will consider these matters; if we followers have further advice, in the end it still comes down to how your Excellency chooses.
Translation: "«I hope Your Exalted Person will consider these matters; should we followers have further advice, in the end it still comes down to how Your Exalted Person chooses. »"
Gouhui, helpless, could only wave for Luwu to withdraw, then alone gazed at the ever-spreading purple qi in the sky, continuing to sink into contemplation.
Translation: "Gouhui, helpless, could only wave Luwu away, then gaze alone at the ever‑spreading purple qi in the sky, continuing to sink into thought."
The Sea of Blood, the River of Darkness also ponder; he remains hesitant for now.
Translation: "The Sea of Blood, Minghe also pondered, still hesitating."
It is unknown whether he should go to the Heavenly Court to pursue the orthodox Primordial Dao method, or gather some innately divine beings aspiring to sagehood to forcibly seize the Hongmeng purple qi in order to attain the sage's fruit.
Translation: "Whether to go to the Heavenly Court to seek the method of Proper Dao Grand Unity, or to gather those who aspire to saintly positions among the innate divinities, seize the Hongmeng purple qi by force, and obtain the saint's Dao fruit."
The Dao Ancestor's union with the Dao is imminent; the opportunity he has long awaited is finally about to arrive.
Translation: "The Dao Ancestor's union with the Dao is at hand; the opportunity he has long awaited is finally arriving."
Given the current distribution of the Hongmeng purple qi, those two paths of the Heavenly Court are the most perilous; he dare not even entertain the thought.
Translation: "Given the current distribution of the Hongmeng purple qi, the two passages of the Heavenly Court are the most perilous; he would not dare to entertain the thought of attacking them."
The Three Pure Ones are again huddling together for warmth in East Kunlun, not venturing into the wilderness, making it hard to find opportunities.
Translation: "The Three Pure Ones again huddled together in East Kunlun for warmth, not venturing into the Wilderness, making it hard to find an opportunity."
At present, within the wilderness, the most active and selectable targets are only the two, Jieyin and Zhunti; whereas the target chosen by the River of Darkness is outside the Dao Ancestor's disciples, though having entered the Mystic Gate, yet not being a Zhunti disciple of the Mystic Gate.
Translation: "Now, among the active forces in the Wilderness, the only viable targets left are Jieyin and Zhunti; Minghe's chosen target, however, lies outside the Dao Ancestor's disciples—though having entered the Profound Gate, he is not a disciple of Zhunti."
Of course, this is not solely the River of Darkness's goal; people with aspirations throughout the world mostly target him.
Translation: "Of course, this is not solely Minghe's goal; most people with aspirations in the world also aim for him."
Jieyin and Zhunti also know their own situation, but they never imagined that, in contacting the River of Darkness's people, there would also be someone they had never thought of.
Translation: "Jieyin and Zhunti also know their situation, yet they never imagined that, besides those contacting Minghe, there is another person they never thought of."
Even Minghe himself never imagined that the Eastern King Duke, who got along extremely well with Jieyin and Zhunti, would actually be the first to contact him.
How is Dong Wanggong planning? Minghe doesn't know, but Minghe himself has already decided to try first.
If one can seize the Primordial Purple Qi, then they will return to the Sea of Blood and enter seclusion; if they do not become a Saint, they will never emerge.
If they cannot seize it, then they will join the Heavenly Court to seek the method of the Divine Dao and Primordial Unity.
As for the Three Corpses Method, Minghe has always harbored some doubts in his heart and is unwilling to discard his innate divine saint identity.
This is also the idea of most innate divine saints who still cultivate the Divine Dao today.
Accustomed to taking step by step, solidifying the foundation, having reached their current realm, they naturally are unwilling to try the so-called shortcut.
Unless someone proves the Dao and attains Primordial Unity through this method, or achieves the status of a Heavenly Dao Saint, otherwise, without external pressure, they will never lightly attempt it.
After all, it's only a bit slower; they are not lacking in time.
Of course, this is a more pleasant-sounding explanation; the real reason is that there are not so many high-grade and top-grade innate spiritual treasures available for them to entrust the Three Corpses.
But who would have thought that after this explanation spread, it actually attracted some innate divine saints who met the conditions, who continued to painstakingly accumulate their life cultivation, without practicing the Three Corpses Method.
I don't even know if this counts as a joke of the primordial wilderness.
In Xifang Dalu, aside from Hou Tu who remains stationed in the Heavenly Court, the remaining Ancestral Witches have all gathered; now, as the Dao Ancestor's union with the Dao is imminent, the atmosphere of the primordial wilderness grows even more solemn.
The Heavenly Court's continual gathering of strength also forces the Wu Clan to stay vigilant, especially Di Jiang and Zhu Jiuyin, these two Ancestral Witches who have long advocated opposition.
"Brothers and sisters, today I have summoned you merely to inquire: how should we respond to the possible actions of the Heavenly Court ahead, and what will the Wu Clan's reaction be?"
"You have all previously gone to the Heavenly Realm and know how the Heavenly Court now regards us."
"The earlier move of nurturing bandits for self-preservation has long provoked the Heavenly Court's displeasure. Now, as the Dao Ancestor's union with the Dao is imminent, the Heavenly Court likely has no patience left."
Upon Di Jiang's words, all the Ancestral Witches fell into silence; the conflict with the Celestial Court cooled, which was considered a mutual tacit understanding among the Ancestral Witches, but now that the situation has changed, they naturally must consider it.
The silent atmosphere provoked Zhurong's dissatisfaction, and he spoke bluntly: "Back then everyone agreed on this matter; at least no one voiced opposition. Now you act like this—why?"
"Moreover, although the Heavenly Court's might is great, our Wu Clan is not something they can simply manipulate."
"In the past, beheading a Quasi-Saint of the Celestial Court was already enough to show the Wu Clan's attitude to the Heavenly Court."
Zhu Jiuyin, seeing that Zhurong still did not understand the reason for convening this matter, could not help but shout: "You scoundrel, what tricks are you still playing? This is no longer merely about the Celestial Court and the Wu Clan's nurturing bandits for self-preservation."
"With the Dao Ancestor's union with the Dao imminent, the situation of the primordial wilderness will surely undergo a great change. The Heavenly Court's gathering of power at this time makes its ambition blatantly obvious."
"Now it's no longer about investigating whether everyone agreed back then; without the Celestial Court drawing attention away from us, do you still want to be as carefree as before?"
Zhurong heard this, stunned, and looked at Zhu Jiuyin with eyes full of surprise:
"If not, then not—after all these years, haven't you reaped enough benefits yet? You couldn't possibly really be thinking of contending with the Heavenly Court for control of this primordial land, could you?"
"Don't forget, our original goal was merely to reap a profit; now I see that the ideas of the eldest and second brothers seem to have changed."
Di Jiang furrowed his brows, Zhu Jiuyin wore a grim face, and the other eight Ancestral Witches remained silent, not speaking.
Zhurong watched this scene, suddenly realized something, and said with eyes full of disbelief:
"You wouldn't really go mad enough to want to pit your clan against the myriad tribes of the primordial wilderness, would you?"
At the same time, his pupils constricted slightly, his gaze focused, and he firmly stared at the faces of all the Ancestral Witches.
His gaze began with Di Jiang, swept over each one in turn, and finally landed on Gong Gong's face.
By this point, Zhurong also knew the answer of these brothers and sisters of his.
Zhurong knew of the ambitions of Di Jiang and Zhu Jiuyin, but he never imagined that the eldest and second brothers had at some point rallied so many brothers and sisters to their side, and that he had noticed nothing of it.
Di Jiang's gaze settled on Zhurong, and after the remaining Ancestral Witches likewise did so for a long time, Di Jiang spoke:
"I and the rest of my brothers and sisters have this plan: our Wu Clan shall not be inferior to the myriad tribes of the primordial wilderness."
"As offspring of the Father God, we ought to enjoy this land that the Father God opened up."
"Fifth Younger Brother, now that you know our decision, it's up to you how to choose."
In response, Zhurong remained silent for a long time before slowly saying: "Eldest Brother, I am naturally willing to share weal and woe with the Wu Clan, but the Heavenly Court now is not something we can defeat merely by joining forces with the Celestial Court. What further plans do you have?"
"Don't tell me it's just hot-blooded courage. If that's the case, I will absolutely not stand by while you drive the Wu Clan into a pit of fire."
"You must know, those tribespeople also walked out from the Father God's blood. They are not only creations of our blood, but also offspring of the Father God, and thus our brothers and sisters."
Di Jiang saw that Zhurong had agreed, and without further thought, immediately burst out laughing:
"That's natural; as long as we brothers and sisters work together in unity, where in the world could we not go?"
"My plan is simple: let the Celestial Court live or die, it has nothing to do with the Wu Clan; we only need to seize this opportunity to go into Mount Buzhou, retrieve the Father God's legacy, and bring back the Pangu Hall and Hou Tu's younger sister to the West."
"Then, with us brothers and sisters united, the great tasks of the world will be ours to roam freely!"
Zhu Jiuyin and the others were just about to join in and celebrate together when suddenly they heard nine peals of thunder ringing from the horizon.
Heaven and earth suddenly changed; countless spiritual opportunities surged like boiling, purple qi flowed throughout the sky, emitting a lustrous glow.
Countless dao sounds rang out; the spiritual opportunities transformed into a chorus of colorful phoenixes, golden dragons danced, accompanied by spiritual rain.
The ground sprouted lingzhi herbs; the horizon displayed myriad rosy hues; auspicious signs unmistakably appeared.
Just as everyone was stunned, a voice sounded from the horizon, saying only: "I am the poor Daoist Hongjun."
