309. Chapter 309 Disappointment, Qi's Marriage Fate

Qi looked at the somewhat downcast Pingyi before him, his heart full of myriad words, yet he did not know how to speak; clearly, as the premier being of the Primordial Wasteland, with an innate divine sage's nature, it seemed not manifested in him.

God and Dao are one; as the future Lord of Yunmze Marsh, it's fine if you don't focus on the Great Dao, but why are you still immersed in male-female love?

The Heavenly Court's edict forbidding love between humans and gods exists precisely because human development feeds back qi to the heavens; how can you still see it as a restriction aimed at you?

Where do you get such audacity? People should know themselves; after this, I hope you focus on the Great Dao—everything else is false, only the Great Dao is true.

Pingyi, regarding Qi's advice, seemed not to have heard it at all, merely staying silent and drinking another cup; seeing this, Qi could not help but speak angrily:

If you continue to sink like this, I will no longer bother with you; the grand assembly is about to convene, and I have no mind to keep you company drinking here.

Seeing Qi angry, Pingyi then spoke with a hint of grievance:

Your Excellency, those Primordial Wasteland beings always say they believe in eternal love, yet when I give them eternal love, why do they find it hard to bear?

In the Primordial Wasteland, though I have left stories with many goddesses, I have never acted indecisively; each time I give my all, yet it ends only in tragedy—why is that?

Seeing Pingyi still stuck on the character of emotion, Qi could no longer restrain himself; he slapped Pingyi's head, striking him down from God Sky Heaven.

Fortunately, the force used was not great; after a while, when Pingyi flew back, there was nothing abnormal.

After Qi slightly calmed his mind, he earnestly advised Pingyi: 'Ordinary beings who do not cultivate have lifespans of only a few hundred years; if they do not become immortals, their lifespan is at most tens of thousands of years; without opportunity, sunrise and sunset, cycling endlessly, that is all they see in life.'

Even the seas turning to mulberry fields can change; with such a lifespan, how dare one speak of eternity? Even you and I dare not speak of eternal constancy, let alone humans.

Those whose lifespan is insufficient desire more, distractions arise, and changing orders morning and evening become the norm; how could they harbor a thought of eternal constancy?

You, an innate divine sage, are not limited by lifespan nor afflicted by calamities; time flows, mountains and rivers change hue, we sit and watch, seeing a thousand sails pass.

All whose lifespan is limited lack an eternal, unchanging heart; in youth they still have lofty ambitions, in old age their hair turns white, and regret arises from the heart.

Those formerly called outstanding individuals, in old age inevitably seek endless life, abandoning wives and children, killing to survive; are there few such records in the Heavenly Court?

If even the outstanding act thus, what can the common folk avoid?

Pingyi felt somewhat dissatisfied and could not help but retort:

Among the myriad beings of the primordial wilderness, could it be that there is no one single-minded and unchanging?

Qi glanced at Pingyi, rather speechless, and said:

Such people naturally exist; the innate divine sages are all like this, and seekers of the Dao who wholeheartedly admire the Great Dao are likewise.

One with such perseverance can accomplish all things; if they do not seek the Great Dao but pursue carefree ease, you would have them rely on emotion? Is this not abandoning the root for the branch?

Pingyi had no reply, but Qi did not let him go, continuing: 'A person with determination will not be forsaken by heaven; becoming an immortal and an ancestor is wonderful, yet to apply perseverance to emotions is a grave transgression.'

Moreover, you are a fool, desiring eternal affection; why not pursue those who are inherently eternal, instead of deceiving ordinary folk? Is this not climbing a tree to catch fish?

Those without eternal lifespan lack eternal thoughts; since your birth, you have encountered myriad goddesses numbering over ten thousand, yet you still cannot learn a lesson—what else but a fool?

If you pursue those immortal goddesses, eventually forming a Daoist couple, mutually supporting each other and walking together upon the Great Dao, would that not be wonderful?

After pondering, Pingyi said: 'What I seek is to cast aside everything else, an eternal love, which is favoritism, not walking together upon the Great Dao and mutually supporting each other.'

Qi, hearing this, angrily said:

Rotten wood cannot be carved! Not seeking to walk together, yet seeking decadence—what kind of person is this?

As for other matters, I pay no heed; if you in the future feel moved to violate heavenly laws and fall in love with another, I will not protect you! When heavenly punishment arrives, the law allows no mercy!

Having said that, Qi flicked his sleeve, turned and left; this person is truly a stubborn stone and rotten wood, impossible to carve! Qi had scarcely left the great hall when he encountered the coming Nüwa; seeing Qi's furious expression, Nüwa could not help but ask curiously:

What has provoked such great anger? Is it that Pingyi refuses to heed instruction?

I previously, in the Crimson Heaven, saw Pingyi flying backward and nearly falling at Mount Buzhou; the direction seemed to be here, so I came specially to investigate.

Qi, interrupted by Nüwa, nearly forgot his anger, and said somewhat helplessly:

What are you doing again, watching a joke, seeing my Qi palace?

Nüwa lightly laughed: 'Let us not speak of these for now; I came to see you for an important matter, my earlier words were merely a joke, to let you sober up.'

Only then did Qi calm his mood, and together with Nüwa he turned back to Qi's palace; seeing Pingyi still pacing in the great hall, Qi could not help but shout: 'Why do you linger here? Leave at once, do not obstruct my sight; looking at you just makes me angry!'

Pingyi's eyes held a hint of grievance as he looked toward Nüwa to the side; Nüwa covered her mouth and chuckled, her gaze indicating that Pingyi should leave first.

Pingyi had barely turned when Nüwa's voice sounded in his mind, hearing her say: 'Qi is still angry at the moment; you go ahead and leave obediently, rest assured, once Qi's mood settles later, I will myself persuade him a bit, and certainly will not let him be angry with you.'

Do not blame Qi for this; he regards you as a close brother, yet you act stubbornly—how could he not be angry? It is better to yield first; later he will surely forgive you.

Pingyi was about to nod when he heard Qi angrily shout: 'I am not yet deaf; this sound transmission cannot escape me—why do you still linger here? Get out! When you come to your senses, then speak of forgiveness.'

Pingyi hurriedly walked out of the great hall, daring not to linger even a moment; after Pingyi left, Nüwa also spoke, advising: 'Pingyi is merely fond of play by nature; it is not worth your such anger. First, be at ease; later Pingyi will surely improve.'

Qi did not wish his anger to affect friends, but regarding Pingyi he truly had no recourse; he could only turn to Nüwa and say: 'Let us not speak of him; you came earlier to see me—what important matter did you discuss?'

Nüwa gave a helpless smile, knowing this was not the time to excuse Pingyi, and turned her thoughts to the important matter, saying: 'I came this time because I have fully refined the crimson embroidered ball, and from it I found the opportunity spoken of by my teacher earlier, hidden within the spirit treasure.'

After sensing the heavenly secrets, I indeed discovered this is a great boon; if successful, I expect we can share much merit.

Qi, hearing this, became somewhat interested and asked:

That is naturally excellent, but what opportunity does the crimson embroidered ball contain that you come to seek me for? Could it not also involve me?

Nüwa thought for a moment, then lightly laughed:

If you are willing, you can naturally join in, and thus also earn much merit.

Qi asked curiously:

First, speak so I may listen.

Nüwa laughed: 'Within the crimson embroidered ball lie three opportunities, in accordance with the Three Powers, divided into heavenly, earthly, and human three marriages; these three opportunities are more aptly called marital bonds.'

As long as one finds the corresponding persons and confirms these three marital bonds, merit can be easily obtained.

As for the heavenly marriage, I intend to confirm it from Di Jun and Chang Xi, Taiyi and Xi He; both belong to the heavenly gods, conforming to the Heavenly Dao's qi flow within the Three Powers.

Moreover, the Great Dao accords; whether taking sun and moon as counterparts, or lesser yin and lesser yang, the revelation is extremely fitting.

If they agree, I expect there will be no problem; this merit can be said to be easily attained.

As for the earthly marriage, Qi, you are actually quite suitable as well; it belongs to the earthly deities; if you are willing, I think the Daoist friend Gui Hui would be quite fitting.

Daoist friend Gui Hui is the lord of West Kunlun, of exalted status, and also bears the title of the Queen Mother of the West; the Dao is worthy of you, the Heavenly Court's emperor, the supreme god of all waters under heaven.

Interpretation: "In terms of cultivation, you two are both of the Primordial Dao; based on the Great Dao, your Purification Dao can also assist Dao Friend Gouhui in attaining the Dao."

We need to decide the translation for the terms meaning Primordial Dao, the Great Dao, the Purification Dao, and Dao Friend Gouhui.

The translation for the concept of attaining the Dao is 'attain the Dao'.

Thus translation: "In terms of cultivation, you two are both of the Primordial Dao; based on the Great Dao, your Purification Dao can also assist Dao Friend Gouhui in attaining the Dao."
