Chapter 98: The Innate Divine Sages' Reserved Plot

~7 min read 1,381 words

Two streams of light flashed between heaven and earth, drawing a long arc across the sky, splitting the originally thin clouds; sunlight fell on the West River, light and water merging into a line that separated into blue and white.

"Qi, you say this time when we go back we'll be surrounded and beaten?"

Taiyi felt a little excited at this thought.

"No, but I worry that we'll be too late returning this time and won't get to see Great God Yangmei."

Qi didn't know why, but he always felt that after this parting it would be hard to see Great God Yangmei again, which made him somewhat uneasy.

To Yangmei, Qi and the others were an extremely special existence, both teacher and friend, able to promptly awaken them when they went astray.

If Qi were to choose, he might prefer to follow Yangmei rather than Hongjun, but for some reason Yangmei never mentioned this.

He clearly knows that once he speaks up, several people would probably not refuse.

In the chaos, Yangmei continually passed through one chaos storm after another; despite crossing thus, he remained unstained.

In the end it was fate without affinity; Yangmei sighed in his heart.

He can no longer afford to stain himself with the primordial cause and effect, or else all his previous hard work would be wasted.

Though he greatly likes and values Qi, Taiyi and the others, he cannot do so, because he knows that these five people are too weighty for the primordial world.

The cause and effect involving these five people is too great.

Fuxi, Nüwa was born on a branch of Mount Buzhou, a part of the heaven‑earth pillar, and from birth must bear the burden of the human way.

As a manifestation of the human way, his foundation is still inferior to the two, yet he already endures such hardship; if he were to take them along, it would disregard the efforts of many close friends, which he cannot do.

Di Jun, Taiyi is the god of the sun star, governing the yang qi of the primordial world; he inherently carries great fortune and bears heavy responsibility.

His future is also one of the major calamity protagonists destined by the Heavenly Way; Yangmei has guessed many things, but cannot even inform them.

Even he himself cannot speak of it; the appearance of the Chaos Bell makes him think of many things, possibly involving plots between the Three Emperors and the star gods.

These are the reasons that make Yangmei hesitate; he believes that if the Three Emperors wish to do this, they must have unavoidable reasons, and he must also believe that their actions have their own justification.

As for Qi, Yangmei's feeling toward him is the most complex, and also the one he feels most similar to; he knows that once he speaks, Qi will surely follow him, just as when he first met Tai Huang.

But he does not want to bring it up with Qi precisely for this reason—what would happen if this person most similar to him had made a different choice back then?

Yangmei does not know, but he does not want Qi to walk his old path, for that would at most make Qi a second Yangmei rather than the first Qi.

Yangmei suddenly stopped in the chaos, gazing at the world that had abruptly appeared before him; it was extremely stable, and even within it living beings were born.

"Is this the reason the Great Dao wants to go into chaos?"

Yangmei murmured to himself.

"Infinite possibilities—alas, this possibility must be strangled by my own hand."

He does not know what schemes those ancient gods have, but he knows that preventing their return is forever correct for the primordial world.

"Though chaos is vast and boundless, that should be the retreat of us Innate Divine Sages, not the future of you chaos-born beings."

Yangmei's divine light condensed in his eyes, directly piercing the membrane of the world, easily scanning its interior.

Seeing the myriad strange living beings within, utterly unlike those of the primordial world, whether in cultivation methods or in bearing the Dao's manifestations.

"The world opened by Pangu the Great God, whether chaos or primordial, ought to be possessed by us gods."

"After all, in Hongmeng there is the Dao, and gods are one with the Dao."

A willow branch appeared on the wall of the world's membrane, easily piercing it and continually growing within the world.

In the span of a night, this world collapsed with a roar.

Yangmei does not care about the demise of this world; as he said, the chaos has long been regarded by the Innate Divine Sages as a reserved plot for the divine path, even if this is merely his and a few old friends' decision.

Since Tai Huang first brought Yangmei to chaos, he discovered it lacked the suppression of the primordial world, allowing him to act as he pleased; from that he knew the future of the divine way does not lie in the primordial world.

In the end the Great Dao must return to chaos, and the divine way can only follow the Great Dao to have infinite possibilities.

On that outing, Tai Huang did not communicate with the Heavenly and Earthly Emperors; it seemed from then on, in Yangmei's heart the Three Emperors were no longer a unity.

But now it is different from before; Yangmei also has his own ideas about chaos, he has feelings for the primordial world, and he does not know what schemes the Three Emperors have.

But in his view, for the Innate Divine Sages to control chaos is something he can accomplish.

And the Innate Divine Sages usually do not act against the primordial world; thus he can ensure that both the primordial world and the divine way remain safe.

They will lay a foundation for the divine way within chaos; as for how to break free from the primordial world, that will depend on the later‑generation Innate Divine Sages themselves.

Qi and Taiyi continue to accelerate, two divine lights slicing the sky's edge, leaving two long rainbows in the heavens as if they had suddenly appeared.

After a thousand years, Qi and Taiyi finally reached Yunmeng Ze, only to find that the ones greeting them were Nüwa, Fuxi, and Di Jun.

"Has Great God Yangmei already left?"

Qi's voice was somewhat low.

Nüwa and Fuxi were somewhat doubtful, but still replied:

"Well, the Great God left Yunmeng Ze a thousand years ago, feeling as if in a hurry; he said the inheritance would go to Di Jun after him, merely uttering a word before vanishing."

Qi fell silent for a moment, then said:

"It seems we will hardly meet again in the future."

"Hmm?"

Nüwa and Fuxi were very doubtful, but Di Jun came forward and said:

"What Qi said is correct; before leaving, Great God Yangmei indeed told me that afterward he would probably find it hard to come to Yunmeng Ze again."

At this moment Nüwa and Fuxi were completely bewildered, not knowing why someone they got along with so well would suddenly have to part for a long time.

"But there's no need to worry; those with affinity will surely meet again."

Di Jun, seeing this, comforted them.

Fuxi gave a slight explanation:

"It's not that I'm sad about Yangmei's departure and the difficulty of meeting again; I just wonder why you all know this while I and Nüwa did not notice."

Di Jun laughed:

"I originally had no intention to speak of this matter, but since Qi brought it up first, I had no choice but to say it as well."

Qi, seeing Di Jun's explanation, didn't say much, merely sweeping his gaze between Fuxi and Di Jun, and only after a moment did he say:

"What Di Jun said makes sense; those with fate will meet again, and for us, a long time is not an insurmountable peak."

"This parting is merely for a better reunion in the future."

Di Jun, hearing Qi's words, flashed a hint of surprise in his eyes, yet hid it there.

Qi saw it, but merely gave Di Jun a faint smile, his eyes filled with encouragement and praise.
