Chapter 134: Slaying the Immortal
Su Yuanshan had also kept an eye out for that so-called "Ghost of Slaughter," but he had not discovered any trace of the other party; as for the reason why, Su Yuanshan was not clear.
He could only search everywhere bit by bit like a headless fly, feeling the danger of a blind man riding a blind horse toward a deep pool in the middle of the night.
He could not even detect the aura of those two Mountain Gods anymore; those two fellows seemed to be hiding more securely than moles, clearly terrified to the extreme.
At that moment, he had no choice but to use the authority of the Huangliang Xian City God and directly recite the Summoning God Curse to summon them.
As Su Yuanshan recited the incantation, before long, that Long-horned Mountain God appeared with a look of terror on his face, stepping directly out from a mountain rock; he nervously glanced around, and seeing no sign of the Ghost of Slaughter, he wiped away a cold sweat and hurriedly bowed to Su Yuanshan.
"This minor god pays respects to the Prefect!"
However, for some unknown reason, even though Su Yuanshan recited the Summoning God Curse, that Green-robed Mountain God still did not appear.
The Long-horned Mountain God watched the surrounding movements while cautiously asking.
"I wonder why the Prefect has summoned this minor god here?"
Su Yuanshan asked with a frown.
"Why are you the only one here? Why did that Mountain God not respond to the summons?"
The Long-horned Mountain God shook his head.
"This minor god does not know either, perhaps..."
Su Yuanshan raised an eyebrow.
"Perhaps what? Does he have some special privilege?"
The Long-horned Mountain God cupped his hands with a bitter smile.
"This minor god truly does not know; although I have worked with him for many years, I am not very clear about his background or origins, and in recent years, he seems to have become increasingly strange."
Su Yuanshan wanted to ask how exactly the Green-robed Mountain God was strange, but he held back; his primary task at present was to find the little white fox, and he naturally did not want to waste time on other matters, so he asked.
"Let me ask you, have you seen my spirit fox?"
The Long-horned Mountain God nodded slightly.
"I will not hide it from the Prefect, this minor god did indeed see it; it seems to have been captured by the Ghost of Slaughter!"
Su Yuanshan narrowed his eyes.
"Captured by the Ghost of Slaughter?"
The Long-horned Mountain God sighed and said.
"That's right! Once you get involved with the Ghost of Slaughter, things become troublesome."
Hearing this, Su Yuanshan said.
"I was just about to ask you, what kind of sacred being is that Ghost of Slaughter? Why are you all so afraid of him?"
Upon hearing this, the Long-horned Mountain God smiled bitterly.
"As for his specific origins, this minor god is not very clear either; I only know that he comes from the Gumu Jinxu and seems to have some friendship with a Great Demon called Baie Hou. I remember it was a few years ago that the Great Demon came over to win him over."
Su Yuanshan was stunned upon hearing this, thinking to himself, Baie Hou? Baie Hou again; it seems this scourge is everywhere.
He let out a breath and asked again.
"Then what is the relationship between the Ghost of Slaughter and Earth Mother? Is that Earth Mother a god, a human, or a demon?"
The Long-horned Mountain God's expression changed drastically upon hearing this, as if merely speaking the name "Earth Mother" was a danger in itself.
He shook his head like a rattle-drum.
"This minor god truly does not know; I have only heard her great name but have never seen her true face!
However, I know she is even more terrifying than the Ghost of Slaughter; even when Baie Hou went to pay his respects to her, he was very polite and his attitude was extremely respectful. I estimate her background must be significant? That fellow didn't even get to see her face!
As for what the relationship between the Ghost of Slaughter and Earth Mother is, to tell the truth, this minor god really does not know. I am merely a tiny Mountain God with limited knowledge; if even you, Prefect, do not know, what ability would I have?
However, getting involved with them is not a good thing; it is best to provoke them as little as possible."
Seeing him sighing and groaning, which did not look like he was acting, Su Yuanshan said indifferently.
"It is not that I want to provoke anyone, but since that Ghost of Slaughter has captured my subordinate god, how can I stand by and watch? It seems I must meet this Ghost of Slaughter after all."
Hearing that Su Yuanshan was going to meet the Ghost of Slaughter, the Long-horned Mountain God seemed somewhat startled and could not help but change his expression, about to try and persuade him otherwise.
He then heard Su Yuanshan ask.
"Do you want to come along?"
Upon hearing this, the Long-horned Mountain God seemed frightened and hurriedly shook his head.
"I beg the Prefect for mercy!"
"Forget it!"
Since he did not want to follow, Su Yuanshan did not force him; after all, even if he did follow, he would not be of much use and would instead be a hindrance.
Seeing Su Yuanshan wave his hand, he let out a long sigh of relief, thanked him repeatedly, and fled as if escaping.
However, Su Yuanshan suddenly said without looking back.
"Is it very interesting to spy on me from behind for so long?"
Yet he called out twice, but there was no movement behind him; Su Yuanshan snorted coldly, drew a thread of spiritual energy from his spirit bead, and flicked his sleeve.
Only a "Bang!" was heard, as if it had hit something.
He turned and walked over, discovering that it had pierced through a locust tree and struck the ground, creating a shallow pit the size of a bowl.
Su Yuanshan frowned slightly, thinking to himself, could it have been my illusion just now?
However, being careful is always good; after all, this mountain is filled with a strange and ominous aura everywhere.
Su Yuanshan turned and left, searching everywhere for traces of the Ghost of Slaughter; however, he did not seem to notice that after he left, the hole pierced in that locust tree miraculously healed itself; not to mention the hole, there was not even a single scar or mark left.
An eye suddenly opened on the tree trunk, and that eye seemed alive, moving all the way up the trunk until it stopped on the highest branch, gazing in the direction Su Yuanshan had gone.
He searched in the forest for nearly half an hour, but Su Yuanshan did not track down the whereabouts of the Ghost of Slaughter, which made him feel somewhat puzzled.
When he wanted to avoid the Ghost of Slaughter before, that fellow insisted on chasing him; now that he was actively appearing to look for it, it did not appear instead.
Just as Su Yuanshan was frowning, he heard a "Ding-dang," and that strange bell sound came from the distance again.
Su Yuanshan could not help but feel a jolt in his heart upon hearing this, thinking to himself, finally, I have found it.
He leaped and flew toward the direction from which the bell sound came, yet when he arrived at the destination, the bell sound had vanished, and strange sounds of woodcutting drifted from the surroundings.
"Bang, bang, bang! Bang, bang, bang!"
Someone was actually cutting wood at a time like this? Who was it? That woodcutter? Or someone else? Was he not afraid of death?
Su Yuanshan followed the sound and walked forward cautiously; his footsteps were very, very light, and the sound grew closer and closer.
Finally, Su Yuanshan saw a hazy and tall figure, swinging an axe and hacking away vigorously amidst the mist.
However, after glancing at that figure, just a single glance, Su Yuanshan quietly pressed himself behind a large tree and did not look again.
A tall figure with six arms, six arms, was swinging a large axe and hacking away with great effort!
And what it was hacking was not a tree, but an immortal!
Although he only took one look, Su Yuanshan could tell that the one being hacked was indeed an immortal!
Although the immortal Qi on that immortal's body was already very faint, Su Yuanshan still sensed it.
That immortal seemed to have been sealed by some strange art, lying on a tree stump, seemingly unable to move at all.
