Chapter 85: Heavenly Division of Five Immortals

~8 min read 1,488 words

Su Yuanshan put away his divine office of rain, and the clouds in the sky gradually gathered and the rain ceased.

The leaves, nourished by the rain, were yellow-tinged green, and crystal-clear water droplets slid across their surfaces, dripping down one by one; the reflections within the droplets seemed to mirror the surrounding world.

Su Yuanshan gazed into the distance at the sea of clouds and mist at his feet; they gathered and dispersed, ethereal as smoke.

After finishing the rain, he did not return directly to the City God's Underworld Bureau, but instead rode the wind and flew toward the distance.

After all, it was rare to come up, so he wanted to inspect his own territory and jurisdiction.

This included Huangliang Xian and Tushan Xian; the area of the two counties was neither large nor small. Along the way, he browsed the famous mountains and great rivers, roads and terraced fields, houses and villages, forests and plains, as well as the plant and tree spirits, mountain wild monsters, birds and beasts, and the common people of the two counties living within Huangyuan Jing.

Everything appeared peaceful, yet for some reason, there was a faint, uncomfortable feeling in Su Yuanshan's heart.

He could not say exactly what the reason was.

Su Yuanshan focused his spiritual light into his eyes, yet he discovered nothing unusual.

Su Yuanshan steered the clear breeze, slowly lowered his cloud head, and landed at the foot of a large mountain.

There was only a small mountain path here, surrounded by ancient pines and cypresses, and sparse sunlight filtered through the gaps, spilling onto the moss on the ground.

Su Yuanshan walked slowly through the forest along the mountain path; after walking about two hundred meters, he saw a clear little lake, the surface of which was as smooth as a mirror.

By the lakeside stood a towering ancient tree that reached into the clouds, and beneath its roots was a flat bluestone, with moss dotted at the base of the bluestone.

Su Yuanshan walked to the base of the ancient tree, took a few ancient coins from his Spirit Void Ring, set up a defensive array, then lifted his front hem, sat cross-legged on the bluestone, placed his palms upward in front of his knees, visualized the Purple Mansion Immortal Scripture in his mind, and entered meditation before long.

Before much time had passed, auspicious signs could be seen swirling around his body, and brilliant light shone forth!

This miraculous scene immediately attracted many uninvited guests to the forest; they were shadowy and whispering.

Most were mountain spirits and wild monsters with meager cultivation, and even the little koi in the lake could not help but curiously poke its head out of the water.

"Who is this? So bold to practice alone in the forest? Is he a human?"

"I don't think so. Look at the auspicious signs swirling around him and the golden light flashing! He is likely a Heavenly Immortal!"

"Heavenly Immortal? Are those the human immortals who ascended to heaven in broad daylight?"

"Oh, my god, if he really is a Heavenly Immortal, that would be too terrifying! I once saw a Heavenly Immortal kill three Demon Kings with a flick of a finger!"

"That's right, those Heavenly Immortals move mountains and drain seas as if it were child's play; they are existences we can only look up to but never reach!"

"I'm afraid even Demon Sages are no match for them!"

"Hmph, don't talk nonsense and scare yourselves. I heard that those Heavenly Immortals all live in the Immortal Realm. Have you ever seen a Heavenly Immortal descend to the mortal world?"

"Those immortals in the mortal world are nothing more than four types of immortals: Divine Immortals, Earth Immortals, Human Immortals, and Ghost Immortals!"

The words of that green-faced little demon seemed to pique the interest of the other spirits and monsters.

A little doll wearing a red bellyband asked with wide, watery eyes.

"What is a Divine Immortal? What is an Earth Immortal? What is a Human Immortal? What is a Ghost Immortal?"

Many spirits and monsters saw the chubby little doll and could not help but drool; it turned out the little doll was a ginseng that had gained sentience.

But seeing the dark, cold-looking middle-aged man following behind the ginseng doll, they could not help but shiver and put away their tempting thoughts.

The green-faced little demon kindly explained.

"According to the records in the 'Chronicles of Strange Tales', those who have a body outside their body, shed their mortal form to ascend as immortals, transcend the mundane to enter sainthood, and decline the dust of the world to return to the Three Mountains are called Divine Immortals. Divine Immortals can change in a thousand ways, ride the clouds and control the Qi, and roam beyond the world."

The ginseng doll seemed to listen with a look of longing.

At this moment, the green-faced little demon continued.

"And the so-called Earth Immortals refine their form to remain in the world and achieve immortality! Although they can live long and see much, their divine power is limited; they can only roam and shuttle between famous mountains and great rivers, and can escape through the earth, water, or wood, but no matter what, they are still within the Three Realms. As for Human Immortals and Ghost Immortals, they are even easier to understand..."

He was just about to continue explaining when he was interrupted by a timid voice.

"If that's the case, he... is either a Heavenly Immortal or a Divine Immortal? But how could a Divine Immortal come to our remote little forest?"

An elderly hedgehog spirit tapped his cane, stroked his white beard that dragged on the ground, and said slowly.

"Look at the auspicious signs swirling around him; he is definitely at the Heavenly Immortal level. Let's leave quickly; if we wait for him to wake up, I'm afraid we will suffer the disaster of the pond fish!"

"Old Bai is right, let's leave quickly!"

While they were speaking, those mountain spirits and wild monsters scattered in a flurry and disappeared into the jungle and mountains in the blink of an eye.

Only the little koi in the small lake remained.

She hid under a lotus leaf, secretly observing Su Yuanshan.

It was not until Su Yuanshan's tiger-like body shook that he slowly opened his eyes.

Only then was she so frightened that she suddenly blew a bubble and dove back into the water.

Su Yuanshan naturally noticed the little koi that dove into the water, but he did not pay any attention to that little demon.

Just as a person would not pay attention to an ant on the ground.

Although he had just entered tranquility,

he was not completely unaware of the outside world, and he was as clear as a mirror in his heart regarding the reactions of those mountain spirits and wild monsters.

Su Yuanshan lowered his front hem, stood up, and was just about to leave when he heard a "whoosh" sound.

A little koi suddenly leaped out of the water, its tail flapping and splashing water; just as Su Yuanshan was puzzled,

the little koi suddenly begged him.

"He... Heavenly Immortal Lord, I just heard a spiritual message for help sent by the Princess to the nearby aquatic creatures. A little demon like me has meager magic power and is powerless to go and rescue her. Please go and save her!"

Su Yuanshan raised an eyebrow.

He was somewhat surprised.

Princess? A princess among the demons?

Under attack? Who would dare to attack her!

Su Yunshan said indifferently.

"You little demon are quite bold, daring to show yourself and beg me for help? Aren't you afraid that I might just kill you while I'm at it?"

The little koi answered, trembling.

"I am afraid, naturally I am afraid, but as long as I can save a life, even if I am afraid, I... I... I will not give up."

Hearing this, Su Yuanshan was somewhat surprised; although this little koi was a demon, it seemed to be kind to a fault.

He glanced at the little koi that would leap out of the water from time to time, just about to speak.

Suddenly, he felt his heart skip a beat, and a familiar sensation welled up in his mind.

Su Yuanshan could not be bothered to pay attention to the little koi; he simply flicked his long sleeves, soared into the air, and headed straight into the distance.

As he flew rapidly, the sound of the wind whistled in his ears, and rows of tree shadows swept past on both sides. Closer, closer, that familiar sensation was getting closer and closer!

An aura, demon energy permeating and raging wildly, like heavenly fire crashing to earth; an aura, clear, spiritual, and easygoing, like the gentle ripples of Ming Hu...
