When I first launched this book, Nanbei and I discussed with the editor: this novel would either succeed spectacularly or fail utterly—there was no middle ground. It was always meant as an experiment, so I maintained a relaxed mindset and wrote freely. Fortunately, many readers liked it, though many also criticized it. This is, without doubt, my most polarizing and controversial work to date…

Even now, I still don’t understand why. Back to the point: readers who’ve followed to the latest chapters should have noticed there are currently two main threads—one tracing Zhang Fan’s growth in lineage and cultivation, the other a hidden thread concerning the Great Daoist Cataclysm. These two threads unveil the Daoist underworld concealed within the modern metropolis…

Of course, what most readers are curious about is Zhang Fan’s origins—Zhang Lingzong, Li Ling, Zhang Fan before age twelve… and the hidden Wuwei Sect, along with the path of cultivation in the modern End-Dharma era…
