Chapter 1218: Millennium Love Story 23

~8 min read 1,430 words

Zhao Weifang never imagined that Liuqing would so quickly find security, and damn it, each one is big and burly—just looking at them is scary.

No matter how he inquired, nobody knew who Liuqing had latched onto; after much difficulty he thought of using Liuqing to suppress Chen Zhu, but that idea could only be scrapped.

But fortunately he still had Li Shao, whose ideas were far better than Zhao Weifang's own—though they required some money.

A few days later.

"Chen Zhu! You profiteer! Come out!"

"You shameless bastard! What rotten stuff are you selling? You made my daughter sick!"

The loud shouting quickly attracted nearby shop owners, who rushed out to ask what was happening.

"What's going on!" the hardware store owner's wife next to the cake shop was the first to run out and ask, and the crowd of onlookers grew.

The three aunties blocking the doorway all looked elderly; they weren't just there themselves, each brought their own family, making the scene utterly chaotic.

Seeing someone ask, the short-haired auntie who had been shouting angrily immediately started wailing.

"You don't know, we're all from the nearby villages; we scraped together some money with difficulty to buy a cake for our daughter's birthday, but as soon as we finished eating, our stomachs hurt, and now we can't even get out of bed."

As soon as she finished speaking, the tall, thin auntie immediately chimed in with a sharp voice.

"My child too! We just bought some pastries to eat, and after eating we felt uncomfortable all the time; even getting an IV at the clinic didn't help. We usually scrimp and save for the kids' sake—just buying a cake and something goes wrong? It's outrageous!"

The plump auntie on the far right wouldn't be outdone, slapping her thigh: "And my husband, after coming back from work, I saw him struggling to buy bread for him to eat, and that night he was in such pain he rolled around, losing three days of work."

The hardware store owner's wife was shocked: "There's such a thing? That shouldn't be… I see Xiao Zhu's family is quite clean."

The several shop owners nearby also felt doubtful; while they might believe the rumor about emotional issues, this cake shop was genuinely passed down from Jinlaoxiu, and its hygiene has always been fine.

"Oh… why don't you believe me? My daughter is still lying in bed!"

They kept adding to each other's talk, and in no time they were describing Chen Zhu's shop's goods as if they were poison—sometimes saying eating it would make people dizzy, sometimes saying it caused stomachaches.

Zhao Weifang saw the crowd growing, also confirmed Chen Zhu was in the shop today, but saw no one come out, so he hurriedly sent a few little thugs to cause trouble.

With the help, the aunties redoubled their efforts pounding on the door.

Clang.

One thug went all out, swinging the hammer, and the whole glass door shattered with a crash.

Jin Chen and Chen Zhu sat in the shop, their faces grim but still relatively calm.

This left the three aunties bewildered; no one told them they still had to smash the door, but the money had already been taken…

The short-haired auntie, her anger flared, put her hands on her hips and rushed over, pointing at Chen Zhu's nose and cursing.

"Do you still remember me, old lady? I bought a cake from you just yesterday, and today my daughter can't get out of bed!"

Jin Chen coldly flicked her hand away, "Quite lively, everyone's here now, huh?"

He took Chen Zhu's hand, shielding him behind him to block the crowd filling the shop.

"... What does that mean?"

The tall, thin auntie always felt this person was too calm.

Jin Chen took out a pre-prepared quality inspection report from the cash register drawer and flung a few sheets at them.

"Just look at the quality inspection report; three consecutive cases of discomfort are no small matter."

He glanced at Zhao Weifang hiding at the back, then looked back at the troublemakers, his tone mocking.

"Let's go to the hospital for a check-up now; I'll pay. If it turns out there's nothing wrong, I'll send you to the police station."

The troublemakers: "……"

"How… how come there's police involvement too! How would we get checked? Yesterday we bought the cake and it was fine; the issue is whether eating a bit caused any problem!"

Taking money to cause trouble—we've done that before; who has such a tough approach? Aren't they all just angry and desperate, rushing in to fight, and the more they fight the less sense it makes?

The supporting thugs also froze; they can't read, so they don't understand the quality inspection report, but they know the police station well.

The shop suddenly fell silent.

Jin Chen flicked the car keys in his hand, "Come on, life is paramount—what are we waiting for if not the hospital?"

A bunch of troublemakers, yet none dared to move.

The onlookers aren't fools either; they're all shop owners who have encountered trouble before.

"You're just here to cause trouble! Everyone's fine—why would we send you to the hospital and just stand around?"

"Exactly! I think they bought cake and just want to extort money—where in the world is there such a good deal!"

A few people flushed with embarrassment, stammering that anyway there must be a problem.

The more they talked, the more it sounded reasonable, and they started insisting that Chen Zhu is a pervert, so putting something in the cake isn't impossible.

Chen Zhu lowered his eyes, his aura extremely low, yet he remained silent.

Jin Chen's face instantly darkened, he turned his gaze and fixed his eyes, "Who said he's a pervert?"

His aura was too cold; just a glance was frightening. The yellow-haired thug was sweating, defiantly arms akimbo, "What's wrong with what I said! Liking to cling to men—what's wrong with that……"

Before he could finish, Jin Chen grabbed his throat and threw him onto the pile of broken glass; amid the surrounding gasps he crashed, covered in blood, his screams continuing nonstop.

The other few thugs froze on the spot, not expecting this person's methods to be so vicious; even their loyalty to stand up for brothers didn't dare surface, they only dared to drag out the brother whose back was full of glass.

At that moment Li Shao rushed forward, grabbing Jin Chen's arm to block him; before he could speak he felt a chilling gaze, turned his head to meet Chen Zhu's eyes, and his whole body inexplicably turned cold.

He collected himself, didn't take it to heart, and spoke gently, "Jin Chen, you're just a tenant; this has nothing to do with you—let Chen Zhu handle it himself."

"You don't know, Chen Zhu's reputation wasn't great before; don't get implicated."

After Li Shao finished, several thugs immediately chimed in, embellishing Chen Zhu's past deeds and saying it all over again.

They spoke extravagantly, saying how innocent Zhaolong was, because a pervert who loved to cling to men was forced to flee far away.

Chen Zhu listened quietly the whole time, not intervening; the taste of blood from his bitten tongue tip, his fingertips restless, scratching his thigh, yet he urgently wanted to see Jin Chen's reaction.

"The story was told well."

Jin Chen listened, even clapped a bit, seeming to have not taken in a word.

"Now it's my turn."

Li Shao frowned, feeling inexplicably uneasy, "Jin Chen... you don't believe me? This is all fact."

"Just saying something without proof doesn't make it a fact, and you're a college student? You're an idiot."

Jin Chen shoved him; Li Shao almost fell into the glass pile, but Zhao Weifang held him up, barely keeping him standing.

"Jin Chen! You..."

Li Shao turned pale at the sight before him.

Jin Chen placed the monitor on the table; the screen clearly showed Li Shao and Zhao Weifang, and their deal with the troublemaking aunts.

"Now that's what I call a fact—malicious framing and slander, even involving bribery to harm others; the charges are serious."

"No..." Li Shao broke out in a cold sweat all over, never expecting this dump to have surveillance; if his family and school found out... he'd be finished.

"Damn it! You secretly filmed! Don't you think that's illegal?"

Zhao Weifang's face turned ashen, his fists clenched so tight they crackled.

Jin Chen calmly raised an eyebrow, "I installed surveillance at my shop's entrance; does it bother you?"

Zhao Weifang: "..."
