Chapter 1765: Mermaid Rearing Guide 37
Ai Demeng still couldn't accept his failure.
But even if he remained unwilling, aside from a voice that could still speak and beastly eyes bulging to the point of nearly popping out, he couldn't move an inch.
He lay on the ground, his monstrous tall body becoming incredibly heavy, the limb rejection response that should have long disappeared reappearing, feeling only an electric-like numb pain from scalp to soles, his bones and meridians breaking and healing inch by inch, cycling on as before.
"Ten years ago, what exactly did you do?" Lin Juan faced Ai Demeng's current appearance, teeth clenched, his heart left only with torment and struggle.
He had already guessed the outcome, yet felt tragic about his misplaced trust over so many years.
Facing Lin Juan's emotionless questioning, Ai Demeng's gaze turned malevolent, overflowing with cruelty and glee.
"I knew you'd eventually learn these things; from the moment you first picked up the scalpel for a surgery, I've been waiting for this day! Hahaha... hahahaha!"
Ai Demeng laughed maniacally, his grayish pupils trembling, tightly staring at Lin Juan as if looking through him at another person, the one he hated with all his heart!
"You! Your father Lin Dashu accused me! Opposed my plan! Clearly having such advanced equipment, yet you used it to screen genes for that bunch of stupid animals! And you said I defy human common sense? Pah!"
"He suppressed me everywhere, even forcing me to leave the lab; since it's come to this... hahahaha! I'll make him and that utterly stupid gene-screening technique disappear together!"
Lin Juan exhaled in relief, finally hearing those words.
He turned his head and rested it on Jin Chen's shoulder, his brows and eyes brimming with deep sorrow and helplessness.
Jin Chen held Lin Juan's waist ever tighter, giving silent comfort.
Lin Juan took a deep breath, his cold eyes sweeping over Ai Demeng's limbs and torso, asking word by word: "High-Intelligence Animal Riot Event, what did you do?"
Facing this question, Ai Demeng merely smiled, as if wanting to unleash all the glee he had carefully hidden for years.
Lin Juan had no patience to listen to the goose-like honking, stepping on his broken ankle.
"Speak quickly!"
Jin Chen also clicked his tongue, saying, "If you don't talk, I'll beat you!"
Ai Demeng screamed loudly in anguish; just hearing the sound one knew it was unbearable pain, yet it only intensified his hatred, even he himself didn't know what he hated—anything that blocked his success deserved to die!
"It's all your father's fault!" Ai Demeng roared at Lin Juan: "I finally managed to implant controllable gene crystals into the bodies of those stupid animals I handled, but he discovered it... they, as a couple, insisted on exposing this and destroying my research results! Utterly foolish!"
"I killed them; I want everyone to support my experiment—sacrificing that batch of animals would give me all this, they died deservedly! Only regretting..."
Ai Demeng, eyes askew and mouth crooked, stared at the pallid Lin Juan: "Only regretting wasting that smartest octopus experimental subject—it was closest to experimental success! Even before death it could have saved you."
Indeed it was!
Jin Chen's eyes held deep emotion; he looked down with pity at the person half-leaning in his arms.
Lin Juan, however, seemed to have no reaction; his pallid expression could not hide the coldness in his brows and eyes, remaining silent.
"Lin Juan, Lin Juan... you don't know how pleased I am with this student of mine," Ai Demeng suddenly gave an ambiguous chuckle, spat a mouthful of blood, "I raised Lin Dashu's son into the person he despises most! Each of your surgeries is a spit on him, my revenge against him..."
Almost everyone's gaze fell on Lin Juan, their eyes varied.
Jin Chen furrowed his brows, pulling him protectively into his embrace, sealing Ai Demeng's mouth with a forbidden spell.
Lin Juan allowed his movements, slowly lowering his gaze to focus on his own hands, his eye color dim.
Ai Demeng struggled, uttering muffled sounds twice, but as his facial skin twisted, he gradually became extremely eerie.
Those around couldn't help but gasp, none daring to look any further.
Ai Demeng, too, sensed his own change and something off, struggling to reach out and touch.
"What's going on... what's going on... my face!"
That facial skin, utterly mismatched with his aged appearance, was cracking and twisting, the exposed flesh none spared.
"It's you! You did this! You're not an ordinary mermaid at all!"
Jin Chen: "You brought this on yourself, blame me? Crazy."
He flicked his finger, another splash of seawater poured onto Ai Demeng's face, no less than rubbing salt into a wound; Ai Demeng covered his face and let out a shrill scream.
"What isn't yours but you insist on taking—you deserve it." Jin Chen had tolerated him for long; if not wanting to hear the truth, he wouldn't have left him alive.
He tugged the rope binding Ai Demeng's bizarre body, watching this neither-human-nor-ghost thing fade to the brink of death.
"Boss! Reinforcements from the Animal Protection Association have arrived!"
Xu Yi, who always kept relaying messages to the outside, received the news and immediately told Jin Chen, then suddenly thought of something and grabbed You Zhuoran's hand: "This time you can definitely go together."
The White Wolf King, having finished resting, carrying a red bun, was the first to dash outward.
Jin Chen turned sideways, patting Lin Juan's back, his eyes showing concern he couldn't hide, he said softly: "You go out with them first; I'll handle what's left here, okay?"
Lin Juan lifted his gaze to him, nodded slightly, as if sinking into a sluggish numbness where he could no longer think.
Fragile as if it could shatter at any moment like crystal.
Jin Chen suddenly grasped his icy hand, warmth transmitting from his palm: "Don't do anything stupid; I'll be there soon."
"Okay..." Lin Juan hoarsely spoke, his last vestiges of rationality and clarity barely allowing him to respond.
Under You Zhuoran's coordination, the remaining staff and experimenters who no longer resisted left the base in droves, all protective shields already broken by Jin Chen to a large extent.
Jin Chen dragged that hemp rope toward an open clearing, letting Ai Demeng's body scrape face-down on the ground, leaving behind fragmented tissue wherever it passed.
He released his divine sense to scan the entire base; even the unwilling higher-ups of Ai Demeng's team were captured.
In the end, only the powerless-to-escape high-intelligence animal experimental subjects remained, scattered across the labs on various floors.
Heading forward, he bumped into the Animal Protection Association's people; Jin Chen halted his steps, solemnly saying: "There are still many experimental subjects inside—hurry and rescue them."
The leading chairman, looking at the neither-human-nor-thing on the ground, broke out in a cold sweat: "Could this be... Ai Demeng?"
Jin Chen cut him off: "Don't think of taking him alive; this person can only die, or die."
"..." These two options aren't different, are they!
"Mr. Jin, we still need to take Ai Demeng back for investigation; he's a key leader of this criminal syndicate."
The leader, having learned Jin Chen's mermaid identity, spoke with utmost reverence.
Rumor has it this person... oh no, this fish likes to abduct scientific bigwigs in broad daylight!
Jin Chen gave a hard tug, Ai Demeng's whole body, scraping on the ground, flipped over; the antibodies produced by continuous surgeries kept his mind unusually clear, but his features were nearly worn flat, flesh blurred and mixed with soil, the areas covered in fur scorching crimson.
"Investigate with this ghastly appearance?" Jin Chen asked.
The members of the Animal Protection Association fell into Silence.
「If you want to know something, just ask Xu Yi. 」 Jin Chen walked past them and went forward, throwing Edmond down in the most empty spot.
Everyone in the Animal Protection Association wanted to know what Jin Chen really intended to do; unable to resist curiosity, they stopped in their steps, enduring disgust and discomfort to look.
They only heard a bang, then realized what Jin Chen was about to do, and scattered to flee farther away.
After the bloodshed, Jin Chen withdrew the seawater protective barrier, looking at the scattered animal limbs all over the ground, which had no relation to Edmond's body, and nodded in satisfaction.
That's how it should be.
The Animal Protection Association, which had almost been implicated: ……
This merman is really ferocious!
