Chapter 1774: Magic Academy's Oriental Exchange Student 05
Before the potions class the next day, Laisuo's roommate again asked Professor Luna to change dorms, saying that even if they mixed with students from other classes, they absolutely would not continue being roommates with Laisuo.
"He's just too strange, Professor Luna! By the Holy Emperor, I swear I've never seen anyone who would catch so many little magic creatures and bring them back to the dorm!" Laisuo's roommate shouted frantically: "I hear hissing and clacking sounds in the dorm every night! It's like demonic laughter!"
Upon hearing this, the other students immediately showed an understandable look of terror: "This is truly disastrous; no one would want to be roommates with Laisuo."
Laisuo also applied again to move out of the dormitory; he wanted to live alone in a small cottage in the rear forest, which was very suitable for brewing potions and practicing magic, and would not disturb anyone.
Professor Luna was a bit troubled, because according to the relevant regulations of Weisipa Comprehensive Magic Academy, the lower division is not allowed to live off-campus.
"But... well, I mean if today no classmate is willing to be Laisuo's roommate, then I will apply for him to have the right to live alone."
As soon as she finished speaking, Jin Chen raised his hand: "I volunteer, teacher."
Classmates:!
It's actually another Oriental exchange student; isn't he at all afraid of Laisuo!?
Laisuo: "......"
His small wish was dashed again; he sighed a little wistfully, and also wondered how long it would take this new roommate to evolve to the point of wanting to move out.
Nevertheless, holding the attitude that being a roommate entails responsibility, Laisuo still responded to Jin Chen's request and nodded at Professor Luna.
"Good heavens, that's wonderful." Professor Luna was very pleased: "We've happily decided on that."
The elegant lady left the classroom wearing high-heeled shoes that changed color every day, feeling very happy about not having to waste after-work time filing a special application.
Jin Chen sat beside Laisuo, placing a yellow paper folded into a triangle in front of him: "Here, this is a gift in return for the restorative potion."
Laisuo poked it doubtfully with his finger, felt no magical energy, and asked curiously: "What is this?"
"It's an Oriental talisman." Jin Chen leaned in, lowering his voice to explain: "If translated into magic, it would function like concealment magic—later, if you don't want others to notice what you're doing, you can unfold the paper and stick it on your forehead."
"No one will notice."
Laisuo was astonished, his red eyes staring blankly at this seemingly ordinary piece of paper.
"Even a mage of higher level than me wouldn't notice, would they?" This is the drawback of concealment magic—it requires the other person's magical power to be sufficiently high, otherwise it's almost useless.
"That's correct." Jin Chen said firmly.
"That's impressive." Laisuo, rarely showing some excitement, a bit embarrassed, took the paper… talisman, thinking of what he still had to do, indeed he really needed its help.
But…
"Talismans are more precious than restorative potions," Laisuo said in his usual slow tone, his impression of this new roommate better than all the previous ones.
He pursed his lips, holding the talisman, and said: "How about I give you a bottle of another potion instead?"
"What effect do you want?" Laisuo asked softly, looking up.
Jin Chen glanced at his delicate features without changing expression, his voice unconsciously softening considerably: "How about I give you the answer after this class? Maybe the potion lesson later will give me inspiration."
But his own potion-making method differs from what's taught in class.
The little dark mage thought, hoping that Jin Chen would never find out his method, since many who had tried to befriend him before were scared off by those things.
"Okay." Laisuo nodded.
Suddenly, the classroom began to buzz with activity.
Jin Chen curiously looked toward the doorway.
"Young Master Delian is back!"
The purple-haired noble boy, accompanied by the background music of his admirers, walked down the corridor; as he passed, the classroom windows flung open one after another, and various ways of presenting gifts kept appearing.
"Young Master Delian, this is magic chocolate I made myself; eating it will make cute little elves dance on your tongue—please be sure to accept it!"
"These are specially made alfalfa cookies, tastier than those from the goblin shop, Delian classmate—this is a gift specially prepared for you!"
"......"
And so on.
But Delian ignored them all, until he entered the classroom and exchanged smiles with Aliya, who stood by the door and at her seat.
"I'm back, Aliya."
"Welcome back, I've missed you." Aliya gave a faint smile.
Outside the door, another burst of screaming erupted.
Jin Chen and Laisuo almost simultaneously clutched their heads in pain, covering their ears.
Jin Chen lifted his gaze, glanced at Delian leaning on his desk showing off, and moved the desk aside.
Delian nearly stumbled, frowned and lowered his gaze, then watched helplessly as Jin Chen rummaged through his cloth bag, pulling out a bizarre picture and sticking it on the desk.
Foolish Oriental exchange student.
Delian wasn't curious about what that was, and lifted his foot to step back.
Laisuo was very curious.
But he really couldn't bring up the topic, so he pulled down his hood, hoping Jin Chen would understand his doubt.
Jin Chen couldn't help laughing out loud, really finding it adorable, and voluntarily explained: "This is a portrait of Zhong Kui… oh, Zhong Kui is a deity from our Eastern Continent."
"Its function is to ward off evil." Jin Chen said meaningfully.
Laisuo, lost in thought, quietly glanced at Delian behind him.
Hearing all of this, Delian: "......"
