Chapter 1870: The Frail Young Master's Proxy Bride, the Beautiful Wife 25
The drizzly street corner.
Raindrops flowed from the eaves, abruptly cutting off at the bend, pooling into small puddles on the ground, then trampled in haste, splashing mud.
A sharp blade was drawn.
A white flash flickered; Jin Chen leaned back, agilely dodging, then backhanded blocked the man's descending longsword, his short dagger spun once and plunged into the masked man's neck, killing him in one strike!
When the corpse hit the ground, it struck the corner of the wall and sent water splashing everywhere.
Jin Chen's ruthlessness clearly exceeded their expectations; the few behind hesitated for a moment.
By the time they reacted again, they had already been driven into the alley corner; the blue stone bricks were slippery and wet, and the drizzle gradually lessened.
【Host, you can't get wet in the rain!】 Ling Gun Gun anxiously reminded.
Jin Chen narrowed his eyes, wanting a quick battle to leave a living mouth for interrogation.
Heavy rain fell on the sword tip, lifting blood that was then washed away; in the rain curtain only the fighting figures flitted about.
Soon, only one person remained at this moment.
That person weakly knelt, his hands broken and powerless; Jin Chen lifted his chin with the tip of the sword he had seized.
Raindrops struck his face; the assassin still wanted to make a last desperate stand, but he heard a weak, low voice sound, full of danger.
"You are the last one; according to the rules, I will not kill you."
The assassin stared, then quickly realized something; his eyes, full of killing intent, glared fiercely at Jin Chen.
"Don't think you can get anything from me! Even if you escape today, you won't escape in the future."
"Oh, it seems the person behind really wants me dead, relentlessly." Jin Chen pondered, then raised his hand; the sharp sword tip grazed the assassin's Adam's apple, breaking the skin.
"Speak, who is that person?"
Upon careful listening, Jin Chen's icy tone slowed a bit, as he pondered in his mind whether the original self had any enemies.
But having been bedridden with illness for years, let alone forming grudges, even the people he had seen were few.
Even if the assassin feared no death, he was frightened by Jin Chen's aura, and with corpses strewn about, easily slain, he could only curse in his heart the person who paid to bring them here.
"What nonsense, just a sickly weakling!"
"How could your sickly weakling become so formidable?"
He suppressed his fear deep inside, his lips trembling as he uttered three words.
"Lord Sheng..."
Jin Chen furrowed his brows, his whole body soaked, his head faintly aching as he thought.
"How is it this person again?"
"Which bastard is this exactly?"
"Who is Lord Sheng?" Jin Chen continued asking, subtly glancing at the wall bricks nearby that showed some movement.
"He... he is an official from the capital; we don't know his exact identity..."
"Young Master!"
Jin Chen heard the government soldiers' voices, sheathed his sword and lowered his hands, feeling somewhat fatigued.
This broken body simply cannot sustain that earlier fight.
"This person, plus the other team ambushed in the adjacent alley, are all tied up."
The interrogated assassin stared in disbelief, "How do you know?!"
As soon as his words fell, another squad of assassins who also heard this scaled the alley wall, their longswords pointing straight at Jin Chen.
Jin Chen dragged his weary body away, not panicking at all, merely his drooping head felt heavy and dazed, as if the little rain had all seeped into his head.
The agile government soldiers hurriedly shielded him, drawing their long blades to oppose the assassins.
The carriage also stopped at the alley entrance; in the rain curtain Jin Chen saw a moon-white figure hurrying over with an umbrella, the corners of his lips twitching.
"Husband!"
Ye Yuchi stared intently at Jin Chen, the worry in her eyes undisguised, her heart even more panicked.
Simply put, Jin Chen now looks extremely frail, his complexion as pale as frost, his usual noble bearing seemingly washed away by this sudden rain.
Ye Yuchi only glanced at the fight behind Jin Chen, then rushed over heedless to support him, holding up her umbrella to block the growing cold rain.
"Aci, this place is dangerous." Jin Chen's lips curled, he leaned forward to gather the worried husband into his embrace; the damp warmth made Ye Yuchi shudder, holding Jin Chen tighter.
"You know it's dangerous, yet you came yourself."
Ye Yuchi felt a bit resentful, then heard the Jin Chen buried in her embrace let out a lazy hum; his voice began to turn hoarse, his breath scorching.
"But they can't beat me."
Ye Yuchi helplessly pressed her lips, ultimately unwilling to blame, "My husband is very strong, I know; let's return home first..."
Before she could finish, the sudden loss of strength in the body slumped in her arms cut her off; Ye Yuchi's pupils flashed with panic, "Husband..."
He lowered his head, the oil-paper umbrella falling, holding Jin Chen tightly.
But his tightly closed peach blossom eyes gave no response.
"Young Lady, come quickly!"
Lv Yi came over with an umbrella, Duo Yu jumped down from the carriage wanting to help, but as soon as she reached out her hand toward Jin Chen, Ye Yuchi lifted her eyes and glanced at her, her gaze dark and heavy.
Seeing Duo Yu stunned, Ye Yuchi realized her reaction was off, and said in a muffled voice, "I'll do it myself."
Inside the carriage, the small stove burned brightly, dispelling the heavy chill brought by the sudden rain.
Ye Yuchi's expression tense, she carefully laid the fainted Jin Chen flat on the bed, then removed all his rain-soaked clothes and covered him with a heavy blanket.
After doing all this, Ye Yuchi slightly pressed her lips, used the back of her hand to test Jin Chen's forehead temperature; the heat made her pupils tremble, her red eyes fixed on his unresponsive brows.
"Husband... Jin Chen."
Inside the carriage, only Ye Yuchi's low voice sounded, filled with panic and unease.
He feared more than anyone that Jin Chen would suffer any injury, dreading that this life might be easily taken again.
No one answered Ye Yuchi's unease; he took a deep breath, leaned forward and embraced Jin Chen, who was wrapped in a heavy blanket, closed his eyes tightly, and could not help but let his thoughts run wild.
Fortunately, the carriage soon returned to Jin Manor.
