Chapter 1899: Living with Mister Ghost: Odds and Ends 15

~6 min read 1,087 words

Jiang Wen again glanced warily at the terrifyingly ghost‑like Jin Chen, swallowed, and continued: "I… I lied before; I actually don't know you at all. I only know you have a high status in the Jin Family and were very powerful before—Jin Bing and the others fear you…"

Jin Chen lowered his eyes, lost in thought, then suddenly said: "Go find Jin Ze and bring him back."

Jiang Wen exclaimed: "Me? Jin Ze is a feng shui master!"

Jin Chen: "Twenty minutes. If you don't bring him back, you die."

Jiang Wen: "……"

How infuriating to become a fierce ghost and still feel so stifled!

The hanged ghost, swollen by the melon, could no longer stay aloft; its head dropped and rolled to Jin Chen's feet, frightening it into a panicked crouch.

Jin Chen coldly lifted his eyelids, locked eyes with the rolling head of the hanged ghost, and said: "Get lost."

"All right, Great King."

The hanged ghost's head rolled back again, its eyes squeezed shut.

Moments later the hanged ghost remembered the melon it had eaten earlier and rolled back once more.

"Great King, you… you seem to have become a Ghost King after death, harmed by the Jin Family—could it be that before you died they used a Transformation Nail to forcibly turn you into a Ghost King?"

Jin Chen: "Transformation Nail?"

The hanged ghost's head twitched on the ground, as if nodding, then rolled over again: "It might not be that; a Transformation Nail is driven straight into a person's bones and seven orifices."

"After becoming a ghost there's a period of weakness; you're so powerful… it doesn't seem like you were transformed."

Jin Chen also never found any nail on himself, so he stopped focusing on that and began slowly searching the room instead.

Twenty minutes later.

Jiang Wen was exhausted like a dead dog, but he managed to lure Jin Ze over.

The moment Jin Ze saw Jin Chen he tried to flee, but as soon as he turned he was entwined by black mist; his feeble spiritual power could not resist, and he was forced to kneel, facing Jin Chen head‑on.

"Jin Ze."

Jin Chen was already familiar with that surge of gloomy qi and could use it to track enemies; this Jin Ze was an outstanding example.

"Why are you running?"

Jin Ze struggled violently, his eyes toward Jin Chen blazing with fear yet putting on a brave front as he snarled: "I'm not running; should I just wait for you to kill me? You… how did you recover so fast?"

Jin Chen, tired from standing, found a sofa to sit on, lowered his gaze at the forced‑kneeling Jin Ze, and said nothing.

Jin Ze met those pitch‑black eyes, saw the surging killing intent within, and felt an inexplicable chill spread up his back.

Jin Chen said nothing, yet commanded Jin Ze to collapse; the black mist pressed him, rapidly draining his warmth, his face turning pale as he clung to the ground: "Killing me… won't help!"

"I won't kill you."

Jin Chen said calmly.

He had promised Xia Tan today when he went out that he would not kill anyone.

"Tell me, where is the Jin Family's feng shui master branch?"

"That is his true enemy."

Jin Ze gritted his teeth, his expression more terrifying than the surrounding ghosts: "I won't tell you!"

"Ahhhhh—"

Jin Ze was instantly swallowed by the black mist; a painful, wretched scream came from within, making one's scalp tingle just to hear it.

Jin Chen slowly tilted his head; his pallid, cold expression revealed a casual chill—he merely said he wouldn't kill, but didn't say he'd spare him.

"I'll talk… I'll talk! Ahhhhh! Spare me!"

Jin Ze wailed miserably, as if trying to suffer all his life's pain at once: "They're behind the seal! Behind the seal at the back mountain of the Jin Family ancestral home!"

Jin Chen waved his hand casually; the black mist dissipated.

The melon‑eating hanged ghosts jumped three feet away in fright, utterly unable to recognize what had become of Jin Ze all of a sudden!

Jin Chen's pupils shifted slowly, then he fixed his gaze on the still‑frightened Jiang Wen: "What else do you know?"

Jiang Wen wished he could sink into the wall; hearing that, he thought a few more words might earn his release, and racked his brains for anything about the Jin Family.

"I… I have! I know! The Jin Family still has a Ghost King! He's trapped in the back mountain!"

Hanged ghost: "Holy crap? Another Ghost King!"

These days, are Ghost Kings being wholesaled too!

"Very good."

Jin Chen raised his hand and effortlessly crushed Jiang Wen's spirit, reducing it to ashes.

Just as he was about to extract something more from Jin Ze's mouth, a surge of red mist burst in through the window, stronger than any fierce ghost he had faced before—even comparable to him.

Jin Chen's eyes turned fierce in an instant, and he chased after the red mist, rushing out.

"Great King, wait for me!"

The hanged ghost, too lazy to bother with the sole human here, tucked its head back and hurriedly followed.

Jin Ze lay on the floor, not yet able to feel the joy of surviving the ordeal, when he suddenly looked toward the window in terror.

Several small clusters of red mist came and went!

They vied to burrow into Jin Ze's body; soon his corpse collapsed to the ground, leaving only an empty shell.

Two hours later.

Xia Tan and Lian Min followed Officer Cui, as well as investigators from the Strange Investigation Department, responding to a public report and returning once more to Jin Bing's house.

The investigators were unusually solemn, filling the house with their dedicated ritual implements, yet found no trace of the fierce ghost that had killed the victim Jin Ze.

The investigators spoke gravely: "The implements cannot probe; they can only prove one thing."

"The fierce ghost that killed Jin Ze is at least Ghost King‑level, extraordinarily vicious."

Xia Tan's pupils shifted instantly; she barely retreated half a step and probed: "Then why would this Ghost King kill Jin Ze? What had he done before?"

Officer Cui said: "We investigated earlier; Jin Bing and Jin Ze, the two brothers, have excellent reputations among friends and often do good deeds helping others."

Besides, killing people — what need is there for any reason?

Killing people — if you want to kill, just kill; what need is there for reason?
