Chapter 1913: Living with Mr. Ghost: Miscellaneous Affairs 29

~7 min read 1,261 words

Jin Chen received the previous memories, faintly recalling that this wasn't his first time coming here.

Winding Stream Pavilion, the Qian Family's private loft used to receive guests, seeks tranquility amidst the bustling city; downstairs is an antique-style restaurant for ordinary patrons, upstairs are discreetly arranged private rooms.

An elegant woman in a cheongsam pushed the door open and entered.

"You arrived pretty punctually."

Qian Xiaoqin exchanged pleasantries offhand, only after entering did she realize that the current Jin Chen was not her old friend but the Ghost King who had just slain his enemy, a Ghost King who had cultivated ghost bones.

She then paused at the doorway, observed Jin Chen's expression for a few seconds, confirming he had no hostility before stepping inside.

Jin Chen took in her reaction, then calmly set down his teacup, his voice clear and cold, "Long time no see."

Qian Xiaoqin blinked slightly, then laughed and nodded, relieved to sit opposite Jin Chen, raising a hand to gently smooth her pinned hair.

"Long time no see."

She had been overthinking.

Qian Xiaoqin thought, even if he became a ghost, Jin Chen remained the same person who demanded too much of her.

He would not allow himself to lose reason and become a mad, ferocious ghost.

"How much did Zhou Li tell you?"

Jin Chen went straight to the point, after all, the overly jealous little bee only gave him two hours.

Thinking of Xia Tan's aggrieved, clear-eyed look when she acted coquettish, Jin Chen rubbed his fingertips, his aloof expression softening for a moment.

As the current head of the Qian Family, who commands hundreds of disciples in the field of metaphysics, Qian Xiaoqin is skilled at reading these expressions and turning them into favorable negotiating conditions.

Qian Xiaoqin: "Zhou Li only said you wanted to see me, that you needed my help with something in order to sign that agreement smoothly."

She leaned forward slightly, fingertips lightly touching the table, somewhat intrigued she asked: "Jin Chen, what help do you need? Are those baseless rumors actually true?"

"You've raised a human, and for his sake you've given up revenge against the rest of the Jin Family."

Jin Chen shrugged noncommittally, lazily leaning back, "The purple qi left in the Jin Family, I've taken it back."

"I want to transfer the purple qi into the body of an ordinary person who hasn't studied cultivation; I need your help."

This is why he came specially to find Qian Xiaoqin.

With purple qi protecting her, Xia Tan will no longer be harmed by his yin qi no matter how close the contact.

Qian Xiaoqin pondered a moment, then said regretfully: "You should know that your purple qi is an extremely rare cultivation opportunity for anyone."

Jin Chen: "It has nothing to do with me."

"... Alright."

Qian Xiaoqin nodded helplessly: "But I need to meet the person you mentioned; some constitutions are unsuitable for absorbing purple qi."

"Then today, wait..."

Before Jin Chen's words finished, a somewhat urgent bell signal suddenly rang.

The caller ID showed Xiao Mi Feng.

After the call connected, the speaker was a strange voice.

"Jin Chen, uh… I'm Lian Min, Xiao Tan's good friend; he's had an incident, he's at First Hospital; can you come over now?"

Jin Chen's expression shifted slightly, "What happened?"

"A car accident, but not too serious… huh?"

Lian Min stared blankly at the hung-up phone, puzzledly scratched his head, then looked toward the hospital bed where Xia Tan was still having her wounds treated by the doctor.

"Jin Chen hung up, huh; will he come?"

Excessive blood loss left Xia Tan's face extremely pale, she almost lost consciousness, gazing dazedly at the doctor and nurse treating her wound; hearing the words, she instinctively clutched the disinfectant sheet.

Xia Tan stubbornly murmured, "He will come…"

"He will come."

Less than a minute later, the hospital room door was suddenly pushed open.

"Holy shit…"

Lian Min jumped in fright, glanced at his phone, then looked at the tall, long-legged cold-faced man striding over.

"Did this guy fly over? So fast!"

"... Ah."

Lian Min suddenly recalled Jin Chen's identity.

"He's a ghost, after all—he really can fly over."

The frightened Lian Min quietly shifted his steps to dodge a bit, then noticed the cheongsam-clad beauty following Jin Chen inside.

Qian Xiaoqin gave him a slight nod, the tassel of her jade hairpin swaying, her red lips curving into a smile, "Hello."

"You, hello."

Lian Min puzzled, Lian Min pondered.

Lian Min was greatly shocked.

How could Jin Chen bring a beauty to see his lover!

Is this reasonable?

This is unreasonable.

Alas, no one paid attention to Lian Min's overly rich inner thoughts.

The doctor and nurse had already left the ward; Jin Chen walked to the bedside and saw Xia Tan's right calf exposed outside the blanket, wrapped in thick gauze, faintly revealing the blood seeping through.

"Jin Chen…"

Xia Tan suddenly gripped his hand tightly, cold sweat dampening the hair at her forehead, eyelashes glistening with tiny moisture, her gaze somewhat unfocused.

"I'm here."

Jin Chen stroked Xia Tan's cheek, suddenly his brow furrowed slightly; he carefully tried the temperature beneath her shoulder with the back of his hand—it was very cold, different from the cold of a normal body temperature.

"What's going on?" Jin Chen asked softly.

Xia Tan felt light‑headed, instinctively wanting to move closer to Jin Chen, but she couldn't hear what he was saying, and her blood‑less fingertips caught the hem of his shirt.

The ward fell silent for two seconds. Lian Min hurried to explain: "We were on an out‑call, and when we got off the highway we were rear‑ended. Xiao Tan's leg is hurt, and… the doctor suspects he has a blood‑clotting disorder, saying… his temperature plunged and he can't stop bleeding, things like that."

His words came out haltingly, Lian Min wiped sweat with his sleeve, for the gaze of this ghost‑like elder brother was too frightening.

"Yin energy has entered the body."

Qian Xiaoqin suddenly lowered her voice, her expression unusually solemn, and said from beside Jin Chen: "Let me take a look."

Jin Chen moved half a step aside, Qian Xiaoqin produced a magical implement, held it hovering above Xia Tan's forehead, and a faint ethereal light began to swirl.

Lian Min stared at the scene in shock, then hurriedly shut the ward door tight and stood guard at the entrance.

Xia Tan had no idea what they were doing.

She only noticed that Jin Chen had arrived, yet he stood there overly silent, saying something to another person.

But no one paid her any attention.

This realization filled Xia Tan with panic; she suddenly grabbed Jin Chen's arm, tears spilling from her eyes and hitting the pillow, her breathing ragged, feeling utterly wronged.

"Jin Chen… Jin Chen…"

Xia Tan thought her questioning voice was loud, but it was only a soft murmur, like a coquettish whisper, making her seem all the more pitiful.

"I feel awful… why won't you hold me? Why won't you hug me?"

Xia Tan struggled to sit up, but Qian Xiaoqin quickly pressed her hand down on him: "Don't move."

Jin Chen's gaze fell on Qian Xiaoqin's hand, and he gave her a cool look.

"Damn, I forgot."

Qian Xiaoqin snatched her hand back as if shocked, then took Jin Chen's hand and pressed it down again: "Don't let him move."

The familiar warmth and touch calmed Xia Tan; with tear‑filled, blurred eyes she turned her face to rub his palm, whispering, "Jin Chen…"
