Chapter 1919: Living with Mr. Ghost: Some Odd Things 35
Xia Tan never imagined she could actually wound this overly vicious evil ghost.
But the anticipated satisfaction of revenge didn't appear; instead, a feeling of helpless discomfort spread in their heart.
"Really ruthless."
Jin Chen murmured faintly, his gloomy gaze fixed on Xia Tan, completely ignoring the bloodstain scorched by purple qi.
In a daze, Xia Tan felt she had heard those words before, making their already overly painful heart clench sharply, soreness spreading through their limbs.
Xia Tan knelt opposite Jin Chen, their expression somewhat blank as they looked back at him, then suddenly reached out and touched his shoulder.
"It hurts." Jin Chen complained at the right moment.
Jin Chen's brows slightly furrowed, as if he had suffered some blow; his gloomy, deep eyes showed sorrow, and he let out a light sigh.
"Do you really want to kill me?"
Xia Tan blinked helplessly, their dark pupils shifting slightly as they stared at Jin Chen's sorrowful appearance.
To die at the hands of this evil ghost.
It should be hated.
But why does it feel so painful?
My heart hurts so much.
Xia Tan hadn't yet come to their senses, instinctively fingertips lightly touching the bloodstain, then timidly lifting their eyes to look at Jin Chen, finally biting their lip and moving back.
Under Jin Chen's seemingly sorrowful but actually interested gaze, Xia Tan almost instinctively lowered their head and sucked the fresh blood flowing from the wound.
This pose made it seem as if they voluntarily leaned into Jin Chen's embrace, the height difference making Xia Tan appear ever more slender.
Jin Chen's recovery ability was strong; in moments the wound healed, leaving only a faint, light-colored scar, somewhat glaring.
Xia Tan lifted their eyes to Jin Chen again, somewhat unhappily asking, "Why aren't you speaking? Are you angry?"
Upon hearing this, Jin Chen clearly sensed that Xia Tan's soul and spirit were unstable, the resentful part showing signs of detachment.
But Xia Tan was visibly exhausted.
Probably not a good time now.
Jin Chen pulled two wet wipes from the bedside, casually wiped the blood-soaked collar, and carried the obedient Xia Tan out of the messy bed.
"Not angry."
Jin Chen walked to the side chamber, glanced at them, and said lazily, "But if you don't obey, that's not certain."
Xia Tan: ""
A little scared.
Xia Tan pressed the corners of their lips, only then realizing that everything now seemed somewhat different.
They actually lost the killing intent toward this evil ghost... to be precise, it was a split.
Xia Tan couldn't connect the present Jin Chen with the evil ghost that had previously strangled them to death.
But thinking back to all that, Xia Tan felt wronged again.
They had done nothing wrong, merely moving into this house, yet they were to be endlessly bullied by the evil ghost, the pain and fear never to be erased.
Xia Tan's shoulders trembled as tears fell silently; only when placed on the side-chamber bed did Jin Chen notice.
"What are you crying about again?"
Jin Chen wiped the corner of their eyes, his voice helpless yet filled with deep affection; the gloomy ghost qi was restrained so well that Xia Tan felt nothing of it.
Xia Tan felt even more wronged for no reason.
The side-chamber curtains were tightly closed, no lights on, very dark.
But they are both ghosts now, so it makes no difference.
The tears Xia Tan shed seemed wrapped in hatred, unable to heed the inner split, their sobs shrill and piercing.
"Why do you want to kill me..."
Jin Chen stared, then tightly embraced the trembling Xia Tan, gently rubbing their tense, curled neck, "It wasn't me."
"Xia Tan, I won't kill you."
Xia Tan kept crying uncontrollably, unable to suppress their longing for this embrace, they simply buried themselves in it, weeping to the point of collapse.
"Guabao has suffered a great injustice."
Jin Chen lowered his head, lightly kissing the corner of Xia Tan's eyes, mumbling, "But he's dead, don't be afraid."
Xia Tan's choked-off sob stopped; before they could ponder Jin Chen's words, they suddenly sensed a human aura intruding, their dark pupils gloomily fixed on the door, as if they could see through it.
Jin Chen also noticed, glanced toward the main living room, and lightly patted Xia Tan's back, "It's fine, I'll go check."
Watching Jin Chen's retreating back, Xia Tan, at a loss, furrowed their brow and lifted the blanket.
——
The one who rang the doorbell could be called an uninvited guest.
Besides Qian Xiaoqin and Zhou Liu, who had just parted from Jin Chen less than four hours ago, there was also the male lead Jin Su, and two masters heading the occult field.
"Master Xie, Master Sun."
Zhou Liu knew Jin Chen didn't really know them, and whispered a reminder.
Jin Chen casually blocked the doorway, the ghost king's yin qi spreading, extremely dangerous.
"What brings you here?"
They keenly sensed the hostility; at that moment, Qian Xiaoqin and Zhou Liu immediately exchanged glances, then looked at the other three, it being obvious that Jin Chen's hostility was directed at them.
Master Xie spoke first: "We have received the agreement you signed; originally we should have let you live peacefully in human society."
"But unfortunately, this afternoon we suddenly received a report from the Jin family's descendants, suspecting you of refining humans into ghosts."
As soon as that was said, before Zhou Liu and the other could help him explain, Jin Chen glanced at Jin Su with indifference, gave a short laugh, and said, "Really?"
The resentful spirit had returned less than half a day ago, not even stepping outside, yet the male lead knows this so clearly.
Jin Su still looked like someone plotting strategies behind the scenes, even having the leisure to smile back at Jin Chen, completely the picture of having victory in hand.
"Signing the agreement is not easy; Ghost King, why don't you let us go in and take a look?"
"If this is true, with the Jin family taking the lead, I'm afraid the entire metaphysical realm will oppose Jin Chen again."
Qian Xiaoqin rolled her eyes, thinking it impossible; just a few days ago she had helped Xia Tan pass purple qi—how could she suddenly become a ferocious ghost? It's simply the most absurd suspicion.
But soon, Qian Xiaoqin was startled when Xia Tan suddenly appeared behind Jin Chen, staring at her gloomily.
Zhou Li reacted even faster than she did.
"My goodness! A ghost!"
Zhou Li immediately wanted to draw her magic implement, but for Jin Chen's sake she forcibly restrained herself.
"It's not—brother you…"
"How did your wife suddenly turn into a ghost!"
"Even the Ghost King shouldn't be like this!"
Xia Tan's attention was focused on only one person.
"Jin Su."
The extra memory surfacing in his mind told Xia Tan that this ghost hunter before him, the so-called boyfriend of his good friend, was the mastermind who lured the evil ghost to kill him.
Xia Tan's body overflowed with an endless, silent yin energy; he suddenly charged at him, but was intercepted midway by another force, and the next second Jin Chen embraced him in his arms.
"Do you want to kill him?" Jin Chen asked, casually wrapping an arm around Xia Tan's waist, his voice low and indulgent.
"Kill him."
Xia Tan spoke hoarsely, gripping Jin Chen's collar with his fingertips, his gaze almost bluntly fixed on Jin Chen's brows and eyes: "It was he who killed me."
"Fine."
Jin Chen seemed oblivious to the two sorcerers drawing their magic implements; he nonchalantly pressed Xia Tan's swollen lip, saying, "Be good, I'll help you."
