Chapter 1928: After the Rewind, Love You Again 03
The wolf howl from not far away interrupted their argument.
After all, the Blackening Value wasn't too high, so Ji Luo didn't want to risk her own life as well.
She still planned to kill Jin Chen for revenge, then go somewhere outside the Empire to make a comeback.
Jin Chen noticed Ji Luo's subtle change in expression, immediately slipped the silver needle silently into his sleeve, and sincerely said: "Let's call a truce; we'll talk after finishing the mission."
Ji Luo glared at him, then reluctantly settled down.
The wolf howls grew closer, Jin Chen found a bush where he could hide and crouched waiting, and then he heard Ji Luo's faint voice.
"Who will kill the Wolf King?"
Jin Chen: "... Me?"
Who would give me a second choice?
Ji Luo glanced at him, looking puzzled: "You don't even have a weapon."
Jin Chen's expression turned serious: "I can do it."
A big shot can't admit he can't do it.
Quick battle, quick decision!
Three seconds later, after standing up, Jin Chen, under Ji Luo's look that he was crazy, crouched down again and then fell into silence.
Looking closely, there was still a hint of shock deep in his pupils.
He was genuinely fucking shocked.
【Where is my Spiritual Power!】
【Oh dear! I forgot to tell you, this is a holographic game based in the small world, controlled only by brainwaves and not a real body, so……】
Ling Gun Gun fidgeted: 【In the game, you can't use your primal Spiritual Power, and the system shop can't be opened, but I believe in your strength! You can definitely do it!】
【……】
Jin Chen seriously suspected that Zero Egg wanted to change masters.
This is practically a murderous move.
In the blink of an eye, the snow wolf pack, taller than a person, gradually approached, their claws sharp, letting out low growls.
The saliva that fell to the ground instantly corroded the plants, making a sizzling sound that was extremely harsh.
They were very hard to deal with.
Jin Chen's expression turned somewhat cold, not expecting the arrogant original self to have left weapons in the light-brain space, he quietly asked Ji Luo: "Do you have a knife?"
Ji Luo stared in surprise at the man whose aura had obviously changed, hesitated two seconds before nodding, gritted his teeth and threw him a dagger.
It's not too late to kill after I get down safely.
In the game, the snow wolves are huge; just by naked eye you can barely tell which is the Wolf King, so Jin Chen could only keep going deeper into the pack, striking ruthlessly, and where his blade passed, lines of blood burst forth.
Snow wolves kept falling; the blade tip plunged into the heart and pulled out, a heart larger than a human head—Jin Chen said he'd scoop it out and he did.
Ji Luo, witnessing all this: "……"
Something seemed off.
This phoenix-man deadbeat, when did he become so formidable?
As more snow wolves fell, Jin Chen quickly realized their shifting attack formations were all protecting the wolf at the very center.
Jin Chen nimbly stepped onto the backs of the snow wolves on the outskirts, tearing and biting continuously, his breathing unchanged, his expression intimidating.
The rampaging Snow Wolf King was struck in the throat by the short blade, crashed to the ground, its sticky blood soaking the fur, and its heart was hollowed out.
Jin Chen licked his dry lips, raised his hand to aim the heart at the light-brain wristband, but out of the corner of his eye he saw Ji Luo still dazed in the bushes, and he paused.
"Holy shit, what are you trying to do?"
Ji Luo was startled by Jin Chen suddenly walking over; the black long needle shot out with a cold gleam, but he saw Jin Chen merely handing over the still-beating heart, his sharply defined face in the swaying tree shadows gradually losing its ferocity.
"Here." Jin Chen said.
Once you take the Wolf King's heart, you can't covet mine!
After a moment of silence, Ji Luo took the heart, lowered his head, and aimed it at the wristband.
Hope team's first-day collection list:
Jin Chen, Ji Luo: Snow Wolf King Heart (1/1)
Ji Luo saw that the accumulated points on his interface needed to be higher.
When exactly did this person change his ways?
She kept muttering to herself, the restless killing intent slightly reined in.
【Detected villain Ji Luo's Blackening Value -5, total now 80!】
Jin Chen had never felt this voice to be so heavenly.
"I'm going to look for Ruan Fu; you go back to the wooden house first."
Ji Luo reacted, immediately having the thought: "Is Ruan Fu the boyfriend you talked about before?"
Jin Chen gave a fake smile: "You'd better not have any ideas about him."
"Oh, you still care about Ruan Fu, you utter scoundrel deadbeat actually have sincerity." Ji Luo sounded like he'd heard some Arabian night tale.
"No, you can't beat him." Jin Chen sincerely advised.
If you die, the mission fails.
Annoying.
Ji Luo: "……"
——
Jin Chen followed the map to the shrub thicket, didn't rush to help, first observed the situation from the shadows.
This mission still has other teams; there are many shrub trees, but it's obvious that the one deep inside, completely covered, is the shrub monster, its body full of sticky juice, with vines flying everywhere.
There is only one true branch.
Recalling what the game mission said—that an incomplete team would be punished—Jin Chen turned his gaze to Yun Zaozao and Ruan Fu.
Ruan Fu seemed to sense something, glancing over toward the corner; her narrow, cold eyes narrowed slightly, revealing suspicion and killing intent.
Seeing that he had been discovered, Jin Chen simply stopped hiding; just as he rose and walked toward Ruan Fu, out of the corner of his eye he saw a vine bristling with thorns lash fiercely at Yun Zaozao.
"Yun Zaozao! Behind you!"
When Yun Zaozao heard the shout, the whistling wind from the lashing vine immediately sliced past his ears, and his pupils contracted sharply.
The next second, however, he saw that the vine, covered in poisonous thorns, had been cut off, and a pushing force came to his shoulder.
Yun Zaozao fell to the ground, avoiding the potentially lethal vine, but his palm was still sliced open by a thorn, the flesh turned outward.
Jin Chen stood at his side, lowered his head and took a look.
He won't die, will he?
Yun Zaozao clearly read that meaning from his eyes; the gaze behind his glasses flashed with annoyance: "You're the one who'll die!"
"Hey you… come on, get up quickly, this place is dangerous."
Jin Chen swallowed half of what he was about to say.
For the sake of his precarious Blackening Value.
Yun Zaozao took a deep breath, endured the pain and stood up, gripping his dagger tightly: "Why did you save me?"
Jin Chen tried to let him see his sincerity: "I feel guilty."
Yun Zaozao: "..."
Outside the vine's damage radius, Ruan Fu leaned against the tree trunk, watching this scene; her gloomy eyes grew colder, her fingertips rubbing the blade tip.
Back when he and Jin Chen were together, he had seen this scene many times before.
Jin Chen always had many close female friends around him, and he truly had the talent to coax people.
And yet, the foolishly oblivious version of himself from before would believe the nonsense that he would love only you in this lifetime, leading to a crushing defeat and nearly losing his life.
Ruan Fu suddenly straightened her body slightly, her damp, cold gaze fixed on the approaching Jin Chen, her low voice suffused with killing intent.
"What are you doing?"
"See if you're hurt."
Jin Chen pretended not to see the hatred so intense it was almost tangible, even stepping closer and reaching out to brush away the fallen leaf on Ruan Fu's shoulder.
A leaf stained with poison.
Ruan Fu noticed nothing; she frowned involuntarily, glancing unnoticed at the shrub monsters still being dealt with by other squads.
But this was obviously not the point for him.
At the fifth second of Jin Chen's approach, Ruan Fu could bear it no longer, raising her dagger with the tip pointed straight at his heart.
In the flash of lightning and stone, Jin Chen sensed the danger.
He grabbed Ruan Fu's knife‑wielding hand, using little force, and said mockingly: "Now is not the time to kill."
Having endured a disaster, Ruan Fu had become very thin, yet her combat power far surpassed before; she almost instantly broke free of Jin Chen's restraint.
The dagger landed on Jin Chen's neck.
"Why isn't it appropriate?" Ruan Fu's voice was icy, like a snake spitting venom, her narrow eyes squinting slightly.
"Do you have any last words?"
Jin Chen: "I love you."
The blade halted.
