Chapter 2134: Harvest Farm's Magical Daily Life 05
Lin Mian finished planting and stood up, suddenly noticing a few delicate green leaves had fallen into Jin Chen's hair.
He instinctively reached to pick them, but when his fingertips touched the hair strands he realized the gesture seemed somewhat inappropriate.
Jin Chen, however, happened to lower his head slightly, allowing him to pluck them; his green eyes shimmered with tiny specks of sunlight, and the curve of his lips was almost imperceptible.
The sun seemed bigger, Lin Mian thought, feeling a bit hot.
He brushed away the tiny green leaves that had fallen into Jin Chen's hair, "All done."
"I'm thirsty." Jin Chen took off Lin Mian's glove, "Let's go make lemonade to drink."
"Hmm... how about making mint honey water today? I froze some strawberries last night."
Lin Mian spoke while picking up the kettle, pouring the spring water mixed with magical seed dew into the vegetable field.
"We need to water thoroughly." He said, with icy droplets condensing on the kettle's wall, "Radish seeds are delicate; they can't be exposed to harsh sun for the first three days."
"You don't need to do the watering, Zero Egg."
"Whoa!"
Ling Gun Gun poked its head out.
The next moment its mouth was forced to bite the kettle.
"Come water, then you'll get to eat." Jin Chen patted its butt, "Go."
"Whoa..."
Ling Gun Gun dashed off, and after watering it went to refill on its own.
Lin Mian tugged at Jin Chen's sleeve.
Jin Chen lowered his eyes, "Sleepy?"
Lin Mian's eyes flickered, smiling as he said, "You still remember its name."
Jin Chen fell silent.
Jin Chen urgently tried to think of an excuse.
"All right, let's go inside to rest."
Lin Mian chuckled, leisurely.
Jin Chen let out a breath of relief.
Upon second thought, eh, it seemed his wife had figured it out.
Jin Chen hurriedly followed, pushing his luck: "Sleepy, I want strawberry juice."
Weeding was a physical task for the black cat.
But seeing Ling Gun Gun working so hard, the cat felt ashamed to idle, gnashing its sharp teeth as it dug in earnest.
After Lin Mian and Jin Chen went inside, Ling Gun Gun and the black cat exchanged a glance, seeing the same meaning in each other's eyes.
Half a minute later.
Colorful magic fluttered in the vegetable garden.
Ling Gun Gun lounged on the loofah trellis, nibbling a cucumber, while the watering kettle hovered, watering each plant in turn.
The black cat darted through the flowerbeds and grass at a speed invisible to the naked eye; wherever it passed, weeds did not grow, leaving everything neat and tidy.
Magic, truly a wonderful thing for farming. The black and white alike sighed in admiration.
——
Naptime was probably a custom at Harvest Farm; even the black cat, which never napped, got sleepy at the appointed time and lay down beside Ling Gun Gun.
Summer daylight stretched long, perfect for napping; the afternoon sun lazily showered the farm's flowerbeds, and even the shadows under the trees seemed lazy.
Jin Chen moved the bamboo chair beside Lin Mian, and upon waking he smelled the fresh fragrance of melon.
The black and white ones were already crouched beside Lin Mian's feet, begging cutely for food.
"This portion isn't to be snatched; it's saved for Jin Chen." Lin Mian hadn't noticed Jin Chen approaching, and based on his recent understanding of the magical human's appetite, he deliberately picked the largest melon.
He split the melon in half, and the two little ones ate together.
The largest melon was cut in half, the flesh scooped out and diced, then mixed with chilled yogurt and placed back into the melon bowl with ice cubes.
Then sprinkled with chopped mint leaves and a drop of magical seed dew.
"Smells great." Jin Chen inhaled the sweet fragrance of the melon, his tone pleased.
"Eh, you're awake."
Lin Mian handed the melon to him, somewhat expectant, "Try a bite."
Jin Chen tasted a piece of flesh; the cool, refreshing sweetness burst in his mouth, and his peach-blossom eyes brightened slightly.
"Delicious," Jin Chen casually used his fork to push a piece of melon toward Lin Mian's lips.
Lin Mian's eyelid twitched; looking up, he saw the verdant depths of Jin Chen's eyes brimming with eagerness—this magical human seemed unaware of anything.
But for him, who likes men, it was rather intimate.
"Sleepy." Jin Chen furrowed his brows, a hint of sorrow appearing between his eyes and brows, "Why aren't you eating? Do you dislike me?"
Under the table, Ling Gun Gun turned around, presenting its rear to Jin Chen, and ate with audible grunts.
Here it comes again, the familiar fresh-and-light tea routine.
Lin Mian's heart stirred slightly; he opened his mouth and bit off a piece of flesh, then turned his head slightly aside.
"... All right, I don't dislike you." He softened his voice, sounding very gentle.
"Thank you for liking me; I like you too."
Jin Chen responded with delight.
Lin Mian: "……"
Lin Mian somewhat wanted to hit Jin Chen's head with a pestle.
He wiped his hands, picked up his own melon to eat; the ears hidden beneath his hair were slightly reddish, as if sun‑kissed, and altogether quite handsome.
Thanks to the two little ones' extraordinary performance, the afternoon's work wasn't so busy.
Jin Chen squatted beside a clump of wisteria, trimming branches and leaves; his fingertips suddenly paused. After the flowerbed was cleaned, a narrow path faintly appeared in the tangled gaps of the vines.
He reached out and gently brushed aside the drooping branches; scattered light filtered in like gold foil, and a few half-withered rose leaves rustled onto his shoulders.
"Kun Kun" he turned his head and called to Lin Mian, who was watering, "There seems to be more land behind the flowerbed."
Lin Mian trotted over holding a copper kettle; the brim of his straw hat left a light red mark on his nose bridge, and as he bent over, the tips of his hair carried the sun-warmed scent of soap pod.
"Land? Isn't there a field behind the flowerbed?" he wondered, looking in that direction.
Jin Chen stood up, and together they looked outside; beyond the fence was a field.
But when they squatted down and pushed aside the vines, there really was a small path.
"Maybe..."
Jin Chen swallowed the magic, "A miraculous path."
Lin Mian's fingertip followed the tangled vines' texture downward, revealing an opening through which one could enter.
Passing through the path, the scent of rotting leaves and moss was suddenly split by the wind, and before them a row of wooden houses appeared, where several butterflies with pale blue wings fluttered.
The freshly turned soil before the wooden houses glittered as if dusted with gold powder; beside the fence curled a clump of fluffy spirit grass, its leaves trembling as if humming to the wind.
Even Jin Chen was surprised.
"What a rich natural aura."
Even in today's elf-different world, it's rare to see such pure natural magic.
As if sensing someone's approach, the oak mailbox before the wooden house swung open, and a yellowed envelope fell out, slightly brittle from the sun.
Lin Mian was startled by all this, letting Jin Chen pull him toward the envelope.
Jin Chen glanced at it, then handed it to Lin Mian, "It's something Mother left behind."
Lin Mian came to his senses, hastily opened the envelope, and as he did, a few dried petals fluttered out.
He read word by word the secret his mother had buried, his eyelashes casting a trembling shadow.
"Ms. Lin Yao said, this is another gift she left for me."
Most of the letter consisted of concern and advice for Lin Mian.
Only the last paragraph mentioned that this is the farm's miraculous crop zone, where seeds gifted by the elves—or used as lodging fees—can be planted; after the fruit matures, the soil automatically recovers, needing no tilling but requiring daily irrigation of dew.
Only at this moment did Lin Mian finally feel it real.
About the world of elves.
His mother was a very brave explorer, both when she was at the farm and now.
