Chapter 2156: Abundant Harvest Farm's Wonderful Daily Life 27
The farm restaurant's business grew prosperous day by day; compared to the quarterly fruit and vegetable shipments, the daily takings finally gave Lin Mian's ledger a noticeable surplus.
Satisfied, the farm owner specially bought an indigo‑blue pouch embroidered with vine patterns in town, stuffed it with silver and gold coins exchanged from the elves, and gave it to Jin Chen as a red envelope.
At the elves' spontaneously held "victory feast," several jars of the morning‑dew wine brewed by the magic mushroom elves were drunk dry.
Lin Mian held up a half cup of wine, chasing Jin Chen to make him drink; in her staggering, the liquor splashed all over her collar, leaving a dark wet stain.
Jin Chen pinched his drunken nose tip, helpless.
"What are you doing, Lin Kun Kun, using wine to give me a bath?"
Lin Mian simply buried her face in that damp spot of Jin Chen's neck, where warm tears and cold wine seeped together into the fabric.
Jin Chen startled, lifted his flushed cheek, and through tear‑filled eyes saw the shimmering, wavering moonlight.
"Why are you crying?"
Lin Mian's cheeks flushed, her hot nose rubbing against his neck like a spoiled kitten sniffing mint leaves.
As she spoke, even her breath carried the sweet‑bitter tang of the morning‑dew wine; she unconsciously acted coy and sticky, then slapped his face with her palm.
"I want to talk to you."
"I've saved up a lot to say; tonight I must finish it all."
Jin Chen shifted his hold, affectionately replying, "Mm, I'm listening."
"Actually, I've known about Lady Lin Yao for a long time… my mother is very mysterious; I hardly have any impression of my father, and when I grew a bit older, Lady Lin Yao told me she was going to look for my dad, to a place I might never be able to find them."
Lin Mian's words were tangled, yet she clung to her closest dependence; when Jin Chen wiped the tear from her chin, she couldn't help but lean in for a kiss.
He then went on, saying many more things in fragments.
Until he spoke of the farm.
"In the letter she left me, she said this place is where she and my father fell in love, it was their first home, I… I thought I must guard this farm well."
"It's already very good now," Jin Chen said softly.
"But she doesn't know… you," Lin Mian hiccuped, "you're not allowed to leave either."
"I'm actually really scared… scared you'll vanish like my dad did, scared I won't be able to keep the farm, scared I'm not worthy of being a Divine Envoy…"
"I'm right here," Jin Chen wrapped his trembling body, not knowing how the topic came back to this, when suddenly he saw Lin Mian struggle to her feet, stagger over to the wooden box at the table corner, and clatter out a pile of silver coins and bank deposit slips, thrusting them into his arms like an offering: "Take it all! The elves' silver coins, human banknotes."
Completely lacking her former calm composure, she now seemed much more childish.
The elves' chatter halted, all stunned by Lin Mian's grand, generous gesture.
Heaven knows this human Divine Envoy is actually quite stingy.
Jin Chen laughed and cried at once, holding the struggling Lin Mian as he glanced at Ling Gun Gun.
"Ah."
Ling Gun Gun understood tacitly, rallying the elves to move elsewhere to keep the party going, and incidentally snatched away the bard who tried to stay behind to sing love songs.
Lin Mian, however, misinterpreted the pause, lunged forward to bite his lips, the alcohol mingling with salty tears: "If you dare disappear, I'll come after you and overturn the whole forest! Anyway, anyway I've learned to mix an antidote—I can save the land or destroy it…"
"No wonder you're the descendant of a warrior," Jin Chen praised with a smile.
Lin Mian's threatening words were swallowed into a lingering kiss.
Jin Chen gripped the back of his head, letting the little drunkard shove him onto the grass with brute force, his hair sticking with leaves and dew.
Lin Mian straddled his waist, grabbed the vines and wound them around his wrist, tying a clumsy knot that looped several times, then leaned in to rub his brow with her nose, her warm, moist breath like a spoiled cub's.
"You're tied up by me, your heart's racing… mine is too."
Jin Chen lowered his head to lightly kiss the cheek he'd brought close, with no intention of letting go, and teasingly murmured, "Mm, I'm bound by you, impressive, Lin Kun Kun."
"Mm…"
Lin Mian curled back into Jin Chen's embrace as the after‑kick of the morning‑dew wine rose; she clung to his neck, tilted her head up to accept the kiss until her lips went sour and numb, then buried herself in his arms and lay still.
Jin Chen had been teased to distraction; in the end his hands were bound, his drunken wife lay in his arms, and silver coins littered the ground.
Even Jin Chen couldn't help finding it funny.
He held her, laughing a few times, then untied the vines, rose, and in the moonlight lifted Lin Mian into his arms.
Tonight's moon was a long‑awaited, pure silver moon without any impurity.
The gift Jin Chen had prepared wasn't even close to being ready in time.
All he could do was wait until tomorrow when his wife woke up, so she could discover it herself.
In the dim, shifting light, a deep‑green shadow fell upon Lin Mian.
"The contract is sealed," Jin Chen whispered after finishing the contract spell, murmuring to the sleeping person, his fingertip tracing the elf oath totem on Lin Mian's palm, "With my life as witness."
