Chapter 2165: The Amazing Daily Life of Bountiful Harvest Farm 36
This story that took place in the Divine Tree was written into Keluoni's latest bard's anthology.
Under the witness of the elves, Jin Chen and Lin Mian completed their bond in the elf world.
Afterward, they began their own journey in another world.
In the forest shrouded in morning mist, Jin Chen and Lin Mian walked side by side.
The moss underfoot had soaked up the dew, and each step gave a faint rustling sound.
Ling Gun Gun followed slowly behind, playing to his heart's content, occasionally stopping to sniff the bushes laden with berries.
Lin Mian's cloth bag was stuffed with parchment scrolls, each recording the elves' orally told stories, as well as a variety of colorful seeds.
Some were as fine as rice grains, some were covered in fluff, and some gleamed like wheat grains in the sunlight.
These were the special seeds they had gathered in the forest, intended to be brought back and planted on the farm.
Today's errand was to go to the goblin's currency exchange shop to trade for gold and silver coins.
The goblin shop was hidden in the crack between two giant trees, its door curtain made of stitched-together dry snake skins that rustled whenever the wind blew.
Behind the counter, the old goblin narrowed his murky yellow eyes, his sharp fingernails fiddling with the weights on the scale.
"Three purple-spotted vine seeds for twenty silver coins."
He tossed the seeds into the clay jar, when suddenly a lizard's head poked out from the mouth, its scarlet tongue flicking out and snatching one seed with a "whoosh".
Lin Mian jumped back half a step in shock, but Jin Chen, quick-eyed and quick-handed, pressed the lizard back into the jar; a green glow flashed from his fingertips, and the lizard instantly curled into a rigid stone statue.
"Add five silver coins as compensation."
The old goblin tapped the counter without changing his expression.
Lin Mian was about to argue, but Jin Chen pushed over two bags of glowing mushrooms, saying, "Use these to offset."
The mushrooms glowed a faint blue in the dim shop, the goblin's pupils contracted to slits, and his throat let out a greedy gurgling sound.
In the end they exchanged for two heavy bags of coins, and Jin Chen grabbed a few gold coins to feed Ling Gun Gun.
"Don't eat so much random junk off the ground," he said, rubbing Ling Gun Gun's ear bases in admonishment.
"Ow~"
Ling Gun Gun contentedly chewed the gold coins.
——
The farewell with the bard took place by a stream beneath a certain tree in the forest.
He always had to set off for different places.
Keluoni's strings were damp with night dew; a casual pluck produced a clear, trembling tone as he played a farewell tune for the two friends.
He pulled out a yellowed piece of parchment from his pack, its edges still stained with dried wine.
"Whenever you reach a relay station, write to me; we'll stay in touch by letters, so remember to often check the wooden house mailbox."
He blinked and added, "But don't count on timely delivery—I often fall asleep halfway through writing in the tavern."
Lin Mian stuffed some lavender honey biscuits and the forest-made jam he had prepared into his instrument case.
Jin Chen thought for a moment, then slipped a few silver coins into Keluoni's hand.
"At least write the ending; last time that story stopped at the climax with no follow‑up, and if you keep doing that I won't read it." Lin Mian said.
Although the bard's story was truly wonderful.
"Whoa~ good!" Keluoni plucked out a comical high note.
Ling Gun Gun was suddenly startled, and while silently washing his clean paws he slapped them toward the water surface; the splashing water startled the sparrows in the bushes into flight.
Ling Gun Gun, angry, lunged at Keluoni.
Only when the morning sun dyed the treetops red did the bard sling his mottled instrument case, its surface etched with hurried place names and arrows; the freshest ink marks, twisted and askew, pointed toward a border far distant from both the farm and the forest.
"Goodbye! Remember to pass my regards to Tala!" he said, waving as he walked into the morning mist.
——
Half a year later, Lin Mian and Jin Chen decided to return home.
They had come empty‑handed, but on the return journey their packs were loaded with many bags of seeds and gifts.
At the border, a white light flashed.
The farm came into view.
Lin Yao was standing on the granary roof, waving a pitchfork as golden wheat grains poured down like a waterfall.
Lin Guangming's white robe was tucked into his belt as he held a bottle to feed the newly raised lambs, while a rabbit elf stood nearby stealing sips.
Tala and Shiyan were jointly erecting a new fence; the farm's animals grew more numerous, and the vegetable garden gained a few more plots.
In the distance, the cheerful shouts of visitors to the garden restaurant could faintly be heard.
Lin Mian was a little surprised, thinking, "No wonder the former Bountiful Harvest Farm was known throughout the village."
It turned out that, in the hands of those unreliable parents, it was this grand and lively.
Seeing them, Lin Yao vaulted down from the roof by propping himself on the clothes‑drying pole; landing, his pitchfork struck the wheat stack precisely, startling a flock of sparrows into a frantic flutter.
"Finally back!" she exclaimed, roughly ruffling Lin Mian's hair, her fingertips still stained with wheat husks, "Didn't those elders swindle you out of even your underwear?"
"No, I've been very happy these past six months." Lin Mian said.
Jin Chen silently opened his money pouch; Ling Gun Gun gave his snowy white fur a shake at just the right moment, and gold coins clinked and rolled across the ground before being shoved into his mouth to chew.
"Welcome back!!" the rabbit sprang three feet high.
After returning to the farm, the newly built greenhouse became Lin Mian's exclusive domain.
He sorted the otherworldly seeds into jars, drawing pictures on the labels: healing-effect dandelions, light‑emitting nightshade plants, tuber vegetables whose skins were covered in star‑spots…
Jin Chen often held a stack of account books while staying with him; sometimes, while looking at the ledger, he would fall asleep in the wicker chair, his eyelashes casting tiny shadows on his cheeks.
One evening, while Lin Mian stole a kiss on Jin Chen's mouth as he dozed in the wicker chair, the spirit‑leaf chrysanthemum seeds suddenly popped open in the jar, their spores drifting through the greenhouse like fireflies.
The two fumbled to close the windows, nearly knocking over the newly sprouted seedlings.
They're too sensitive, they just just burst open when I'm not paying attention. Lin Mian squatted among the broken pottery shards, rescuing the tender sprouts.
Jin Chen suddenly chuckled: "Kun Kun also always just steals a kiss when I'm not paying attention."
Lin Mian turned to look at them, righteously and boldly moved in to kiss their cheek, "I didn't steal a kiss."
——
Now that Lin Mian has returned, Lin Yao and Lin Guangming are finally setting off on their journey.
On the day that couple left, the farm saw its first snow.
Lin Guangming gave the Light Wizard's silver chain to Lin Mian.
This time I won't forget again, Father promised you, I will definitely come back to see you often.
Lin Yao took the heavy sword in hand, switched back to the warrior's armor, and the sword hilt was wrapped with the wheat-spool knot Lin Mian braided.
Whoever dares to bully my son, remember to tell Old Mother, draw your sword and cut him down!
Lin Mian: "……"
Modern society, Mom, I have Jin Chen, I will also call the police.
Hmm… also, come back often. Lin Mian pursed their lips and said.
Good! Lin Yao patted their son's thin shoulders.
The warrior and the Light Elf returned to the forest again, and their story continues.
Time passed, year after year.
The following midsummer, the farm held its first new-brew wine tasting festival, again inviting the elf friends they had met in the forest.
Lin Mian decorated the invitation with scales sent by Kroni, which are said to come from the dragon race.
With prior experience, this festival was even grander, and they also invited the human friends they had met in the village.
After the festival came the long-prepared wedding.
Lin Yao and their spouse insisted on bringing five elders to the farm to celebrate; Kroni hurried back riding a unicorn, carrying a music box, brought back the best wedding officiant found after crossing three elf tribes, and upon meeting, they immediately hit it off with Terra, reminiscing.
On the wedding night, countless fireflies rose from the grass, and when the wind blew they fell like the Milky Way descending to the earth.
The covenant stone glowed with a soft light on their clasped hands.
