Chapter 2459: Another Me 28

~7 min read 1,323 words

Police quickly examined the report provided by Li Chi; the hospital seal and doctor's signature were very convincing.

They then looked at the several foreign doctors, "Who are you? What are you doing here?"

The foreign doctors felt uneasy under the police's stern gaze; they did not want to be implicated in accusations of illegal restraint of personal liberty.

One of them hurriedly explained in not very fluent Chinese, "We, we are hired by Ms. Lin Wan……private medical consultants, merely here to provide……evaluation opinions……"!

The police sternly looked at Lin Wan, "Ms. Lin, your son's diagnosis report shows his mental condition is normal."

"You brought these foreigners here, trying to forcibly take him away—do you have legal procedures, did you have his consent?"

Lin Wan was left speechless.

She looked at Li Chi standing beside the police, feeling a deep sense of helplessness for the first time.

Li Donglai stood in the corner, looking at Li Chi with a complex expression, even unable to tell which personality this was.

The Li Chi he once knew was not like this.

The experienced-looking officer continued to Lin Wan, "Without solid evidence or the person's consent, one cannot forcibly take someone for so-called treatment."

Lin Wan still tried to go around the police to pull Li Chi's arm, anxious, "Xiao Chi, listen to Mother, Mother is doing this for your own good……"

Li Chi didn't give her a chance to finish.

He stepped back half a step, hiding behind the police, lowering his head slightly.

Lin Wan couldn't save face, finally gritted her teeth and gave Li Chi a fierce glare, shouting lowly.

"You'll ruin yourself like this!"

She then waved at the doctor beside her and hurried away with her entourage.

Li Chi lifted his head, catching Li Donglai turning and leaving; that hint of disappointment was seen by him, as if he hadn't seen the expected exciting show.

Li Chi's brow twitched imperceptibly.

Li Donglai seemed to have come specially to watch his bustle, to see him earn the label of a madman.

How could this be acceptable?

The police added a few more words, saying that if such harassment occurs again, report it immediately.

Li Chi came to, nodded quietly, appearing very obedient, "Thank you, officer."

Returning to the quiet apartment, sunlight streamed through the glass window onto the Living Room coffee table; Li Chi stopped by the coffee table, his gaze falling on the fruit knife, and he stared at it silently for a few seconds.

Moments later, Li Chi lowered his eyelids, the corners of his mouth turning up ever so slightly.

He needed to send Li Donglai inside, to reunite well with Li Fendou in prison, as repayment for the "favor" his family had given him over the years.

He took out his phone, found in the contacts the name marked as Lawyer Zhang.

That was the lawyer Jin Chen had found for Li Fendou when the police first took him in for investigation; he was very efficient.

Li Chi sent a message over.

Lawyer Zhang, hello. I have a legal question I'd like to ask: for attempted murder, will one be sentenced?

In distant Hu Shi, Jin Chen received the message forwarded by Lawyer Zhang.

He sprang up from the hospital bed in an instant.

Oh no.

The orderly, forcibly brought in by Jin Ge to assist, retreated a few steps warily; the tall man nearly two meters high remained fully alert.

The reason was simple: this Second Young Master, even after waking from a six-month coma, was still skilled in combat.

"Second Young Master, you……"

"Come over."

Jin Chen patted the bed, "I want to ask you something about my older brother."

The orderly relaxed a breath, stepped closer, "What……"

His neck was struck with a knife hand, the big man collapsed straight out, Jin Chen withdrew his hand, quickly rose and shoved him under the covers.

Without waiting for the cheap older brother to accept, he had to rush to Jing Shi.

Even the wife wanted to risk herself!

Jin Chen left the ward in his hospital gown, and as soon as he turned around he met the nurse making rounds, both staring at each other.

The nurse peered into the door crack, puzzled, but Jin Chen pressed her shoulder and turned her around.

"Don't look, where's my older brother?"

The nurse, dazed, instinctively said, "Second Young Master, President Jin said he'd come see you later……where are you going?"

Before she finished speaking, Jin Chen had vanished; the nurse chased after his back but couldn't catch up.

The next morning, Jing Shi.

The sunlight carried a faint warmth, but the air already carried a cool breeze.

Li Chi went out alone for the first time.

He didn't call for bodyguards, just like an ordinary young student wearing a hoodie, hands in pockets, walking aimlessly along the sidewalk.

Shops lined both sides of the street, their glass display windows reflecting sunlight and passersby.

Li Chi's pace wasn't fast, even a bit leisurely.

As he passed the floor-to-ceiling window of a chain coffee shop, his gaze inadvertently swept diagonally backward.

Sure enough, it was Li Donglai.

He couldn't even be bothered to recognize that face; the mere thief-like posture was enough.

Li Chi turned a corner without a word, entering a relatively quieter street.

After walking a few more minutes, he stopped at the entrance of a Western-style light meal place that looked sparsely patronized.

Li Chi chose the innermost corner seat, beside which stood a tall areca palm in a pot, its lush fronds able to shield half his body.

Li Chi lowered his head to look at the menu, his finger unconsciously tapping the cover, paying attention to the movement at the door.

A few minutes later, Lai Donglai came over, took a look around, confirmed he didn't see any bodyguard's shadow, and quickly walked in.

"What do you want from me?" Lai Chi looked at him.

Lai Donglai sat down directly opposite him, bumped the table, causing the lemon water on it to tremble slightly.

He pulled off his baseball cap and threw it on the table, revealing a face full of anger and defeat.

This restaurant's decor isn't great, but he hasn't been to a place like this in a long time.

In the past, following Lai Fendou, they lived well; now they have to budget this little money to get by, with mother in the hospital sometimes crying, sometimes laughing; father in detention awaiting sentencing; brother locked in his room all day playing games, not even coming out to eat.

Their formerly comfortable life has been turned upside down.

Going from extravagance to frugality is hard; the huge gap has already pushed Lai Donglai to the brink of collapse.

Zhou Shuo's attitude has also become increasingly cold and distant.

All of this is Lai Chi's fault.

He glared at Lai Chi's face, gritted his teeth, and said, "Aren't you pleased with yourself?"

Lai Chi didn't speak.

"You turned our family into this—aren't you pleased! Speak up! Have you gone mute again?"

Lai Donglai raised his voice, drawing a glance from a neighboring table.

Lai Chi lowered his eyes, his gaze falling on the faint water stains on the tabletop.

"Lai Donglai, you forgot, huh?" he said softly.

"This is what your family ought to have been…… oh, I forgot."

Lai Chi seemed to suddenly remember something, and lifted his eyes to look at Lai Donglai.

"If it weren't for my father, you wouldn't even be here."

"So……"

He leaned forward slightly, "I'm just taking back what's mine—what's there to be pleased about?"

One second, two seconds……

Lai Chi calmly looked at Lai Donglai's eyes as they instantly filled with red blood vessels, his breathing becoming heavy.

After all, he is Lai Fendou's son; Lai Qiang is already violent and hard to control, so Lai Donglai will be even worse—he just hid it well before.
