Chapter 255: Infinite Stream: Saving the Crazy Beautiful 14

~7 min read 1,287 words

The older generation places particular importance on their own and their family's funeral rites after death, yet everyone in the village actually feels there's nothing wrong with the sacrificial ceremony taking place.

Even though the sacrificial offerings are humans.

Jin Chen heard their suggestion, tightened his wrist slightly, and pulled Nanyu a bit closer.

If the plot cannot be changed, those villagers would still have Nanyu go as the sacrifice; at least then I could stay by his side.

The blue-clothed elder who first made the suggestion glanced over the faces of the several outsiders, his eyes meeting Hexian's; his pupils shrank slightly, and he held the gaze for a few seconds before looking away.

He immediately pointed at Nanyu and said, "It's you!"

Jin Chen's eyes shifted slightly, he stepped in front of Nanyu, and said in a cold, stern tone, "Either I go with him, or you pick someone else."

"The sacrifice can only be one person…"

"Clan elder!"

Before the blue-clothed elder could finish speaking, a youngster ran over and whispered a few words in his ear.

His attitude changed immediately.

"Fine! Two is also good."

The elder's smile on his face was fickle, his eyes sticky and disgusting.

Nanyu rolled his eyes, just about to strike, but Jin Chen stopped him, and under the pretense of brushing away his hair, also whispered something in his ear.

"Perhaps the sacrifice holds a clue."

He blinked, walked back to his spot, and nodded obediently.

Zhaoling looked at the two with some worry and asked, "Are you really going?"

Jin Chen nodded, "All the strange things currently happening in this village are inseparable from the sacrifice; perhaps the core clue lies there."

He had a good impression of this decisive and brave girl, so he quietly reminded her without showing any emotion.

"Be careful of Hexian; avoid making eye contact with him."

Zhaoling stared blankly, glanced at Jin Chen and Nanyu, gave a slight nod, and said, "Okay, thanks; you need to come out as soon as possible."

After thinking, she took out two thumb-sized earbuds and handed one to Nanyu.

"This is a communication device I exchanged for with points; as long as we remain in the same Instance, we can stay in touch."

Nanyu smiled as he took it, "Okay, thanks."

The three's conversation was quiet and secret, unheard by the others; when they turned around, they saw two men, fully equipped, following behind the elder, though it was unclear when they had gotten ready.

The men stood one on the left and one on the right, facing Jin Chen and the other, and tied ropes around them.

Several other people brought over oddly shaped empty coffins.

Nanyu let them tie him up, stared intently at the coffin that wasn't very large, and for some unknown reason his smile suddenly became more fervent.

The man tying his rope, upon seeing this expression, blushed slightly.

Suddenly, something tripped his foot, almost making him fall; when he looked closely, there was nothing, only a faint golden light that seemed like an eye-flash.

The man scratched his head, looked at Nanyu again, and let out a soft sigh of regret.

"Place the offering into the coffin!"

The blue-clothed elder shouted.

Jin Chen suddenly turned his head, his eyes widening in astonishment; this voice was the same as the male shout in the illusionary scene.

Both were lifted into the coffin; because their hands were bound behind their backs, it was hard to struggle under everyone's gaze, and they both remained silent in unison.

Hexian stood not far away; a faint gleam flashed in his eyes, revealing a hint of a smile.

The coffin was lifted, and everyone again tried to lift Awa Lao Si's coffin; this time it rose easily.

Awa Gu was overjoyed, thinking to himself, "As expected."

The two coffins went up the mountain together.

However, because this time the sacrifice had to be taken up the mountain, the villagers did not follow behind; only the coffin-bearers and Awa Lao Si's relatives and descendants remained.

But not long after the coffins began ascending the mountain, the villagers who had just descended to the mid-slope suddenly saw a black gust of wind blow across ahead.

Accompanied by a teenager's loud shout, the scene descended into chaos.

——

The coffin jolted for an unknown amount of time before finally coming to a stop.

Following that came a sensation of weightlessness; outside, there was a flurry of activity before they departed.

After Jin Chen confirmed there was no sound, he immediately untied the rope binding him from behind; he had intended to untie Nanyu's rope as well, but suddenly someone appeared in his embrace.

"What's wrong?" Jin Chen asked.

"This is really good."

Nanyu felt genuine joy, clinging tightly to Jin Chen's chest, "Dying here isn't so bad, right?"

Jin Chen: "……?"

Although he didn't really understand his wife's thought process, he still gave a reassuring kiss on her cheek, "Let's clear the Instance first, then talk."

"Okay, okay."

Nanyu leaned against his embrace, lifted his long leg and kicked sideways, and with just one strike he kicked the coffin lid open.

"This place is……"

Jin Chen saw the outside scene, immediately stood up from the coffin, and stepped out.

All he saw was the surrounding trees dark and gloomy, occasional fierce winds sweeping past; as they passed through the encircling giant stones, they emitted eerie sounds.

Countless coffins were suspended from vines and hemp ropes on the sturdy ancient trees, while theirs had been thrown into a deep pit, with other coffins tightly covered around it.

Some incomprehensible runes were written around the edges of the pit.

Jin Chen pressed his palm against the pit's four walls; the runes, written in blood, had seeped into the soil, and because the place was damp and dark, the ground did not solidify but retained a slight wetness, a sticky texture.

He lifted his gaze to look beyond the pit; to figure things out and find clues, he first needed to get out of this pit.

In the blink of an eye, I saw Nanyu still squatting in the coffin, his hands crossed and resting on the edge, propping his chin, curiously and excitedly scanning the surroundings; seeing him look over, he immediately opened his arms, the meaning obvious without words.

Jin Chen approached helplessly, lifted the person out of the coffin, brushed off the dust clinging to his body, and said, "We need to get out first; the soil here is soaked with blood and covered in runes—it's unclean."

"Oh wow, it's so high—how can we climb up?"

Nanyu raised his eyes to look at the edge of the pit; after just a few steps observing the terrain, he stepped on many white bones, muttering about his sore foot while clasping his hands together and apologizing repeatedly.

After checking several spots unsuitable for climbing or jumping up, his Eyeball suddenly rolled, he crossed his arms and looked at Jin Chen, "You know such powerful spellcraft—you should be able to fly too, right? Right? Right?"

"Hmm."

Jin Chen raised an eyebrow, "Then it depends on how that person bribes me."

"Then I don't care," Nanyu said without hesitation, trotting back to Jin Chen's side, clinging like an octopus, planting a smacking kiss on his face, and holding on tight.

"If you abandon me, I'm doomed!"

Jin Chen gave a light cough, patted his arm, and said, "Relax, you're almost strangling me to death—is murdering one's husband trendy now?"

Not knowing which word pleased Nanyu, he laughed heartily, rubbing his cheek.

Jin Chen carried the person flying out of the pit; what met their eyes left both of them slightly stunned.
