Chapter 2603: Magical Creatures in the Zoo 10

~7 min read 1,233 words

Zhenyang Zoo recently added new members, a pair of gray‑purple brothers from deep within Zhenyang Mountain.

One is a gray wolf with intermixed gray‑black fur, and the other is a purple marten; their respective names are Gray Blade and Flash Shadow.

These brothers have an extraordinary background; they belong to extremely precious protected animals.

Initially discovered by staff of the Forestry Department during a mountain patrol, out of protection for rare species, they were first sent to a larger, more advanced zoo in the neighboring city.

However, these two brothers have tempers stranger than the other, their wildness is hard to tame, and their combat strength is outrageously strong.

The neighboring zoo tried to keep them separately, but that night the gray wolf Gray Blade somehow managed to pick the cage's hidden lock, successfully escaped, causing an uproar in the zoo grounds, and even nearly bit the senior keeper who tried to soothe it.

That large zoo is not lacking in national first‑class animal stars.

Taking one look at these two, they're practically ancestral figures being sent back; they immediately said the temple is too small to enshrine such a great Buddha, and it would be more appropriate to send them back to their native place near Zhenyang Mountain, and Zhenyang Wildlife Park is undoubtedly the best choice for reception.

Xiao Bai Rendong is not failing to notice that the other side is just tossing a hot potato over.

But faced with this obvious mess, he also couldn't refuse.

After all, Zhenyang Zoo's positioning originally includes the function of sheltering and rescuing local wildlife.

In the morning, after coordinating with the Forestry Bureau and the other zoo's staff, with great difficulty the wolf and marten were temporarily settled into the reinforced wolf enclosure isolation pens, and Xiao Bai Rendong then dragged his slightly weary steps back to the dormitory bedroom.

Xiao Bai Rendong first washed up thoroughly, took off the outer clothes stained with unfamiliar animal scent, and then felt somewhat relieved.

Opening the bedroom door, the weariness between his brows and eyes instantly turned into a soft warmth upon seeing the scene on the bed.

Jin Chen had actually been awake for a while, lying on the soft pile of blankets, idly playing with the tassels on the pillow's edge with his paws.

Upon seeing Xiao Bai Rendong return, the little white lion immediately lifted its head, let out a soft whimper, and stretched out its forepaws to hug.

Xiao Bai Rendong walked over with a smile, and the little white lion skillfully jumped into his arms, rubbed its fluffy forepaws against its face, then rested on Xiao Bai Rendong's shoulder, lazily stretched out a big yawn, and used its wet nose to nudge Xiao Bai Rendong's chin.

"Good morning, Bao Bao." Xiao Bai Rendong said softly, holding the little white lion as he sat on the bedside, his back comfortably leaning against the headboard.

He stroked the little white lion's warm belly, then suddenly recalled something: "By the way, this morning an unexplained sum of money appeared in my private account."

He had never imagined he would say such a thing to an animal before.

But the sender's name on that transfer was truly bizarre—it read "Your Sweetheart." He tried to trace the source, yet found the account information completely blank.

This made Xiao Bai Rendong think a lot, even worrying somewhat whether it was some new kind of fraud or prank.

After a moment's hesitation, he still decided to tell the little lion in his arms, which seemed capable of anything.

And the little white lion, completely unaware of what tricks the system Ling Gun Gun had played on the account name, responded innocently with a whimper upon hearing this.

He hadn't originally intended to hide it from his wife either, so he obediently lay in Xiao Bai Rendong's warm embrace, letting out a low growl, while a youthful voice sounded in Xiao Bai Rendong's mind.

"It's my reward."

Xiao Bai Rendong: "What reward?"

"When the animals acknowledge me as their boss, there are rewards."

The little white lion explained, tone tinged with a bit of pride: "The rewards will go to the zoo, and also to me… and Xiao Bai Xiao Bai together."

He originally wanted to say "together with my wife."

But seeing the current little arms and legs of this cub, he decided it would be better to wait until he could transform into human form to pursue his wife, and for now he used a more affectionate nickname instead.

He hadn't expected this explanation; Xiao Bai Rendong's brows and eyes softened, his gaze at the little white lion filled with emotion.

He lowered his head, gently rubbing his nose against the little white lion's pink, moist nose tip, his voice so soft it could drip water: "So that's how it is… thank you, Bao Bao."

How could Xiao Bai Rendong refuse? This isn't a bad thing; on the contrary, it further shows that this magical little lion genuinely wants to stay by his side and run the zoo together with him.

"Then what do I need to do for you?" Xiao Bai Rendong asked.

He of course knows that getting all the temperamental animals in the zoo to acknowledge this little brat as boss is no easy feat.

But the little lion earnestly shook its head and lifted its tiny skull.

The youthful tone sounded unusually serious and solemn.

"So do you want to hug me now?"

Compared to recruiting underlings and earning rewards, at this moment the hug seems, in the little white lion's view, to be the most important thing.

Too adorable, this earnest pose asking for a hug.

Xiao Bai Rendong's heart blossomed, and he immediately replied: "Of course!"

Saying that, he laid the little white lion from his arms onto the soft bed, letting it lie face up, then he buried himself in it, happily sucking and rubbing against that soft, warm belly.

The little white lion lazily and comfortably narrowed its golden beast eyes, its four paws happily opening and curling, then simply grabbed Xiao Bai Rendong's head with both paws, using its still-weak soft paw tips to intermittently hook and play with his soft hair.

After the human and lion had played around for a good while, the little white lion finally felt hungry.

The cub's body, heading toward growth, consumes enormous energy.

It cried out from hunger, and Xiao Bai Rendong, feeling sorry for it, picked it up again to enjoy another serving of warm basin milk.

Jin Chen ate while calculating in his mind.

Next meal he must have meat; just drinking milk really isn't enough to fill the gaps between his teeth.

Having eaten and drunk his fill, the little white lion contentedly belched, then lingered in Xiao Bai Rendong's arms, dozing off for a while before going back to sleep.

After resting enough, the energetic little white lion crawled out from the soft blanket, shaking its fluffy fur.

Xiao Bai Rendong was sitting in the single sofa by the window reading a book on animal behavior, when the little lion jumped onto the sofa armrest and tapped his shoulder with its tiny paws.

"Xiao Bai Xiao Bai, let's go," the youthful voice said energetically, "go tame that newly arrived gray‑purple pair."

Xiao Bai Rendong couldn't help but laugh, closed the book, and gently replied: "All right."
