Chapter 264: Infinite Flow: Saving the Mad Beauty 23
On the wooden door panel, a strand of extremely concealed black energy had been left there at some unknown time, and it shot out suddenly when the talisman paper loosened.
Jin Chen used Spiritual Power to intercept, but he was just a moment too late, and the cabinet door opened accordingly.
He came face to face with that strange Buddha statue.
At that moment, the Buddha statue's third eye opened; Jin Chen felt something was wrong, quickly turned his gaze away, sat up, and picked up the dagger placed at the bedside.
But the Buddha statue moved unhurriedly, crawling straight onto the bed, as if it hadn't seen him at all, and showed no panic at the incoming dagger, its bronze body easily blocking it.
Even so, it still had no intention of counterattacking Jin Chen; its narrowed Buddha eyes stared fixedly at Nanyu, who was still asleep on the bed.
The Buddha statue's target was Nanyu.
Realizing this possibility, Jin Chen's probing thoughts instantly turned into killing intent; he stopped holding back and suddenly increased his attack.
Nanyu was also awakened by the noise, instinctively called out "Jin Chen", and the next second opened his eyes to see an ugly Buddha head staring at him.
He let out an "oh yo", quickly sat up, and exclaimed, "What ugly thing!"
"A-Nan, its target is you; my attacks have no effect on it—perhaps it's the instance's setting."
Jin Chen's voice sounded somewhat troubled.
Seeing Nanyu wake up, the Buddha statue's grin widened further; it leapt onto the bed with extreme agility, its five claws forming hooks as it lunged at him.
"Ugly freak!"
Nanyu shouted again, drawing his Crimson Blood Dagger; his movements were extremely fast, actually matching the Buddha statue, a monster of the instance.
As a top-three player on the individual rankings, his strength was naturally not to be underestimated.
After just a few exchanges, Nanyu found the Buddha statue's opening.
The third eye!
"Jin Chen! Stab that snake eye blind!"
Nanyu restrained the Buddha statue and shouted.
The next second, the short blade flew out; during the fight, Nanyu caused the Buddha statue to shift its posture, exposing its life gate, and it was solidly stabbed in the eye.
Consequently, its bronze body had no effect; the short blade's thrust made a hissing sound, as if piercing a human eye.
"Hey, three-eyed ugly freak!"
Nanyu fought while cursing; after breaking the third eye, his Crimson Blood Blade actually ignored the bronze body's defense, stabbing the Buddha statue into a mess full of holes.
No matter how injured it became—even if it was almost a sieve—the Buddha statue never lost its combat ability, like a puppet that only knows how to attack.
"Oh yo, how tenacious your vitality is! You're like a little cockroach of the ghost realm!"
Nanyu took the opportunity to shake his slightly sore wrist; suddenly his vision flickered, and in the silent night, the eerie light and shadow playing on the Buddha statue's body became even more apparent.
Jin Chen saw this and slightly furrowed his brow.
As the Buddha statue prepared to launch its next wave of attack, a girl's crying suddenly rang out from outside the window.
I had thought it would be another troublesome monster, but who would have expected that upon hearing this sound, the Buddha statue instantly resembled a beaten dog, covering its already severed ears and retreating back into the cabinet.
It was very afraid of the crying outside the window.
Nanyu turned his eyes and immediately opened the window to check.
Worried something might happen to him, Jin Chen shielded him from behind.
But there was no trace of the girl; a mist had risen in the village at some unknown time, and despite the two having excellent vision, they only saw a small figure quickly disappearing into the distance.
Nanyu scratched his head and said, "Is she here to help us?"
"No way; if that were true, how would that someone have died on the first night?"
"Perhaps they are suppressing each other, and it has nothing to do with us." Nanyu added, closing the window, "What do you think?"
Jin Chen actually agreed with this idea; he pulled Nanyu into an embrace and lay down again, musing: "From what I can see now, the female ghosts inside the Shadow Tower and the tavern auntie, as well as the group of clan elders from Qing Shan Village, are in an opposing relationship."
"Even though they were once villagers of Qing Shan Village."
Nanyu rubbed against him in his embrace, his tone languid.
"The opposition between the sacrificial offerings and those who hold the execution authority."
"Are you feeling better?" Jin Chen did not continue the topic, lowering his head to lightly kiss Nanyu's lips as he asked.
"Much better." Nanyu yawned again, wiped away the tears welling at the corners of his eyes, buried himself in his neck, and said, "I just get sleepy easily."
"Maybe your bodily functions are repairing themselves; go to sleep, it's still early before dawn."
Jin Chen pulled the covers back over them; this time, to be safe, he directly set up a barrier on the bed so that no movement or sound would disturb them.
This also counted as a good night's sleep.
——
The next morning.
After a night's sleep, and with Jin Chen's Spiritual Power nourishing him, Nanyu's mental and physical condition had improved considerably.
Upon stepping outside, he saw Baiyi greeting him with two dark circles under his eyes.
"Oh yo, did you go fight last night?"
Nanyu asked him curiously, extending two index fingers to point at his own under-eye area for comparison, "The dark circles are so heavy."
"Last night I... heard noises coming from your room."
Baiyi patted his chest in lingering fear, "I thought... something had happened."
"I was too scared to sleep."
Jin Chen glanced at him and asked, "Did your cabinet make noise last night?"
"No." Baiyi shook his head.
"Let's hurry and go rescue Zhaoling!"
"But I'm really hungry." Nanyu muttered, patting his stomach, "Thanks for the trouble."
After saying that, he glanced at Jin Chen with a sideways look.
The latter chuckled, lightly scratching his perky nose with a finger, "Got it, I'll go make you something to eat now."
"Okay." Nanyu hugged his arm tightly, puckered his lips and kissed him.
Watching their interaction, Baiyi silently raised his hand, "Breakfast, can I have some?"
Jin Chen nodded, then glanced at him again.
Still just simple coarse tea and bland rice, Jin Chen noticed the ingredients were running low, maybe the Instance only had seven days' worth of food.
After the three finished eating, they headed to Awagu's home as Uncle Li had said the night before.
Along the way, one used to be able to vaguely see a few villagers, but today they saw none, and the silence was somewhat eerie.
"Strange, could they all have gone to Awagu's home?"
Nanyu looked left and right, but really didn't see a single person.
After walking a while longer, as they neared Awagu's home, they finally saw a person—the villager who had previously blocked their path; seeing him again, they received the clan elder's signal and were not bothered.
Instead, Nanyu found it strange and took the initiative to ask.
"Uncle, why do you dress so… solemnly for the wedding?"
He looked up and down at the villagers' black and gray clothes, even noticing a white flower pinned to their chests.
"A wedding at noon and dusk naturally calls for proper attire."
The uncles broke into smiles, then regained their calm expressions and approached the courtyard of Awagu's home.
"What does 'noon and dusk' mean?"
Nanyu rubbed Jin Chen's palm, "Can these two times occur at the same time?"
"Just go in and you'll find out," Baiyi said.
"Mm, let's go in."
Jin Chen took Nanyu's hand and walked inside.
