Chapter 2670: Rain in South City Tonight 32

~6 min read 1,022 words

Late night, Rain Island Bar.

Jin Chen stood before the main mixing station, making drinks for several regulars who had pre‑booked top‑ups, inevitably drawing a lot of attention from around.

Although the bar had been open for a while, those who confessed to him kept failing, and everyone gradually accepted the boss's aloofness, finally achieving an uneasy peace.

Ren Xian walked into the bar and saw exactly this scene.

From this angle, Jin Chen appeared surrounded, his whole person seeming stern, lax, like an unpolished blade with fierce aggression.

Ren Xian sat in a booth not far from the mixing station, propping his chin with interest, his gaze following Jin Chen's figure for a while.

Huo Feng passed by with a drink in hand, saw him, stopped and asked casually, "Why are you here again?"

Ren Xian lifted his eyes, showing a half‑smile, "We're open for business—how could we not welcome customers?"

Huo Feng shrugged, not wanting to get involved in his good brother's love tangle, and quickly slipped away.

Their conversation was also noticed by the bar's regulars; as the uke protagonist, Ren Xian's looks were naturally outstanding, and his overly familiar gaze at Jin Chen made several people who had heard the rumor that the boss was taken suddenly feel they'd gotten fresh, hot gossip.

Unable to contain their curiosity, someone sidled up to Ren Xian and probed, "You wouldn't be Boss Jin's boyfriend, would you?"

Ren Xian watched Jin Chen temporarily leave the mixing station and head toward the backstage, feeling a bit sorry he couldn't drink a cocktail personally made by him right now.

Hearing the question, he instantly laughed, leaned lazily against the sofa's back, propped his chin, and countered, "How so? Do I look like a good match for him?"

"Not a good match."

A cold voice sounded before the booth's patrons.

Jin Chen emerged from the side corridor, glanced at Ren Xian whose face showed no embarrassment, then turned to the curious customers and said, "My boyfriend isn't here."

The few who had asked were terribly embarrassed, apologizing repeatedly and quickly scattering.

Only then did Ren Xian slowly straighten up, smile at Jin Chen, and say, "What a pity—I almost let them get the wrong idea."

He toned down the joking expression, "But I came to see you today for a genuine matter."

Ren Xian waved the small silver USB drive in his hand, "I know you haven't given up on the idea of completely sending Xie Shao away; I have something here that might settle it once and for all."

Jin Chen indeed had not abandoned that plan.

Even though Xie Linzhou had said he'd stop obsessing over revenge, given Xie Shao's nature, there's no guarantee he won't cause trouble again someday.

Xie Linzhou can't withstand any further unexpected blows.

Jin Chen lowered his eyes, thought for a moment, and said briefly, "Let's talk upstairs."

The upstairs lounge.

Jin Chen entered, went straight to sit on the single sofa, opened his notebook, and Ren Xian followed in, closing the door behind him.

Jin Chen sneered, "You really can't keep a secret—anyone's the same."

Ren Xian heard the sarcasm in his words, didn't mind much, and instead smiled, "I'll take it as you praising my usefulness, but…"

He shifted his tone, gave Jin Chen a meaningful look, and said, "As for you, I might not be unable to keep a secret."

Jin Chen pretended not to hear, opened a folder on the computer, and turned the screen toward Ren Xian.

"Look at this first."

Ren Xian glanced at the screen offhandedly; after a few seconds, his smile froze and his face gradually darkened.

What appeared on the screen was something capable of directly bankrupting his holdings.

Ren Xian shed all joking expression, and an inexplicable chill crept up his spine.

At that moment, he likewise realized that Jin Chen truly isn't something just anyone can hold onto.

In such a situation, this man could actually utter despair‑inducing words in such a flat tone.

Jin Chen withdrew his gaze, "I've said it before—don't come provoke me."

Ren Xian: "……"

Jin Chen picked up the USB drive, played with it between his fingers, and asked, "What compensation do you want?"

Ren Xian twitched the corner of his mouth, having readied a line to smoothly suggest a date, but it rolled around in his throat and he just couldn't get it out.

He switched to a more practical demand, "I don't want to make things hard for you; I just need a clear guarantee that you won't target my club again."

But deep down he was still unwilling.

Ren Xian looked at Jin Chen, trying to read something in his eyes, but only felt like seeing flowers through fog.

He couldn't help but ask, "Given Xie Linzhou's nature—he can't tolerate even a speck of sand in his eye—what are the odds of you two getting back together? Since you've already split, why not try someone else?"

Ren Xian leaned forward slightly, trying to close the distance, his tone ambiguous between seduction and persuasion.

"Am I not good to you? … I actually met you before he did."

This wasn't the first time he'd shown affection to Jin Chen; whether it was the somewhat decadent, gloomy teenager years ago or today's aloof, outstanding man, he seemed stingy about giving any emotional response to anyone.

Ren Xian could never understand why it had to be Xie Linzhou and no one else.

"Do you think you really understand him?" Jin Chen said in a cold tone, leaning back to create distance.

"Do you think you really understand me?"

Outside the door, a cold voice sounded at the same time as Jin Chen's words.

The lounge door was pushed open; Xie Linzhou stood in the doorway, his gaze stern as he looked at Ren Xian.

Huo Feng, who had brought them upstairs, poked half his head out from behind Xie Linzhou, clicked his tongue and exclaimed, "Wow, this place is lively! Alright, I'll make room for you—guarantee no one will disturb you."

Having said that, he very neatly shut the door tightly.
