Chapter 2697: The City Lord's Crazy Rules of Love and Killing 20
Several ghostly figures in vivid red cloaks appeared silently, clearing the road; immediately after, a scarlet sedan chair was carried by eight ghost generals, moving slowly forward, the gauze draping around the sedan fluttering without wind.
The City Lord arrived in person; seeing this, all the ghosts—whether stall vendors or wandering guests—lowered their heads.
Five handsome young lord ghosts, carefully selected by the Left Protector, had already been waiting aside, each strikingly handsome and dressed splendidly.
Jin Chen's group blended into the ghost crowd, hiding behind a stall selling unknown eerie objects.
Jin Chen raised an eyebrow, watching as the red sedan halted; the gauze was lifted by a slender hand, and Yin Chaosheng stepped out slowly, lazily sweeping his gaze over the bowed ghosts below, aloof and indifferent.
As his gaze swept over them, the ghosts lowered their heads further, none daring to meet his eyes.
Fu Lingjing also looked up with the crowd; a single glance left him as if his soul had been seized, frozen in place, stunned.
He had never seen such a face, blending ultimate beauty with ultimate chill, as if all colors in heaven and earth paled before him, not even a ten-thousandth of this fierce ghost.
〖Yin Chaosheng, Ghost City Lord. 〗Immortal's timely prompt sounded, 〖He is recruiting close attendants; a rare opportunity—step forward and recommend yourself. 〗
Fu Lingjing's mind and spirit were greatly shaken: 〖But… but he is ultimately a fierce ghost, I am merely a living person…〗
〖Don't put on airs before this Immortal, 〗 the Immortal sneered, 〖Do as I say. 〗
Fu Lingjing: "……"
Having his thoughts exposed, a flicker of embarrassment crossed his face, but his heart pounded uncontrollably, excitement and eager anticipation surging within.
Seeing Yin Chaosheng lazily sizing up the five young lord ghosts, he steeled himself, took a deep breath, and stepped forward through the crowd.
Fu Lingjing stepped before the ghosts, bowed to the lofty Yin Chaosheng with a mix of admiration and humility: "City Lord, your grace is unmatched; I, Fu Lingjing, feel drawn to you, volunteer to serve at your side, and would not refuse even at the cost of ten thousand deaths."
The Zhao Tian and Zhao Di brothers stared dumbfounded, not understanding why Fu Lingjing suddenly did this.
Zang Huaian instinctively glanced at the disguised Jin Chen beside him, somewhat amused, "Brother Jin, what do you think?"
Jin Chen's gaze fell on Yin Chaosheng; hearing this, he coldly said, "He's not good-looking."
Zang Huaian barely held back a laugh, quickly composing his face, and exchanged a glance with Liu Shuoyue, whose lips likewise twitched.
Liu Shuoyue covered her mouth with her hand, "Brother Jin, your words… carry a hint of sour jealousy."
On the platform, Yin Chaosheng glanced over Fu Lingjing, then unintentionally swept past a spot behind him in the ghost crowd, his brows suddenly knitting as his gaze locked onto the ordinary face of the disguised Jin Chen.
In the instant their eyes met, Jin Chen was the first to look away.
Yin Chaosheng's scarlet pupils narrowed, a dark, inscrutable light flashing in their depths.
He paid no heed to Fu Lingjing's fervent confession, his trailing red robe like flowing blood as he slowly descended the steps, heading toward Fu Lingjing—or rather, toward the direction behind him.
As he approached, the suffocating aura of the ghost king washed over him.
Fu Lingjing's breath hitched; his whole body was engulfed by the terrifying aura, his mind went blank, he could only stare blankly, barely able to move his eyes.
Chu Jiu Shan glanced at the icy aura, the City Lord approaching step by step, then stole a look at his senior brother's inscrutable profile, unable to resist moving closer to Jin Chen to whisper, "Senior brother, take it easy—who hasn't racked up a few romantic debts?"
What and what!
Jin Chen nearly laughed out loud, but managed to suppress it in time.
By then, Yin Chaosheng had stopped just a step before Fu Lingjing; his icy gaze swept over Chu Jiu Shan like a blade, the latter instantly falling silent and shrinking his neck.
Immediately, Yin Chaosheng raised his hand, lifted it lightly, forcing Fu Lingjing to tilt his head back, as if bound by an invisible force, almost violently.
"Do you wish to serve me?" Yin Chaosheng's voice low and hoarse.
Fu Lingjing's Adam's apple rolled, he gazed at his face entranced, voice tight: "Yes……."
Yin Chaosheng's lips curled in a smile-not-smile, he lightly instructed the Left Protector behind him, "Bring this one… along as well."
The Left Protector responded, stepping forward to take Fu Lingjing away.
As he passed Jin Chen, Jin Chen glanced at him, causing the Left Protector to feel an inexplicable chill surge from his feet to his head, as if something terribly frightening had fixed its gaze on him.
The Left Protector jumped in alarm, frantically looking around, finding nothing, so he hurried his steps, dragging Fu Lingjing, who still looked back at Yin Chaosheng, away.
How strange! Why do I feel that the killing god is still nearby!
Yin Chaosheng glanced lightly at the ordinary face of the disguised Jin Chen, lingered a moment, said nothing, and turned to leave.
The five selected young lord ghosts immediately swarmed forward, trying to curry favor.
Before they could reach him, Yin Chaosheng caught sight of Jin Chen picking up a vivid red silk ribbon from some miscellaneous-goods ghost vendor.
Jin Chen lowered his eyes, his bangs obscuring his expression, leisurely winding the ribbon around his slender fingers, gripping the other end and giving it a casual tug.
He pulled it tight.
Yin Chaosheng's pupils contracted sharply, his breath hitched, he nearly lost composure on the spot.
He steadied himself, heart surging with shock and anger, and sat back into the red sedan without looking back, the curtains falling to shut out all sight.
The ghost generals lifted the sedan, disappearing into the market's end amid a throng of red cloaks.
Jin Chen watched the sedan recede, a faint, unnoticed smile curling his lips, he undid the red silk ribbon from his fingertips and casually slipped it into his sleeve.
"The spectacle is over; let's go, back to the inn to rest."
City Lord's Manor.
Yin Chaosheng returned to the cold main hall, dismissing all attendants.
He sat on the throne, fingertips unconsciously tapping the armrest; the hall's dim, cold candlelight reflected his extraordinarily beautiful, gloomy profile.
One night passed, the sky grew dim.
The dawn of Ghost City is forever laden with death's aura.
Yin Chaosheng waited in vain through the night.
That damned, reckless mad dog!
He had clearly returned to Ghost City, even standing in this very market, giving him that hateful look, yet dared to provoke him in that way!
But he… actually didn't come back!
He didn't, as before, naturally break into his chambers.
Bang!!
The jade stone tea table was overturned by the terrifying ghostly aura, cups and teapot shattered to pieces.
Yin Chaosheng stood up, his whole body's yin-cold qi surging violently, "You really dare, you actually dare not come back to see this venerable one!"
He paced gloomily in the empty great hall, summoning his personal ghost attendant, "Go, convey this venerable one's order: those few ghosts at the East City Ke Zhan, being today's selected attendant companions, summon them to the manor to feast together with this venerable one..."
He wants to see just how long that sneaky mad dog can hold out!
