Chapter 2766: The Online Game Guru's 'Straight' Roommate 06

~6 min read 1,127 words

On the other side, Cheng Lang had just finalized his graduation project with his instructor, and he and Xu Can came out of the office.

The two stood by the window of the second-floor corridor, waiting for the crowded flow of people below to pass.

Xu Can kept chattering about his internship unit, and Cheng Lang occasionally exchanged a few words with him.

The mix of rain and snow cast a gray filter over the sky and visibility, the ground was wet, and the multicolored umbrellas popped open like mushrooms, hurrying along.

It's strange, but amid that jumble of colors, Cheng Lang instantly caught sight of that patch of white.

Jin Chen walked out from under the eaves without an umbrella, head slightly lowered, as if watching the ground to avoid puddles, inexplicably exuding a pitiful vibe.

Cheng Lang clicked his tongue inwardly, feeling a bit off—this kid had reminded him that morning to dress warmly for the drop in temperature, yet he himself ended up fine, not even bringing an umbrella.

The rain doesn't look heavy, but getting soaked for too long would definitely be a problem.

"What are you looking at?" Xu Can came over, followed his line of sight and scanned for a while—nothing but umbrellas and silhouettes—"Any pretty girls?"

Cheng Lang withdrew his gaze, lifted his foot and headed for the stairs: "I need to go down first."

"Hey? Wait for me!" Xu Can hurried to catch up.

The two hurried down to the first floor, and Cheng Lang stopped again at the doorway.

This time Xu Can followed his gaze and looked over.

Through the drizzling rain curtain, a handsome guy in a white down jacket, sheltered under a light pink umbrella, was intercepted by a nicely dressed girl who seemed to be saying something.

"Whoa," Xu Can whistled after getting a clear look, "Do you know that girl?"

"Not that girl," Cheng Lang chuckled, "It's that handsome guy—the new roommate I told you about yesterday, a junior from the Finance Department."

Cheng Lang watched that side; the rain had grown denser than before. He saw Jin Chen shake his head at the girl, say something, her smile fading as she held up her umbrella and hurried away alone, leaving Jin Chen standing at the edge of the eaves, gazing at the intensifying rain, his brows slightly furrowed.

"Well, missed the peach blossom," Xu Can commented.

Cheng Lang furrowed his brows, opened his long-handled umbrella, and strode into the rain curtain.

Xu Can let out an "eh," then hurriedly opened his umbrella and followed.

Jin Chen was looking at the sky's reflection in a puddle on the ground, silently counting down in his mind.

Three seconds left, a pair of legs in dark work pants stepped into his view and stopped in front of him.

He seemed to only then notice someone approaching, and lifted his head.

Their eyes met, and Cheng Lang saw Jin Chen's peach-blossom eyes instantly brighten, like a glimmer of light breaking through the overcast sky.

"Senior," Jin Chen called out in a light tone.

Cheng Lang made a sound, tilted his umbrella largely toward Jin Chen, and smiled: "That girl actually wanted to walk with you—why are you still out here getting soaked?"

He was joking, and also glanced at Jin Chen's slightly damp hair tips and shoulders.

Jin Chen lowered his lashes: "Not familiar, not great—but having you here, senior, is perfect."

His hair was indeed a bit wet, the black strands at his forehead and temples sticking to his skin, making his complexion look even paler.

Cheng Lang reached out, his dry palm pressing on Jin Chen's head: "All right, let's go—you don't have class anymore, right?"

"Mm, none." Jin Chen nodded, looking at Cheng Lang's behind Xu Can: "This senior is nice."

"Hey, hello hello!" Xu Can was struck by his good looks, hurriedly greeting: "I've heard Langzi mention you—your name is Jin Chen, right? Indeed, fame doesn't measure up to meeting in person; Langzi's luck is amazing—even in a shared rental he can snag a handsome guy."

The three walked together toward the campus exit.

Xu Can lives in the dorms; midway he turned toward the cafeteria, waving goodbye.

The rain grew heavier; Cheng Lang loosely put his arm around Jin Chen's shoulder, pulling him slightly toward himself, almost half-embracing him.

"This rain isn't light—don't get soaked." He spoke, and his warm breath brushed past Jin Chen's ear.

This posture was really too intimate—even more inseparable than a simple hug—causing Jin Chen, who intended to take things slow, to freeze for a moment.

【Such concern from a straight guy, really over the top.】Ling Gun Gun chuckled.

Jin Chen: "……"

Cheng Lang owns an ordinary commuter car; he usually thought nothing of it when driving alone, but after Jin Chen had ridden in the passenger seat a few times, he inexplicably felt the car had gained a bit of style.

Jin Chen got into the car and fastened his seatbelt.

Cheng Lang pulled out a few tissues and handed them over: "Wipe your hair again, don't catch a cold."

While starting the car, he looked ahead and carefully entered the wet traffic.

Jin Chen took the tissues and slowly wiped his hair tips, seemingly offhandedly asking, "That senior just now—are you close friends?"

"Yeah," Cheng Lang answered offhandedly, flicking the turn signal, "His name is Xu Can, and we're pretty tight."

Jin Chen: "Then can I also be friends with you, senior?"

That question… brought that soft spot in Cheng Lang's heart welling up again.

Look, this junior over here has no connections; wanting to make a friend, he asks so cautiously.

He chuckled, reached out to pat Jin Chen's shoulder when he had a moment: "Sure, aren't we already that? Roommate plus friend—double identity!"

"But you don't have any friends at this school? You're a sophomore—shouldn't you be popular with your qualities?"

Jin Chen slowly turned his head toward Cheng Lang, his peach-blossom eyes slightly curved, appearing harmless and handsome.

He drew out his tone, each word landing in Cheng Lang's ear:

"None."

Pause.

Then, Jin Chen's voice soft: "But now I have you."

Cheng Lang's heart felt as if it had been hit by a soft cotton ball.

Those words sounded……so……

He couldn't find the right adjective for a moment, only feeling that surge of protectiveness and responsibility instantly swelling to the brim.

Cheng Lang cleared his throat: "All right! From now on, big bro's got you covered! Friends are a must!"

Jin Chen didn't speak further, just gave a soft hum, turned his gaze back to the window, and the corner of his mouth curled up in that hazy, rain‑kissed light.
