Chapter 283: The Imperial General Was Again Forcibly Flirted With 11
Since that day's outing, after being spotted by Third Legion scouts, Jin Chen strengthened control over all areas outside his villa upon returning home; anyone wishing to enter must verify their identity.
Joyce observed his action and had received several reports, but she turned a blind eye.
Jin Chen ignored the outside commotion, daily staying home to accompany Alex in his treatment and rehab; their feelings gradually warmed thanks to his shamelessness, and the Heartbeat Value rose to 30.
But they both knew the Third Legion and the Imperial Royal Family would not let it go so easily, so they kept waiting for the snake to leave its den.
Finally, on the eighth day after returning from the flower market, Jin Chen received new intelligence.
He immediately shared it with Alex.
"Steven secretly brought people into the Federal Main Star and met with Zuo Zhu this morning."
"That's faster than I imagined." Alex sat upright on the sofa, his tone cold upon hearing it.
"Don't worry, they can't get in."
Jin Chen made a gesture, saying, "Now not even a fly can fly into the house."
Alex looked at him helplessly, "I also have no intention of going out on my own; I don't know how many people are waiting for me to go out on the Federal Main Star."
"Then it's even more dangerous; you'd better stay obediently by my side."
Jin Chen asked again, "What do you plan to do now? Stay put or take the initiative?"
"Stay put."
Alex lowered his head and tapped his fingertips on the virtual screen.
Since the last time in the study, Brocade City had installed a jump supernet hub in the villa district, allowing Alex to connect to the God Empire Supernet at any time, making communication with others much easier.
"I have two former subordinates hidden in Steven's infiltration team this time; they need to come meet me."
He reported to Jin Chen, "Can you let them in?"
"That probably won't work here; they lack federal identification and can't be recognized." Jin Chen thought, "But I can take you to a safe place to talk in detail."
"Thanks." Alex ended the communication and gave him a faint smile.
"Mm-hmm."
Jin Chen seemed displeased, leaning in and saying, "Actual action."
"……Jin Chen, watch your boundaries." Alex said helplessly.
"I have no boundaries." He replied like that, leaning in to kiss him, scooping Alex up from the sofa like holding a doll into his arms.
"You've gotten thinner these days; just looking at you makes my heart ache." Jin Chen muttered, pinching his arm.
"We must break before we can build; all this is preparation for detoxification."
Alex himself didn't really mind; he didn't struggle to get out of the embrace, as if he'd grown accustomed to it over these days.
If there's anything he's not used to, it's perhaps that as his body wastes away, his strength and spirit are fading even more.
During many rehab sessions, he felt utterly despairing; what kept him going besides hatred and the search for truth was Jin Chen's encouragement and companionship.
Alex pulled the blanket over himself, pursed his lips, and shifted to a more comfortable pose in Jin Chen's embrace.
——
That evening, Jin Chen took Alex to an underground base not far from the residential area.
Around here there are no streets; it's extremely quiet, and even the entrance is so concealed that it's hard to notice.
The inside environment is very clean; judging from the facilities still in place and those brought in, this place was probably once a military conference base.
Alex observed the surroundings and quickly came to a definition.
"This is where I and the legion's other core officials used to hold meetings; later I was promoted to general and gave the First Legion a better office building, so this place was left vacant."
Jin Chen turned on all the lights and facilities with a smart remote, explaining.
"Now, aside from the old man and my people, everyone thinks this place has been abandoned, guaranteeing safety."
Alex sent his subordinates a location.
While waiting, he noticed a few handwritten documents on the filing cabinet; the handwriting looked like Jin Chen's, which piqued his curiosity.
"Can I look at those documents?" he asked.
"Sure, anything that can remain isn't classified anyway."
Jin Chen was looking at the virtual screen from the smartbrain, responding casually.
These past two days, Joyce had ordered him to watch newcomer training videos and give targeted opinions based on the training volume; those rookie troublemakers made him feel overwhelmed.
Alex casually picked up one; it was Jin Chen's field report on how to completely exterminate the insect swarms on the battlefield, the handwriting somewhat messy, showing he had written it reluctantly.
Actually, the handwriting is slightly different from now; after reading the whole document, Alex inexplicably came up with an idea.
It seems the Jin Chen who wrote this report differs somewhat from the present one.
When this idea arose, Alex unconsciously turned to look at the earnest man, paused, and wondered if he'd been too idle lately, constantly thinking about random things.
——"Two lifeforms are entering."
The base's intelligent alert sounded.
"Commander!"
Two youths who looked almost identical rushed in, their faces showing the same anxiety and excitement.
They were Alex's former subordinates, the brothers Jila and Jimo.
"Commander! You… you've gotten so thin!"
Jila rushed to Alex's side, his eye rims instantly turning red.
"Commander! I heard you were deeply poisoned by a space pirate's slash; how are you now? Has the toxin been neutralized?" Jimo appeared steadier, but his tone revealed his worry.
"I'm fine; I'm currently preparing for detoxification."
Seeing the two brothers, Alex was also pleased, gesturing for them to sit opposite him.
At that moment, Jila finally noticed Jin Chen beside him.
He and his brother exchanged glances, and out of courtesy and gratitude, they still performed an imperial salute toward Jin Chen.
Jimeng: "Thank you, General Jin Chen, for helping our commander during this time."
Jin Chen heard this, rather displeased, and furrowed his brows.
Jin Chen turned off the virtual screen, leaned back, and wrapped his long arm around Alex, saying, "No need to thank me, we're family."
Jimeng: "...?"
Jila was the first to react, her voice trembling.
"You... you, commander... you've been wronged!"
"Just to survive, they actually have to humble themselves before a federal general."
Jin Chen: "What do you mean?"
