Chapter 2935: Second Life 06

~5 min read 998 words

Jin Chen lowered his head to look at the egg in his palm.

The egg lay motionless in his palm, but he wasn't sure if it was an illusion; it seemed to shift a little toward where Chenshu stood.

Then it suddenly bounced, as if nodding happily.

"Thank you, Master!" Jin Chen smiled, his eyes crinkling, as he held the Pixiu egg.

When they left the resting place, a circle of little spirit monsters had already gathered outside.

They stood far off, peeking, neither daring to approach nor willing to leave.

Seeing Jin Chen emerge unharmed, they all let out a breath in unison.

A Luo stood at the front, suddenly breaking into a smile, her eyes curving like crescent moons.

"Little Divine Lord!"

She ran up, lifted her face to look at him, and said, "You're all right! That's great!"

Chenshu halted his steps, his golden divine pupil glancing lightly over A Luo, he gave a soft laugh, then slightly turned his head toward Jin Chen, who was bowed low, curiously studying the Pixiu egg, oblivious to his surroundings: "Xiao Chen, if it weren't for this little friend promptly sending a spirit to report, I could not have found you so quickly; I ought to thank her."

Hearing this, Jin Chen finally lifted his head from studying the Pixiu egg and said, "Ah, it was you who sent the message? It was a bit scary in there, but fortunately my Master arrived!"

He thought for a moment, then habitually reached into his hundred-treasures bag and pulled out a spirit pearl.

"Here, this is my thanks."

A Luo looked at the small pearl in her hand, lifted her head to say something, but saw Jin Chen already turn and walk back to Chenshu's side.

She opened her mouth, then closed it. Gripping the little bell tightly, she curved her eyes.

"Thank you, Little Divine Lord!"

She shouted loudly, wanting everyone to hear.

Jin Chen turned back, waved at her, then turned to Chenshu and said, "Master, let's head back quickly—I need to make a nest for this guy!" The latter part was already spoken while tugging at Chenshu's sleeve.

Chenshu lowered his eyes, glanced at Jin Chen, whose thoughts were already flying to how to place the new pet, then noticed the faint disappointment in A Luo's eyes, and gave her a slight smile, saying, "Thank you."

A Luo stood in place, watching his back.

That handsome Little Divine Lord walked along carelessly, swaying with each step, as if he had another bamboo leaf between his lips.

The Main God lowered his head, not knowing what was said; the Little Divine Lord lifted his face, smiled, and then leaned his whole body toward the Main God again.

A Luo watched and watched, then lowered her head, pressing the little bell against her cheek.

The little bell swayed gently, emitting a clear chime.

It sounded wonderful.

She curved her eyes, then glanced once more at that retreating back.

Then she turned and ran back into the midst of her companions.

——

Jin Chen followed beside Chenshu, walking unsteadily, sometimes stepping on the grass at the roadside, sometimes lifting his head to gaze at the sky.

"Master." He suddenly spoke.

"Hmm."

"That egg—can I not want it?"

Chenshu frowned, puzzled, "Why?"

Jin Chen lowered his head to glance at the egg in his hand that clung stubbornly and refused to leave.

The egg pressed against his palm, utterly still.

"It's clingy."

Jin Chen said, "Too clingy."

Chenshu tilted his head to glance at him, then tapped his forehead, saying, "Since it chose you, it's fate."

"All right then." Jin Chen lifted the egg, slightly narrowing his eyes, "Considering it's the fate you, Master, spoke of, I'll reluctantly keep you."

The egg gave a gentle sway.

Jin Chen curled the corner of his mouth, then tucked it into his bosom.

"Master,"

he hurried to keep pace with Chenshu, asking, "What was the name of that little spirit monster who came to deliver the message just now?"

Chenshu's steps paused briefly, then he continued forward, "A Luo."

Jin Chen missed that brief pause, never failing to find a chance to jab, saying, "She said I'm handsome, though everyone in the Divine Hall says that—only Bai Ze doesn't, and he's really annoying."

Jin Chen went on with a few more remarks, then suddenly noticed that the Master beside him had grown quiet.

He tilted his head, "Master?"

"Hmm."

"Why aren't you speaking?"

"She really does like good looks." Chenshu spoke, his tone light, "When she delivered the message earlier, she was so anxious tears came out; along the way she fell several times, scraping her knees."

Jin Chen nodded, "That was pretty urgent."

"She really likes you."

Jin Chen watched the Master walk a few steps away, then suddenly snapped to attention and jogged to catch up.

"Master!"

He caught up, reached out and grabbed Chenshu's sleeve, asking, "Are you jealous?"

"Master kept mentioning her just now! Master never used to be like this!"

Chenshu helplessly, with only a faint smile in his eyes, said, "Are you going back or not?"

Jin Chen nodded, but still held onto Chenshu's sleeve without letting go, saying, "A Luo likes good looks, but Master is the best-looking of all."

"And Master treats me well—no one can compare to Master."

Behind him, the barrier of the habitat was slowly closing.

The chaotic magic spirits running amok everywhere have been repressed again, and the gray-black sky is returning to its original state.

Wen Cang stood outside the barrier, watching the two receding figures grow farther apart, and let out a sigh.

Bai Ze is gone.

Pi Xiu is gone too.

He turned his head and glanced at the little spirit creatures behind him.

They were chattering as they surrounded A Luo, looking at the little bell in her hand.

Forget it.

At least someone who can relay a message remains.

He shook his head, turned around, and left.
