Chapter 2942: You Are My Fashionable Darling 01

~7 min read 1,231 words

Bai Ze brought Ling Gun Gun along, and they were overjoyed—of course, mainly Ling Gun Gun was overjoyed, heading to that special small world said to be filled with pure energy crystals and especially suitable for spirit beast cultivation, for a vacation.

Before setting off, Ling Gun Gun fully channeled the pixiu spirit, wheedling and cajoling its way into Jin Chen's private vault, crying and wailing as it hauled off a huge haul of rare treasures useful for transformation and soul stabilization, grandly dubbing it an investment in the future handsomest divine beast.

Although Jin Chen complained verbally, he didn't hold back materially, picking and choosing to give plenty of good stuff, and finally kicked out that noisy pixiu together with Bai Ze, just to have some peace and quiet.

Ling Gun Gun clung to its treasures, then rubbed up against Jin Chen again.

"Host, you and the Main God had better get along! Once I succeed in transforming, I'll come back to see you!"

Jin Chen lowered his head to watch it, excited to the point of almost taking flight.

Suddenly he recalled long ago, that little thing that had crawled out of its eggshell—back then it was so tiny, so ugly, he had loathed it.

"Go on, don't embarrass me."

Ling Gun Gun nodded vigorously, "No way! I'll definitely transform into the handsomest!"

Without Ling Gun Gun's constant chattering in his ear, Jin Chen and Chenshu enjoyed a stretch of shameless, lovey-dovey immortal days.

Chenshu's soul recovered, and he went through many of the backlogged affairs of the Quick Transmigration Bureau.

Jin Chen also returned to duty, but no longer as an ordinary tasker; instead, he served as the Bureau Chief's specially appointed senior consultant and inspector, with authority so high it was frightening, but work… well, it depended on his mood.

Most of the time he still preferred to stick close to Chenshu to help with work, but in fact he often interrupted the stern Bureau Chief to steal a kiss, act coquettish, or simply drag him to the observation deck to enjoy a rare moment alone together.

However, the good times didn't last. Rescue Department Head Xu Li, after nervously observing the Bureau Chief and Jin Chen for a while, confirmed they seemed not to be settling old scores immediately, and with the intention to crack down on attendance, his restless heart stirred again.

Especially when he got hold of a plan jointly devised by the Strategy Department and Rescue Department—an Adventure Card Draw Activity scheme meant to boost taskers' fun, increase wish-energy collection efficiency, and deepen emotional experience—and had it approved by the Bureau Chief, he immediately sought out Jin Chen.

"Card draw?"

In the somewhat extravagant Rescue Department Head's office, Jin Chen leaned back on the comfortable sofa, legs crossed, playing with card samples, and raised an eyebrow dubiously at Xu Li opposite him, as well as Wei Ze'an beside him.

"Exactly! It's the Adventure Life Card Draw Event we, the Rescue and Strategy Departments, jointly crafted with great care!"

"Xu Li promoted it vigorously: "Absolutely novel! Absolutely fun!""

"How about it, Jin Chen? Anyway, each draw only costs five points—peanuts for you. Those points piling up in your account are practically molding; you might as well spend them for some fun, in case you pull a hidden rarity."

Jin Chen rubbed the edge of a card, about to see what Wei Ze'an, the Strategy Department Head, had to say.

At a glance he was startled—this brooder's frown deepened, his face turned pallid with worry, his gaze drifted vacant, as if his soul lingered in some unknown small world.

Jin Chen glanced at him a few times, clicked his tongue inwardly, feeling a bit mischievous, and waved his hand in front of him. "Department Head Wei, are you still alive?"

Wei Ze'an lifted his eyes, gave him a look, then lowered them again.

"Let's draw cards."

Jin Chen: "……" What a piece of work.

"If worse comes to worst, I'll give you a long leave to sort out that love trouble—I'll approve it."

With Jin Chen's current authority, granting a department head leave is a breeze.

Wei Ze'an frowned, thinking, while Xu Li beside him grew envious enough to see red, saying, "I'm still your department head—you never approve my leave requests!"

Jin Chen drifted his gaze away, pretending not to hear.

"No thanks, I have my own plans." Wei Ze'an still refused.

"Let's draw cards, Boss Jin Chen!" Xu Li rubbed his hands, eyes pleading as he looked at Jin Chen.

Jin Chen shrugged indifferently, "Sure, might as well—we're idle anyway."

He casually transferred ten points to the event account: "Draw two."

Just then the office door knocked; a young tasker poked his head in, holding a points card, obviously having heard about the new event and come to try it out.

Seeing the great god Jin Chen in the department head's office, he jumped and hurriedly bowed in greeting.

"No problem, come on in—perfect time to draw together and share the luck." Xu Li was in a good mood and waved a hand.

The young tasker, overwhelmed by the favor, walked in and stood not far from Jin Chen, activating the card-draw interface.

Jin Chen also casually tapped twice on the light screen before him.

Light flashed, the cards flipped.

Before Jin Chen, two cards slowly rose, their faces plain, edges bearing only simple light-copper patterns.

C-rank cards, two of them.

Before the young tasker, however, was a single exquisite card—an SR-rank.

Jin Chen: "……" Hiss.

Young tasker: "!!!"

He glanced at his own SR, then furtively flicked his eyes at Jin Chen's two plain C-cards, his face draining white as he waved his hands repeatedly.

"Boss, it's pure coincidence—I offer this card to you!"

Xu Li also gaped: "I only put three C-cards in this pool, everything else is at least A—what luck do you have, Jin Chen?"

The young tasker suddenly had an idea: "Boss, how about you give me a hundred points and I draw for you? My luck seems… still okay?"

Jin Chen crossed his arms, slightly narrowing his azure eyes, "Fine. Draw."

"Hey, wait!" Xu Li hurriedly interjected, "First, let's agree—per the event rules, each tasker may participate in up to three draws; this last one, whatever it turns out to be, as long as it isn't 'Thanks for your patronage,' must be logged into the system and scheduled for execution."

"Jin Chen, you've already drawn two C's, this third—"

He really feared drawing another C—if so, would this event even be promotable? With the Bureau Chief's wife having such terrible luck, who'd dare play if word got out?

Jin Chen ignored him, lifted his chin at the young tasker, and said, "Draw."

The young tasker steeled himself, and under Jin Chen's gaze, clicked the third draw.

The light screen flickered again.

Another C.

Three Cs—done.

Young tasker: "……"

His face went ashen, feeling his career might be over.

Xu Li covered their face, unable to bear to look.

Jin Chen looked at the three C-rank cards laid out side by side, falling into deep thought.

"Wait." He threw down those two words, turned and walked out of the office.

Xu Li: "???"

Hold on, Big Boss Jin Chen, where are you going? You're not going to grab a sword and smash the card pool system, are you?
