Chapter 3002: Willful Taming 19

~6 min read 1,050 words

Chenshu woke up from thirst, his throat dry as if it were about to smoke; he dazedly opened his eyes, and what came into view was an unfamiliar ceiling light, not the one in his room.

He unconsciously shrank his shoulders into the blanket, as if that would give him a sense of safety; his whole body ached, every movement tugged at his nerves, but Chenshu had no mind for that.

"Jin Chen..." he tried to speak, his voice hoarse.

No one responded.

The room was empty, with only him inside.

He now felt a bit at a loss, as if a sword hung over his head, blade pointing down, and that sword was named Abandoned.

As long as he couldn't see Jin Chen, that sword might fall at any moment, smashing him into helplessness.

The feeling of panic grew stronger; Chenshu endured the pain, propping himself up with his uninjured right hand, slowly sitting up, the blanket slipping off to reveal his body wrapped in layers of bandages and his thin frame clad only in a loose hospital gown.

"Jin Chen?" he called again, staring fixedly at the tightly shut bedroom door.

The door was pushed open, but it wasn't the person Chenshu wanted to see; it was Doctor Liu and A Meng, the security captain of Half Mountain Villa.

Seeing them, the faint light in Chenshu's eyes dimmed again; his hope came to nothing, replaced by deeper bewilderment and unease.

A Meng looked at the bewildered youth on the bed, sighed in his heart, feeling somewhat unpleasant.

A Meng and Chenshu's relationship was already pretty good; during the days Chenshu was under soft confinement at Half Mountain Villa, they often chatted, and A Meng would even help him secretly order takeout, since Jin Chen forbade junk food in the villa, and when Chenshu got a craving he could only sneak a bite.

"Doctor Liu is here to give you a checkup," A Meng said.

Chenshu shook his head, not looking at the doctor, merely fixing his gaze on A Meng and asking in a hoarse voice, "Jin Chen? Where is he?"

A Meng paused, then answered in a stiff, by-the-book manner following Jin Chen's earlier instructions: "President Jin is still handling company affairs, very busy. He instructed that after you wake up you should properly recuperate, and once your injuries heal…"

He paused, then "…just leave."

Chenshu shook his head again in a daze, his eyes quickly reddening; he desperately pressed his lips down, trying to hold back the surging tears.

But in front of others he ultimately didn't cry; he turned his face to the side, rubbed his eyes with the blanket, wiping away that moisture.

"I want to see Jin Chen," Chenshu repeated, his voice choked yet stubborn.

A Meng looked at his state, his heart feeling a bit choked; he had known Chenshu for a while, but had never seen this young man show such an expression.

But President Jin's order…

He could only steel himself and continue asking, "Why did you do that? Who did you send the copied port information to?"

Chenshu's gaze flickered.

But he couldn't say it out, at least not to A Meng right now.

He turned his head away to avoid A Meng's probing gaze, repeating over and over, "I want to see Jin Chen, I need to see him."

A Meng: "..."

He had no idea what to do.

You can't hit or scold him, you can't ask anything out of him, yet he cries so pitifully.

He unconsciously, with a hint of seeking instruction, glanced furtively in a certain direction of the room, where there stood an ordinary-looking European-style carved display table.

This subtle movement was keenly caught by Chenshu, who was trying to find a glimmer of a turning point.

Chenshu followed his gaze to that table, his heart pounding violently; in an instant all his stubbornness and defenses collapsed, leaving only frail pity, his pressed lips dry and pallid, as if his wounds all flared up at once, aching all over, making him look even more listless, devoid of spirit.

In the adjacent connected study, before the monitor screen.

Jin Chen leaned back in a large leather chair, the screen before him clearly displaying everything in the room.

And also Chenshu's sudden glance toward the camera.

Jin Chen's fingers resting on the armrest curled slightly; looking at the screen at that face, crying messily and pitifully, he let out an impatient click of his tongue.

He stood up, turned, and walked toward the hidden door connecting to the master bedroom.

Click.

In the master bedroom, the decorative panel that looked like a complete wall slid inward.

Jin Chen's figure appeared at the doorway.

He looked exhausted, as if he'd worked all day without rest, his brows and eyes showing lax fatigue, a few stray hairs casually falling onto his forehead, his expression indifferent, exuding an inner and outer weariness and chill that seemed to lower the temperature of the air.

In the room, A Meng felt relieved, immediately understood, and without a word grabbed the still-confused Doctor Liu beside him, swiftly exiting and thoughtfully taking the bedroom's main door with him.

Now, only the two of them remained in the room.

At the instant Jin Chen appeared, Chenshu's tears flowed even more fiercely.

He just sat there on the bed, face upturned, blurred with tears, watching Jin Chen step closer, tears dropping patter.

Jin Chen walked to the bedside and stopped, looking down at the blubbering Chenshu, his face showing little expression.

He raised his hand, his fingertip brushing over Chenshu's cheek, wiping away the tear about to slide to his chin.

But the next second, the tear-wiping fingertip suddenly landed on Chenshu's neck, palm pressing against his throat, fingers closing to grip that still slightly trembling part of his neck.

Chenshu's breath hitched; he lifted his slender neck, tear-blurred eyes looking at Jin Chen, apparently having no intention to struggle at all.

Jin Chen slightly leaned forward, closing the distance between them, lazily lifting his eyelids, a questioning hum escaping his nostrils.

"What are you feeling wronged about?"

Jin Chen's fingertip lightly rubbed the pulse on Chenshu's neck, feeling its rapid throbbing, "The lock on the study—wasn't it you who pried it open yourself?"
