Chapter 3010: Taming the Stubborn 27

~7 min read 1,203 words

At the same time, the top-floor office of the group headquarters.

Chu Yi held Jin Chen's private phone in his hand, the screen still showing the call log from the just-ended call; he pushed his frameless glasses up his nose, as if weighing something.

This scene happened to fall into the eyes of the Third Secretary, who had just pushed the door open and entered.

The Third Secretary, surnamed Wang, is a meticulous middle-aged man responsible for Jin Chen's overseas business liaison; he had just returned from a trip to Europe a few days ago and hadn't yet finished handing over all his current work, and he also knows little about recent personnel changes and special situations within the group.

He saw Chu Yi standing by the desk holding Jin Chen's private phone, his expression somewhat odd; his professional sensitivity immediately made him wary.

"Chu Engineer, what's wrong?" Secretary Wang stepped forward, "Is there a problem with President Jin's phone?"

Chu Yi seemed startled by his voice, came back to himself, "Secretary Wang, you came just in time. Just now Mr. Chenshu called, saying he had encountered danger, sounding urgent; I need to go tell President Jin right away."

"Wait!" Secretary Wang immediately raised his hand to stop him, his brows furrowing, "Chu Engineer, do you know how important the meeting President Jin is currently in is?"

He gave Chu Yi a once‑over, his tone growing more serious: "Moreover, that Mr. Chenshu you mentioned… I've never seen him on the important contact list."

Chu Yi's face showed an even more troubled expression: "Secretary Wang, I know the meeting is important. But Mr. Chenshu's identity is special; no matter how important this meeting is, I believe we must immediately inform President Jin."

Upon hearing those words, the ever‑work‑first Secretary Wang's brows knotted; in his view, Jin Chen is someone who puts work first and never lets private matters affect public duties.

"Nonsense! Chu Engineer, I don't care who this Mr. Chenshu is; President Jin's order is that the meeting comes first! Without his explicit instruction, no one may disturb! You've just joined the group, maybe you're not clear on the rules, so this time I'll let it slide—put the phone down and return to your post!"

Having said that, Secretary Wang picked up a few urgent documents from the desk, turned, and hurriedly walked toward the meeting room, pushing the door open and entering.

Chu Yi glanced at the phone screen, now calm again in his hand, raised an eyebrow, walked to the desk, and placed the phone back neatly in its original spot.

Half an hour later, the cooperation meeting finally ended.

The solid‑wood door of the meeting room opened, with Jin Chen at the lead; several people walked out first, the German cooperation representative walking beside him, still speaking softly in accented English about the follow‑up details.

The assistant immediately stepped forward, guiding the German representative to the VIP lounge to prepare the upcoming work meal.

Jin Chen rubbed his forehead, quietly giving Chen Gai a few follow‑up instructions, then instinctively reached into his pocket for his phone to check Chenshu's message—only then recalling that before the meeting he had told Chu Yi to handle security maintenance, and had left the phone in the office for Chu Yi to finish and encrypt on his own.

Just as he realized that, the office door was pushed open from outside with some haste.

Chu Yi stood at the doorway, his eyes full of hesitant anxiety, and handed over the phone with both hands: "President Jin! Mr. Chenshu called about half an hour ago, saying he had encountered danger at the airport; it sounds urgent."

Jin Chen's eyes darkened. "Why didn't you come in to say that?"

Chu Yi wanted to speak but hesitated, glancing at Secretary Wang, who was utterly startled and hurriedly explained: "That cooperation is very important; I was afraid of interrupting the meeting's progress, so…"

Chen Gai sucked in a breath of cold air beside them.

Work is work, but when it concerns Chenshu, the priority is never below any meeting; Old Wang just got back from a business trip, completely unaware of the situation, so he's probably going to take the fall for this.

Jin Chen didn't pursue the matter further, pulled up the call log and immediately called back.

It was switched off.

Jin Chen kept dialing while opening the tracking app on his phone, got up and headed out, saying, "The location is the hospital, Chen Gai."

Chen Gai didn't dare delay even a second, immediately fell in step, and at the same time quickly began contacting to arrange vehicles and personnel.

Secretary Wang stood at the back, finally sensing that things were really not good, yet he couldn't pinpoint exactly what had gone wrong—it really seemed like his oversight; he didn't even know who Mr. Chenshu was, yet he had blocked that call.

He saw Chu Yi also about to go out and hurriedly called out: "Chu Engineer!... Just who is this Mr. Chenshu?"

Chu Yi's lips twitched slightly at the words, then he slowly turned around and whispered, "Secretary Wang, Mr. Chenshu is President Jin's boyfriend."

Secretary Wang: "..." Done for.

He stared at the closed metal panel of the elevator doors, as if he could already see the end of his career.

——

Writing City Hospital.

Pite felt a bit dazed, staring blankly at the ceiling, pondering his tumultuous fate and his buddy's mysterious husband, when the ward door was pushed open and a crowd surged in; as the leading man stepped inside, the temperature in the room seemed to drop a few degrees.

Pite was startled by the scene, instinctively pulling the thin blanket tighter around himself and shrinking back, stammering, "Who are you? Did you get the wrong ward?"

Chen Gai hurriedly stepped forward, his tone as gentle as possible, and introduced: "This is President Jin Chen; we're here to find Mr. Chenshu. May I ask, where is our little sister‑in‑law?"

Pite was even more bewildered, his lips trembling: "President Jin? Little… little sister‑in‑law."

His head was still a little rattled from the impact, his reactions slowed half a beat, but before coming to Writing City he had certainly done his homework—the name Jin Chen is known far and wide in Writing City!

His buddy…… so awesome…… no, what a huge sacrifice!

Pite pointed toward the hallway outside the ward, his voice drifting: "He went to help me pay the fee and get medicine…"

Jin Chen: "Is he injured?"

"No, no." Pite hastily shook his head, still uneasy, "Brother Chenshu is incredibly skilled—he's unharmed and even saved me."

After he said that, feeling he had finished asking those few questions, the expression of the tall man before him seemed to ease just a fraction.

Pite couldn't help but shrink further into the blanket, touching his injured bald head, and muttered to himself: "His buddy is really a little pepper—explosive temper, fierce skills—how could he end up with a man who looks even fiercer than Brother Chenshu? For the mission, Brother Chenshu is really bending over backward…"

Just as he finished those random thoughts on this side, the ward door was pushed open again.
