Chapter 3116: My Wife and I Roleplay Everyday Life 01
The Free and Easy Immortal Sect has held the position of the continent's top sect for over ten thousand years.
That sounds light, but looking across the whole cultivation world, only this sect has stood firm through ten thousand years of wind and rain. Nine main peaks rise straight into the clouds; from the foot, mist wraps the mountainsides, the summits hidden in heavenly light, and occasionally a wisp of spiritual energy sweeps by, startling birds into scattering.
Myriad Phenomena Peak is the third of the nine peaks, its slopes covered in evergreen spiritual trees; the wind chime hanging from the eaves is a dharma artifact left by the former peak master—it rings ding-dong when the wind blows, its sound carrying down to the base.
Inside the cave dwelling, the person on the futon opened their eyes.
He looked around the furnishings, his memories settled, closed his eyes again, reviewed all the information, and when he opened them his mouth had already curled up.
No wonder he had beaten Xu Li over the previous world's affair; this time he finally got to enjoy his honeymoon with memories intact. Jin Chen was in high spirits, ready to get up and stretch, when a point of light suddenly appeared out of nowhere before him.
That point of light was tiny, like a firefly drifting back and forth in front of his nose, and a childlike voice with a slight mechanical tone sounded.
"Ding! Nemesis System 11 at your service!"
Jin Chen blinked.
The light point jumped up and down slightly, as if bowing, "Greetings, honored mission holder. I am the first-generation New Nemesis System, serial number 11."
"This system will provide you with full-range mission guidance. Please note: during this journey you must complete nemesis missions to earn points, which can be exchanged for items in the mall. Have a pleasant trip!"
Jin Chen pinched the chattering light point; it struggled twice but couldn't break free.
"Wait, mission holder, please don't——"
"You don't know who I am?" Jin Chen held it up to his eyes, squinting to examine it; the little thing felt soft and pliable, like squeezing a warm candy pill, and was quite fun.
The light point stopped struggling and answered honestly: "Reporting, mission holder: I am the first-generation New Nemesis System, just produced less than half a month ago, still not linked to the Quick Transmigration Bureau database, so I cannot identify your identity information. If you have questions, I suggest contacting the Quick Transmigration Bureau customer service for consultation."
Jin Chen: "……" That dog Xu Li, he was actually waiting for him here.
"So my previous points don't apply to you?"
"Yes," the fledgling Nemesis System 11 said fearlessly, "Please, mission holder, wholeheartedly complete the nemesis system tasks, accumulate points, and redeem desired items. Current point balance: 0. Wishing you smooth mission execution!"
Jin Chen relaxed his fingers, letting the light point drift back into the air.
"Fine," he said, "Then tell me, who is my mission target?"
System 11: "Mission target: the nemesis within this plot, a body-cultivation disciple of Indestructible Peak, Chenshu."
Jin Chen leaned back in the chair, his fingers lightly tapping the armrest, and his spirit instantly roused.
"Senior brother!"
From outside the door came urgent shouts; the knocker practically wanted to tear the door off its hinges: "Senior brother! Are you awake? Are you up?"
Jin Chen replied lazily: "I'm here, just a moment."
With a swish, the door was pushed open.
A boy in Myriad Phenomena Peak disciple robes rushed in, about eighteen or nineteen, with thick eyebrows and round, bright eyes; he took two breaths upon entering, then saw Jin Chen standing before the water mirror, his Dharma robe not yet fastened, two strings of pendants hanging from his waist, and in his hand he held a jade bead chain he'd somehow pulled out, gesturing with it; his whole body glowed from head to toe, with a tinkling clatter.
The Free and Easy Immortal Sect's most beautiful Dharma cultivator—this title is no empty praise.
He Yun would be dazed each time he saw his senior brother all dressed up; this time was no exception—he froze for about two breaths, then quickly snapped back, not because he was immune to beauty, but because he'd been punished too many times for Jin Chen's tardiness.
"Senior brother! Today is the final trial for thousands of examinees climbing the Immortal Cloud Platform; every peak's personally transmitted disciples must go, and you're about to be late."
"Wait a moment," Jin Chen said slowly, "Could you help me check this…"
He held the jade bead chain up to his collar for a comparison, then switched it to his wrist and shook it; He Yun stood in place, watching as Jin Chen rummaged in the cabinet and pulled out a silver-thread pendant, the bells on his waist jingling.
He Yun took the silver-thread pendant from Jin Chen's hand, picked a white jade buckle from the cabinet, fastened it to his collar in a couple of moves, then straightened his face again: "All right, senior brother, you really, really, really are about to be late."
"I really, really don't want to be punished again with hard-to-swallow pills."
Jin Chen lowered his head to look at the white jade buckle on his collar, then tilted his head to check the bronze mirror; his brows and eyes relaxed a bit: "Got it, got it, your eye is good."
"Are the Indestructible Peak folks also going to the trial today?"
He Yun sighed, knowing his senior brother would ask that.
"All the peak's personally transmitted disciples are present, including Indestructible Peak's senior brother Chenshu. So, senior brother, I have one request for you today: please take it easy, don't oppose Chenshu in front of the new initiates; our Myriad Phenomena Peak might even recruit a few more Dharma cultivators thanks to your face."
Jin Chen reached out and tapped his head.
"How are you speaking?"
"Yes, yes, yes," He Yun said, covering his forehead, then began chanting practiced lines: "Senior brother, you're the strongest in the Free and Easy Sect, overwhelming Chenshu with no chance to retaliate. Senior brother, you're wise and mighty, peerless in the world."
"Enough, enough," Jin Chen waved his hand and stepped out.
He Yun followed behind, his mind again starting to wonder when these two senior brothers would ever calm down, stop fighting every time they met; over the years he's been in the peak, Jin Chen and Chenshu have faced off more often than he's eaten meals, each encounter like setting off firecrackers.
But if those two ever really harmonized…… He Yun shuddered. Nah, that would be truly strange.
