Chapter 3208: Saving Zero Egg Bai Ze's Love Story 09
Yi Qi ran at breakneck speed, head down, charging outward.
Jin Chen stood guard in the corridor; from afar he heard hurried footsteps, looked up, and saw Yi Qi charging down like an enraged leopard, momentum fierce as if he wanted to smash the Main Gate, so he reached out to block him.
Yi Qi couldn't stop, crashed headfirst into Jin Chen's shoulder, then clutched his own head and cried, "Ah!"
Yi Qi staggered backward half a step, head spinning, still holding his head, then looked up and saw Jin Chen standing before him.
"What's wrong?" Jin Chen lowered his gaze to look at him.
Yi Qi had no mood to talk properly, he went around Jin Chen and tried to rush out, recklessly charging forward like a rampaging bull calf.
"Get out of my way! I want to go back! Bai Ze, that liar! I never want to see him again!"
Jin Chen: "?"
"What now!"
The young masters in the private room heard the commotion outside; someone curious poked his head out to take a look, and saw the lobby packed tight with bodyguards, each with a solemn expression. The young master's head shrank back in a flash, and the door slammed shut so fast not even a crack was visible.
Jin Chen stretched out an arm to block Yi Qi's path, gesturing for him to calm down, glanced sideways at the bodyguards following him down, and asked, "What's going on?"
The bodyguards exchanged glances; the leader reported bluntly, "The young master took us to the top floor, broke the password lock on a suite, and inside… is Young Master Bai Ze."
Yi Qi, listening nearby, grew angrier and angrier, feeling as if he wore seven green hats on his head, so green it made his heart panic and ache.
He glared at Jin Chen, gritting his teeth, he added, "Bai Ze is Qi Bu Man! That liar! He's been hiding everything from me!"
Jin Chen was briefly taken aback, "Oh ho? How could he be Qi Bu Man?"
"And more!" Yi Qi grew more impassioned as he spoke, "He's been shacking up with his lover on the top floor!"
Bai Ze finally caught up, at a glance he saw the scene in the lobby, and also heard Yi Qi's unrestrained accusation.
"There's no lover, nothing like that!" Bai Ze hurried over, unusually urgent.
Yi Qi stuck out his neck, glaring at him, utterly stubborn, and retorted through gritted teeth, "You're still lying to me! I've found out! There's clearly someone else in that room!"
Jin Chen stood aside, watching this scene akin to catching an affair, his expression exceedingly subtle.
Seeing Yi Qi's urge to rush out finally ease, he no longer urged him to run, so he released his grip, stepped back two paces, leaned against the column, arms crossed over his chest, the classic spectator pose.
The bodyguards, seeing the young master's demeanor, followed suit, silently retreating to form a line behind Jin Chen. Several tall, burly black-clad bodyguards stood perfectly straight, expressionless, staring toward the lobby, the scene oddly feeling like a mob boss with his underlings watching a lovers' quarrel. Customers passing by the lobby glanced over, then detoured with a turn of their steps.
Bai Ze soothed and explained, "The people in that room are dangerous; I can't guarantee I could protect you, how could I be in such a situation… anyway, how could there be a lover?"
The last sentence came out with some difficulty; clearly that word was too much for him.
Seeing Bai Ze still making excuses, Yi Qi's anger flared; he reached out and grabbed his shirt collar, "You're still spouting nonsense! I've seen your……"
He hadn't finished speaking when the already disheveled shirt, tugged, fell apart completely, exposing a large expanse of chest and neck skin. Yi Qi's gaze fell on those marks, and his voice trailed off.
Jin Chen stood a few steps away, let out a "Huh!", and together with the row of bodyguards behind him, turned their gaze elsewhere.
Yi Qi stared blankly at those red marks on Bai Ze's body.
Those marks ran from the collarbone to the back of the neck, varying in depth, laid on the skin; looking closely, they were clearly left by someone grabbing, pulling, shoving, fighting, and had nothing to do with any amorousness.
They were also rather dazzling to the eye.
Yi Qi blinked, as if… as if it really wasn't what he had imagined.
"You got into a fight?" he asked softly.
Bai Ze lowered his eyes to the marks on his own chest, "Yeah, after he injected the drug his condition was unstable; I grappled with him in the room for a while."
Yi Qi: "……"
He guiltily reached out to pull the torn shirt back together; the buttons wouldn't fasten for a while, and in the end Bai Ze himself adjusted the collar.
The lobby fell silent for a moment.
Bai Ze finally found an opening to explain, he reached out and took Yi Qi's hand hanging at his side, his tone gentle beyond words: "How did you know I'm Qi Bu Man?"
Yi Qi, upon being asked, felt the smoldering anger in his heart flare up again.
He shook off his hand, couldn't break free, so he let Bai Ze hold it, his voice heavy with regret and sorrow: "I investigated the assassins who hunted me that day… they were all subordinates of Qi Bu Man, you are Qi Bu Man, you……"
"So you really are helping them bully me."
Yi Qi dwelt on it, feeling tighter and tighter in his chest, thinking he must be the most unlucky fiancé in the world, and even began to imagine: "Are you trying to drive me away to make room for someone else? Or did you have other schemes from the start? You take advantage of my liking you to do as you please!"
Bai Ze, baffled, had yet another melodramatic scoundrel script slapped on him: "……"
Jin Chen, leaning against the column: "……"
Jin Chen tilted his head to look at the ceiling, silently sighing in his heart.
Everyone says Zero Egg should watch less melodramatic TV beforehand; now it's fine, at the crucial moment he blurts out every line without missing a beat.
Yi Qi still stood there, upset yet stubborn, gazing at Bai Ze; the rims of his eyes were already faintly red, his mouth turned down, his whole face saying, "I'm hurt, come comfort me."
Bai Ze tightened his grip on his hand, gently rubbing the back of it, "I really am Qi Bu Man; those thugs you mentioned really were my people before."
"But they killed you, not on my orders." Bai Ze added quickly, before his tears could fall.
Yi Qi froze; the moisture gathering at the edge of his eyes was forced back by those words, "Who is it?"
Bai Ze: "Qi Bu Man is just a codename; back when I was in the Nine Region, it was me. After I came to Didu, the person upstairs, my subordinate, took over the codename and became the new Qi Bu Man."
Yi Qi's brows knitted, "But I don't even know him; why would he want to kill me?"
Bai Ze hesitated for a moment. But Yi Qi, focusing intently on exercising his imagination, didn't notice the brief pause, "Could it be they're trying to force you back to the Nine Region, so they came to kill me, your fiancé?"
Bai Ze startled, the fingers of his hand hanging at his side twitched slightly.
He lowered his head, hesitated a few breaths, gazed deeply at Yi Qi, and softly said, "……Yes."
Yi Qi clicked his tongue, "Then they're really awful."
As for why Bai Ze let those assassins go that night, Yi Qi automatically supplied a reason in his mind.
After all, they were once his subordinates and brothers; Bai Ze may appear cold on the outside, but inside he's actually quite soft, so it's normal he couldn't bear to see those he once led die before his eyes. He himself also grew up in the Ten Region, so he deeply understands this bond.
The misunderstanding seemed to be mostly resolved at this moment.
Jin Chen, standing aside, having watched the whole thing, cleared his throat at the right moment and reminded, "By the way… have you dealt with that Qi Bu Man upstairs?"
As his words fell, heavy, irregular footsteps came from the hallway behind them leading toward the lobby, like some large creature approaching.
Everyone turned their heads at the same time to look over there.
