Chapter 3219: Saving the Zero-Protein Bai Ze Love Story 20

~6 min read 1,153 words

Less than two kilometers from the mountain path, on the narrowest bend.

Claire's motorbike had been hit repeatedly over a dozen times, the body dented in multiple places, the rear fender about to fall off. Scenery on both sides flashed backward, the bike dragging an afterimage amid the engine's roar, tires scraping sparks on the ground.

Yi Qi could see something was wrong.

At this distance and speed, even if Bai Ze could knock Claire off the cliff, there was almost a fifty percent chance his own bike would follow her down!

Yi Qi was frantic, his arm aching from the vibration, several times nearly unable to hold the handlebars.

He exerted all his strength to lower his center of gravity, pressed the bike down, stabilized the frame, and roared in the night, 'Bai Ze!! Stop!!'

That shout echoed through the valley, drowning out the engine's roar.

Bai Ze turned his head, and in the intense sound wave he seemed to see fear in Yi Qi's eyes, finally easing speed; the tires dragged two long black marks on the road, the smell of burnt rubber filling the air.

At the moment they finally stopped, Claire's front wheel was only half a step from the cliff's edge; a little farther and both rider and bike would have plunged into that bottomless darkness.

Yi Qi also came to a stop.

He swung off the bike, took off his helmet, and tossed it aside.

Yi Qi's eyes boiled with uncontainable anger, his whole body like a volcano about to erupt, he had no attention for Claire who wanted to strike, strode a few steps to Bai Ze, grabbed him off the bike, and slammed him onto the seat.

'Xiao Qi……' 'What are you doing?! Ah!'

'Just who is he?!' Yi Qi's voice hoarse and fierce, 'To kill him, you'd even die with him?! Do you have any idea how dangerous that just was?! What if you'd fallen?!'

Yi Qi had lived in Didu for years, and it had been a long time since he'd pushed himself beyond his limits like this; his arm still trembled, unable to grip Bai Ze's collar, so he loosened his hold to brace himself on the bike's seat on either side. The tinnitus buzzed, making it hard for him to hear his own voice.

On the way here, Bai Ze had anticipated Yi Qi's questioning and was about to explain when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Claire behind Yi Qi, gritting through the impact injuries, struggling to her feet, re-gripping the handlebars, ready to ram the bike again.

Bai Ze's eyes turned cold in an instant; he shoved Yi Qi behind him, jumped off the bike, drew his gun, aimed, and fired.

The gunshot exploded in the night sky.

Claire was hit in the left shoulder, blood spurting, she fell from the bike and hit the ground hard.

But the bike didn't stop; the out-of-control machine kept charging forward, toward them……

Just then, a heavy Hummer came speeding down from the mountaintop, its roar deafening.

The Hummer off-road vehicle intercepted the runaway bike at astonishing speed sideways, metal clashing with a deafening crash, sparks flying, dragging the bike forward another ten-odd meters before barely stopping, the bike erupting in fierce flames.

The car door was flung open then slammed shut; a tall man stepped out from the driver's seat, the fire lighting his face, his eyes cold.

Jin Chen walked unhurriedly to where Claire lay on the ground, looking down at her.

Claire pressed a hand to her shoulder wound, face pale, still gasping, blood continually vomiting from her throat, mixing with saliva and sticking to the ground.

Jin Chen raised his hand and fired another shot into Claire's leg, ensuring she wouldn't die but would remain unconscious for a while, unable to continue causing trouble.

'Drag her away.' he said.

Several subordinates immediately stepped forward and dragged Claire away from the scene.

Only then did Jin Chen turn his head, looking at the two people still facing off over there.

Yi Qi's tense expression finally eased, the aftereffects of the high-speed ride beginning to show, his tinnitus severe.

He furrowed his brow, shook his head hard, trying to restore normal hearing.

Bai Ze's fingertip twitched.

Seeing Yi Qi's distress, his heart felt clenched tight, and he softly called, 'Xiao Qi……'

Bai Ze reached out to help Yi Qi rub his ears, his fingertips gently massaging the ear cartilage with careful tenderness.

Yi Qi still glared at him but didn't refuse; after rubbing until his whole ear felt warm, Bai Ze lowered his head, leaned close to Yi Qi's ear, and gently blew a breath inside.

Yi Qi shuddered, and finally his hearing returned. The world's sound rushed back into his ears, along with his own rapid heartbeat, his vision no longer double; lowering his gaze……

He suddenly grabbed Bai Ze's arm, his tone even harsher and colder than before, 'You're still hurt!'

Bai Ze lowered his eyes to himself; the laceration was still oozing blood, left from when he'd dealt with those assassins in the factory earlier, and he hadn't had a chance to treat it.

Yet he didn't mind, seeing the almost pleading softness in Yi Qi's eyes, and despite Yi Qi's resistance he pulled him into a tight embrace, murmuring.

'Thank goodness…… you're unharmed.'

Jin Chen leaned against the Hummer's door edge, lazily interrupting them.

'You two young masters, stop arguing here; I'll have people clean up the mess—if you have anything to say, discuss it later.'

The forced-onlookers, the idle rich second generations: '……' Mommy, God.

They knew full well that today's events must never be leaked.

Even without Jin Chen reminding them individually, those who had witnessed the Jin Chen Consortium's heir apparent drive straight into the out-of-control bike and then shoot someone—those young masters and misses—were all so obedient they'd make sure not a word got out.

They left the scene quickly, some even slipping away without a greeting, fearing that if they moved slowly they'd be summoned for tea.

In the independent rest area down the mountain, the accompanying doctor was treating Bai Ze's wounds.

Jin Chen leaned by the window playing on his phone, but his ears were clearly not idle.

Bai Ze's injuries were obviously from a fight—scrapes, bruises, and split skin everywhere, the kind of fight where they went all out.

The doctor disinfected while inwardly clicking his tongue, but dared not ask anything, focusing wholeheartedly on treating the wounds.

Yi Qi sat in the chair opposite Bai Ze, exhaled a cool breath through his teeth, his expression cold as he looked at Bai Ze's wounds—each one felt like a knife slash to his heart—'You said you were going to discuss business today? Is this what you call business? I didn't know your family was also in the arms trade.'

'Bai Ze, you lied to me again.'
