Chapter 354: The Soft-Waisted Educated Youth Is Being Spoiled by His Boyfriend 17
The trio of younger brothers were even more in awe of Jin Chen's move.
Jin, you actually got the secretary to come over, that's amazing!
Jin Chen waved at them, gesturing for them to hurry up and sit down to continue watching the movie, and not to worry about these things.
"Tomorrow, go to town; you three come over in the morning to help me with some errands, and I'll come find you in the afternoon."
"Hey, what's the matter, Jin? Just say it." Xu Xiaoliu asked, his eyes still on the screen, without hesitation.
"It's not appropriate to say now; I'll tell you when we leave." Jin Chen replied casually.
Mo Zhinan overheard their chat, suddenly grabbed Jin Chen's finger, looked up at him, and said, "You're going to town tomorrow; when will you be back?"
"What about me? That's us."
Jin Chen then pinched his wife's fingertip, saying, "Don't worry, I won't leave you alone at home."
His gaze was too fervent; the youth lowered his eyes, unaccustomed, his ears slightly red, realizing he seemed to be clinging too much to Jin Chen.
"Do you think I'm… clingy?" They were just good friends; by doing this, he wondered if Jin Chen would find him annoying.
"Not at all; I actually think you're not clingy enough."
Jin Chen flicked his fingertip at his perky nose, saying, "Don't keep thinking nonsense; I wish you couldn't stay away from me."
Just a few short words dispelled Mo Zhinan's earlier worry and complex emotions; he nodded with a soft "uh," and the corners of his mouth lifted slightly.
He again acted coquettish, shaking Jin Chen's hand, and said, "Then tomorrow, come over and we'll go together."
"Of course."
Jin Chen had no interest in the movie, so he picked up his wife's hand and played with it in his palm, never tiring of it.
Suddenly noticing a faint gaze continually directed at him, he lifted his eyes to look over.
The moment his eyes met Gui Fang's, the sharpness in his gaze turned to astonishment.
Fortunately, Gui Fang then turned away, not continuing to look.
【Host, Mother seems to have noticed too, you're being too blatant!】
Jin Chen lowered his eyes; it should be no big problem.
Just now he hadn't seen any disdain or dissatisfaction in Gui Fang's eyes; it was merely scrutiny.
It seems tonight would be better if he took the initiative to speak, allowing for leniency through frankness.
——
After the movie ended, it was already 9:30 p. m.; in the countryside there were no recreational activities, so at this hour people usually planned to go to sleep.
After Jin Chen finished telling the trio of younger brothers about tomorrow's errands, he still escorted Mo Zhinan back to his house on Nanbian Shanpo before heading home with a flashlight.
Upon entering the gate, he saw Gui Fang sitting in the main hall waiting for him; the two, without speaking, avoided waking the already asleep Gui Hua, and walked together toward the courtyard.
Gui Fang sat on the corner stool, tilted her head to look at her son standing before her, first sighed, then gestured for him to sit.
"Chenzi, you know what Mother wants to ask, right?"
Jin Chen nodded and turned off the flashlight.
"Since that's the case, Mother won't beat around the bush," Gui Fang turned her head to look at the moon, her tone relaxed, without blame.
"You like Xiao Mo; Mother, as someone who's been there, can see that your gaze is exactly the same as when your father first began courting me."
"It's a pity your father's life was short; he couldn't see how successful you've become."
Jin Chen just listened silently, feeling that saying anything now would be wrong; fortunately, Gui Fang also had no intention of making him speak.
"Mother has lived many years and seen everything, and doesn't want to break up a mandarin duck pair; if you two like each other, that's fine."
Gui Fang said this, then finally turned to look at Jin Chen, "But, son, it's hard to please everyone; what would you do if others found out?"
Jin Chen laughed and shook his head, "Mother, I don't care what others think."
"A person can't spend a lifetime constantly worrying about others' opinions; living like that is too exhausting."
"Mother, not stopping me from liking Zhinan makes me happy; once my career takes off, I'll bring you to live in the city, and then no one will gossip."
Gui Fang listened quietly, then also smiled gently, her eyes full of loving tenderness.
"Then you should strive even harder; even if it's to keep Xiao Mo from criticism, you ought to work hard to earn big money."
She stood up, patted her clothes, and said, "Go to sleep; tomorrow bring Xiao home to eat."
Jin Chen blinked, gave an embarrassed smile, "Mother, I haven't caught him yet."
Gui Fang couldn't help laughing, poked Jin Chen's forehead with her index finger, and said, "Then just bring him home as a friend to eat."
"Hey, okay."
Jin Chen hadn't expected his talk with Mother to go so smoothly; his mood before bed improved considerably.
That night, most of the people in Fengshu Cun slept soundly.
——
Next day.
Early the next morning, Jin Chen set off for Nanbian Shanpo with two boiled eggs; on the way he met the trio of younger brothers who were about to go to town, and he added a few more reminders.
Only after they repeatedly assured him they would definitely get the job done did Jin Chen feel at ease letting them leave.
Jin Chen skillfully unlocked the courtyard gate with his key, entered, and noticed Mo Zhinan hadn't come out to greet him; he guessed that perhaps he was still tired from yesterday's movie and asleep.
He put the eggs on the table, went to the kitchen to boil water, prepared milk and steamed buns, took out two calcium tablets, and then brought everything to the table in the main hall.
"Zhinan, are you up?"
After doing all that, Jin Chen gently knocked on the bedroom door.
From inside came some rustling, sounding like he was getting dressed; after a moment the bedroom door swung open, and Mo Zhinan, still in a sweat shirt and shorts, looked at Jin Chen with sleepy eyes.
Then he nodded.
Jin Chen took a second to realize this was a reply to his earlier question about whether he was up; unable to resist his cuteness, he reached out and tousled his still somewhat messy hair.
"Since you're up, wash up and come out for breakfast."
Mo Zhinan nodded again, turned around and prepared to change clothes, but then suddenly remembered something, his eyes widened sharply, and all sleepiness vanished.
He quickly grabbed Jin Chen's arm, his whole body assuming a unique posture as he dove into the embrace, extending his arm to point at the spot he had covered with the fly cover from the dining table.
"What's going on? What is this?"
Jin Chen, not understanding, still hurriedly held the person in his arms, glanced sideways, and asked, "What's inside?"
"A mouse."
Mo Zhinan wore an expression as if facing a great enemy; he, from a northern city, had never seen such a large mouse.
"So you stayed up last night to catch the mouse, is that why you didn't sleep?" Jin Chen chuckled.
"I didn't catch it, I didn't dare," Mo Zhinan shrank further into his embrace, whispering like a tattletale, "It runs fast, it bumped into the bed corner on its own, I covered it with something, but I'm still scared."
He almost kept his eyes open until dawn, but eventually couldn't resist the overwhelming wave of sleepiness and closed his eyes to sleep.
"I'll go take a look," Jin Chen said.
