Chapter 629: Beast Tribe World: Raising a Wife 03
Early the next morning, several Sub-Beast females who were to form contracts had already arrived at the Lion Tribe.
Most were accompanied by family, except Bai Mo.
Amu had only recently died; he had cried his heart out a few days prior, and his eyes were still somewhat swollen, yet this did not at all affect his calm and unique demeanor and beauty.
Wearing the new black two-piece beast-skin skirt that Amu had prepared for him before his death, in order to cover the whiteness of his body, but this only made his exposed skin look even fairer.
His hair, beast ears, and drooping tail were all white, but his pupils were a rare blue; he truly did not resemble the beautiful leopard famed for its markings, and he stood out starkly from the surrounding beastfolk.
He seemed more like an elf who had mistakenly wandered into this forest.
Hua Wan was also waiting under the giant tree.
His appearance was somewhat ordinary yet pleasant, his tail's markings were very beautiful, and he was chatting happily with another Sub-Beast.
"That person, isn't he from your tribe? Why don't you go say hello?"
The Sub-Beast he was talking to was named Yu Wu, a Snake Tribe Sub-Beast, and while speaking he gestured toward the direction where Bai Mo stood alone.
"I'm a bit embarrassed to go over… Bai Mo doesn't like me."
Hua Wan shook her head, as if there were some things hard to bring up.
"Bai Mo is sensitive; he always feels that I and the people of the tribe are ostracizing him, but I truly once wanted to be his friend."
"Looking at him, he really doesn't look like a leopard; it's strange—our tribe's white snake beastfolk aren't even this white."
Yu Wu curiously sized up Bai Mo, but influenced by Hua Wan's preconceived notions, he actually ended up with a worse impression of him.
The sole female beast was also standing alone, chatting with her family nearby, and did not join their idle talk.
"Everyone, thanks for waiting—come with me."
Matriarch Dong Qian walked over, gesturing for everyone to follow her.
Before the marriage contract, both parties must meet again, exchange gifts they prepared for each other; during this process, if either side is dissatisfied, they have the right to refuse the contract.
Bai Mo held the gift he had prepared in his hands; he was a little nervous, his beast ears drooping, not knowing whether Jin Chen would like it.
His impression of Jin Chen only went back to childhood, when Amu rescued a tall, handsome older brother from the forest; aside from that, he had no other impressions.
"Bai Mo, child, come over."
Dong Qian extended her hand, her face bearing a kind and gentle smile; she waited until Bai Mo approached, then took his hand and spoke.
"Jin Chen has no father or mother; today's marriage rite will be performed by me standing in for Amu, and it is not in vain that he has called me Amu for all these years."
Bai Mo felt somewhat overwhelmed by the favor, yet remained polite; he nodded respectfully, but when he opened his mouth he didn't know what to call her.
Seeing his embarrassment, Dong Qian smiled and said, "From now on you will also be Jin Chen's partner, so just call me Amu."
But as soon as she finished speaking, Dong Qian recalled that Bai Mo's own Amu had just died not long ago, feeling it inappropriate, and then she heard Bai Mo call out.
"Amu."
Bai Mo's voice matched his personality—soft and gentle, calm as water.
"Eh, good, good child."
Dong Qian was extremely pleased; the Lion Tribe, recognized as the strongest among the neighboring tribes, and as its matriarch she had naturally heard of the Leopard Tribe's affairs, but she never expected Bai Mo to be so well-behaved.
"Let's go; Jin Chen is clearly getting impatient waiting."
Hua Wan's family followed behind, their faces not looking good.
"They should be the ones representing the Leopard Tribe, so why is the Lion Tribe's matriarch being so good to Bai Mo?"
Yu Wu still wanted to talk to Hua Wan, but after saying a few sentences he saw she was still absent‑minded, only staring at Bai Mo's back, feeling odd, and so he simply stopped speaking.
Jin Chen had already been waiting early at the chief's house.
He had specially changed into a fine-looking beast‑skin outfit, his demeanor full of vigor and anticipation, which made him appear even more handsome and stalwart.
Dong En was still an untransformed young male beast cub, circling around Jin Chen's feet.
"Now that Brother Jin is about to form a contract, he's different—he doesn't pay any attention to me!"
Jin Chen helplessly picked him up and tossed him onto a high stone; the cub was afraid of heights, so he would surely not bother him again.
Sure enough, Dong En, who had been grabbed by the neck, struggled wildly, but the moment his limbs touched the boulder he went still, shouting as he climbed up Jin Chen's arm.
"Beast‑killer! Don't put me on the stone!"
Jin Chen got a headache from the shouting, so he simply threw him into the grass.
At that moment, everyone happened to arrive outside.
The chief's house had several holes inside, and the outer courtyard was partitioned with wooden boards, which made it look fairly proper.
Bai Mo was walking when, out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly spotted an unknown lump flying toward him, accompanied by the cub's loud cries.
He instinctively caught it, and he himself was stunned; person and beast stared at each other with wide eyes.
Dong En also hadn't expected that what greeted him was not a chaotic pile of weeds but a warm embrace.
It opened a slit of an eye and immediately let out a wail.
What a strange and beautiful Sub‑Beast person!
Oh! A white beast‑person! Brother Jin's future partner!
Dong En confidently raised his paw, "Hello! Future sister‑in‑law!"
Bai Mo was choked by his sudden remark.
Dong Qian: "……"
She could bear it no longer, grabbed her cub by the ears and lifted him up, "What the hell! Go play over there!"
Meanwhile, Jin Chen had also walked over.

Bai Mo lowered his arms, lifted his gaze, and looked at the male beast‑person walking toward him.
His figure seemed to overlap with the memory of that older brother, yet also seemed not quite the same.
He was taller and more handsome than any male beast‑person Bai Mo had seen in his life up to that point.
He looks about two meters tall, his slightly long golden hair casually draped over his shoulders, his features deep and exuding wildness, yet his gaze when he looks over is gentle.
Bai Mo's nervousness peaked at this moment, and he unconsciously clenched the gift in his hand.
But even though he was that nervous, he didn't avoid Jin Chen's gaze; they locked eyes for a while, and after confirming he saw no disgust or dissatisfaction in that male beastman's eyes, Bai Mo finally relaxed a little.
At least, it's good enough if he doesn't think he's ugly.
His drooping beast ears twitched slightly upright, poking out from his white hair.
"Long time no see."
Jin Chen reached out his hand to him, palm up, showing a gentle smile.
Looking at the palm before him, Bai Mo's fingertips twitched slightly, he placed his hand on it, and then was taken hold of and pulled up.
"Long time no see."
Bai Mo thought, this meeting went much better than he had expected; at least he wasn't thrown out in public.
Behind him, Hua Wan looked surprised, she glanced at Jin Chen several times, feeling a bit unwilling, and finally bit her lip and lowered her head.
After all, Bai Mo is so special, he is so ordinary—how could he still ask for better?
You guys go in too; Du Feng and the others are waiting inside the east cave entrance.
Dong Qian smiled as he spoke to the other three; each of their elders had already gone to the place where they would later form the bond.
Finally, only the two of them remained.
"This is the gift I prepared for you."
Jin Chen extended his other hand, opening his palm to reveal a cord bearing an ice-blue crystal pendant; the cord was made of soft beast skin, finely crafted.
