Chapter 644: Beast World: Raising a Wife 19
Soon after, the ferocious beast was completely struck in its vital point by Jin Chen, collapsing with a thunderous roar of unwillingness, its body covered in wounds, a sight too horrible to behold.
Jin Chen also got injured; after landing and resuming human form, he had a wound on his arm from the beast's claw, and the others were all injured to varying degrees.
The worst injured was Du Feng, who took a direct claw to the chest from the ferocious beast and almost fainted outright.
He was helped up by A Zhou and leaned against the tree trunk, gritting his teeth as he pulled out the herbal medicine, not knowing how to use it, and looked toward Jin Chen.
"This is an ointment; just scoop it out and apply it to the wound—it stops pain and bleeding quickly."
Jin Chen also applied some ointment himself and personally demonstrated it for Du Feng.
This naturally drew the attention of the others as well.
"You're not saying this thing was made by your partner, are you? What is it?"
"Yeah, does it really stop bleeding?"
Their curiosity about this far exceeded their interest in food.
"Sure, anyone who's injured can come over and use it."
This time we brought along a common hemostatic ointment, and we still have plenty left at home, so Jin Chen was not stingy at all.
But once applied, some of those who had been loafing about earlier could no longer hide.
Originally, one team was supposed to protect the food while hunting, and another team was to kill the ferocious beast; yet in that dangerous situation just now, someone stood there doing nothing.
Naturally, this does not include the protagonist, Tuoluote, who at least still wanted to defend his dignity as Second Warrior; although he rushed to the front and didn't gain any glory, he still suffered quite a few injuries.
Jin Chen also threw him a tube of ointment.
It wasn't out of soft-heartedness or forgiveness for his actions; it was simply because there are too many people here—better to let Tuoluote dig his own grave and then cooperate than to confront him head‑on.
"My Beast God! It really doesn't hurt anymore!"
"No more bleeding! That's fast!"
Leaning on his wife, Jin Chen again stole the limelight, his eager gaze toward him full of envy.
"I told you, how could you be willing to contract with such a strangely‑looking partner? Turns out your Bai Mo is really powerful!"
Jin Chen didn't like hearing that; he casually picked up a small stone and threw it over.
"Get lost—who's strange? My Bai Mo is the best‑looking."
"Oh——"
They all burst into laughter, flowers blooming in their smiles.
"Honestly, this is a great thing for our tribe! It's amazing!"
The speaker sighed, touching the tree trunk.
"If only we had this herb when his father was injured! Then he wouldn't have been dragged to the brink of death."
Jin Chen sensed his sentiment and threw another tube of ointment over.
"Look ahead."
"I know."
He chuckled, and in the end didn't continue to indulge in wild thoughts.
After the fight, everyone was tired, so Jin Chen found a relatively open abandoned beast den, confirmed it was safe, and then let everyone come in to rest first.
He closed his eyes to rest, secretly glancing at his wife on the spatial screen.
Only then did he discover that Bai Mo was treating the sick offspring in the tribe.
Bai Mo, already capable of standing on his own, handled these matters with ease.
Seeing him praised by the crowd, Jin Chen quietly stroked the crystal on his chest, feeling a warm, comforting peace in his heart.
He reckoned the days in his mind; there was still a while before he could return.
Over the next few days, the group encountered no particularly dangerous beasts; while hunting and searching for new foodstuffs, Jin Chen discovered that the forest still had plenty to offer.
Wild potatoes, soybean sprouts, gourd leaves, and various kinds of herbs.
In front of everyone, Jin Chen gathered many potatoes and soybean sprouts and told them these could be transplanted and grown for food.
But most people still found it troublesome, thinking the stored meat would be enough for winter, while a few who trusted Jin Chen followed his example.
Afterward, he stored the remaining seeds and various herbs in bulk in his space, so his wife wouldn't have to go up the mountain to look for them later.
This time Jin Chen also brought some chili powder, lit a fire in the temporary resting cave, and on the spot stewed potatoes and yellow soybeans for them to eat.
The males who ate it naturally praised it without end, and upon learning that this crop is easy to grow and yields abundantly when replanted, they were overjoyed.
Thanks to these things, Jin Chen won even greater favor in the hunting team, reaching the point where his word is law.
Jin Chen's leadership ability is strong, his strength is off the charts, and now he understands so many novel things; they naturally are convinced and obedient.
But as Jin Chen's fortunes rose, Tuoluote felt the gap between himself and Jin Chen widening.
Before, it was merely a comparison between the two of them; now that they both have partners, who would have thought the gap between the partners themselves could be so large.
Thinking back to how he had once been smug about choosing Hua Wan as his partner, believing Jin Chen only deserved such a strange companion, Tuoluote felt as unpleasant as if he had eaten a mouthful of sand.
Gradually, a thought arose in Tuoluote's mind.
If Jin Chen does not die, he can only forever be suppressed.
Thus Tuoluote began his own scheming.
Over these days, Jin Chen noticed Tuoluote's unrest, pretended not to know anything, and continued to lead the hunting team in searching for winter provisions throughout the forest.
But in his heart he guessed when Tuoluote intended to make his move.
"Jin Chen, there's some movement over there—should we go check?"
At noon, Jin Chen was resting; hearing this, he narrowed his eyes and glanced sideways, asking, "What movement?"
"It's just the sound of leaves being dragged—very strange. Don't wake the others; let's go take a look."
The speaker was Qing Shan, also a tribe member who rarely spoke in the hunting team; Jin Chen had originally had no suspicions about him, but upon standing up he discovered that Tuoluote happened to be absent.
It's the middle of the day and he's not resting—just his luck that he's not there.
Jin Chen glanced at Qing Shan, his gaze clear and perceptive, "Are you sure there really is movement here?"
"Yes, there really is."
Qing Shan nodded, pointed toward the east, his eyes not dodging in the slightest.
"... Fine."
Jin Chen thought, then stepped forward, following him east; as he left, he flicked his wrist and tossed a small stone at A Zhou.
"Ouch."
A Zhou was hit, half-asleep, and saw the stone suddenly make him jerk.
He recalled Jin Chen's earlier words, turned to look for Tuoluote, but saw him just walking back from the other side.
"'Where did you go?' A Zhou asked quietly."
"'Convenient.'"
Tuoluote answered him coldly, casually leaning against a tree trunk to sleep.
But Jin Chen didn't say he had discovered Tuoluote still wanting to make a move, and would remind himself if anything happened?
"This should count as a reminder, right?"
A Zhou played with the stone in his hand, then shook Du Feng awake: "Du Feng! I found some nice stones over there; come look with me."
Du Feng, shaken awake, found his words even more absurd, and threw a punch.
"'Are you sick?!'"
"'Hey! Why did you hit me? Come look for stones with me!'"
A Zhou gritted his teeth, emphasizing the word 'stone' again.
"'Stone, stone, you didn't pop out of a rock crack—why are you always thinking about stone…'"
Du Feng's tirade paused, he suddenly remembered something, and looked at A Zhou, gesturing with his eyes toward Tuoluote.
A Zhou nodded frantically.
