Chapter 878: I Who Exist for You 14
The two entered the temple together.
In Yishen's life experience, which could hardly be called brief, he had never entered a temple before.
Born special, he had been regarded as an omen since childhood; how could his family allow him to go in and out of such a place, so he felt deep-seated fear and vague rejection.
Only when he grew up did he reconcile with himself.
The temple was as dilapidated as the outside, yet clean and tidy, as if someone had swept it carefully.
Yishen found it novel, while Jin Chen was very cautious.
Although they had chosen to come up this mountain themselves, how coincidental that there happened to be a ruined temple with a monk on the mountain.
It would be best if nothing were wrong, but if something were, I'd fear it had something to do with those dogs from the Time Exchange again.
"Who dares intrude upon my temple gate?"
A hoarse, rotting voice came from the inner door.
Jin Chen stepped forward half a pace, just blocking Yishen, and spoke tentatively, "We're just passing by and came in to take shelter from the rain."
"Shelter from the rain… hahaha."
The hoarse voice chuckled a few times, then there was the sound of someone rising from the inner room, steps slow.
The wooden door was pushed open; Jin Chen looked ahead and met a pair of eyes that were yellowed with age yet sharp.
The old monk walked slowly, leaning on a cane with his right hand, his robe washed to a faded tear, one leg lame, yet his person was kept clean.
Youngster, it's not raining outside; you're deceiving this old man… No, no!
Jin Chen showed no guilt at lying, "Maybe it'll rain later; this temple looks deserted from outside, I thought no one was here."
His tone wasn't respectful; Yishen could only pat his arm and step forward, saying, "Master, if we're bothering you, we'll leave now."
He was already not good at communicating with outsiders, but now he had no choice but to protect Jin Chen.
"No need, no need."
The old monk chuckled, looking at both their faces, "Since you've come, light a stick of incense for the Buddha; consider it an early New Year's greeting."
He shuffled over, his wrinkled hand trembling as he took an incense stick, handed it to Jin Chen, and gestured.
"How strange."
Jin Chen took the incense half-believing, half-doubting, exchanged a glance with Yishen, and lit it before the tarnished bronze Buddha.
As the incense smoke swirled up, Yishen's vision blurred; looking through the smoke at Jin Chen, he saw nothing.
His heart jolted; he instinctively reached out, yet managed to grasp that arm precisely.
"What's wrong, Shen Shen?"
Jin Chen gripped back, waved away the smoke, and asked doubtfully, lowering his head.
Watching Jin Chen reappear as the smoke dissipated, Yishen blinked slowly, as if confirming something, and felt compelled to stroke his cheek.
Jin Chen obliged, turning his head to lightly rub against Yishen's palm.
Yishen turned his head again, looking at the old monk still waiting aside, his eyes complex and dark.
"Good, good."
The old monk turned his prayer beads, nodded at Yishen, "Benefactor… do not obsess over illusory things."
If before it was merely a guess, hearing this made it completely clear: the old monk had indeed seen through Jin Chen's secret.
Yishen tightened his grip on Jin Chen's hand, lips pressed thin, "Thank you, Master, for pointing the way; but whether it's illusory or not, I know in my heart."
He created this character Jin Chen, so Jin Chen is real.
Jin Chen also finally understood what they were saying, he firmly embraced Yishen's waist and whispered, "Is this old monk warning me?"
"No… no."
Faced with the two's successive doubts, the old monk showed no anger, "I've seen many strange tales, but benefactor, you were born with a special constitution; if you insist on coexisting with illusory things…"
He let out a long sigh, turning his prayer beads, and continued, "It may invite a disaster of blood and light."
As soon as those words left his mouth, Jin Chen's expression changed abruptly; he straightened his body and glared at the old monk.
"What are you saying, you old bald donkey? I've never met anyone so weird; it's really infuriating."
It's reasonable to suspect this is also a plant set up by those dogs from the Time Exchange.
"Don't get angry."
The old monk smiled, twitched his fingers, then turned and went back, "It's time; go back, go back."
"See you again later."
He again tottered back to his room, leaning on his cane.
As he brushed past Jin Chen, the curious 0731 extended to scan.
【Ahhhhh Host! He also has traces of time travel on him!】
Bang—
The wooden board door was shut.
Yishen, having just had his secret seen through, didn't want to stay; he pulled Jin Chen and walked out.
"Don't believe what he says; don't take it to heart."
He himself had no confidence, and still worried that Jin Chen would be hurt by what the old monk just said.
"I didn't hear it; Shen Shen isn't worried; let's hurry and leave this place."
Jin Chen glanced again at the ruined temple, not understanding what this act was supposed to be.
He pursed his lips, hugged Yishen tight, "Really weird."
As his words fell, 0731 detected another fluctuation of the transmigration device and hurriedly notified Jin Chen.
The forest paths were tangled and complex; Jin Chen walked toward the place of the fluctuation, the muddy ground damp, so he had Yishen wait where he was.
Yishen watched him go, seeming to follow some target, lowered his eyes silently, and waited quietly in place.
The days until meeting Jin Chen grew longer, and the things he hid seemed to have increased as well.
But Jin Chen said their souls were connected; they should be the most intimate people.
Yishen frowned awkwardly, feeling this mindset was very strange, something he had never experienced before.
【Detected Villain Heartthrob Value +5, total 32!】
When Jin Chen heard the broadcast, he had already found the hiding place of the Time Exchange members.
That's the one from the coffee shop earlier, plus three others, holding energy guns, as if searching for something.
Looking at the time-travel device in the leader's hand, one could guess they were looking for Yishen.
Jin Chen thought so, so he swaggered out, preparing to give this bunch of bastards another surprise.
As soon as he poked his head out, he met the leader's gaze and instantly saw a white flash; the time-travel device was activated.
The white light blazed.
Two seconds later, all was calm.
Number Eight kept aiming the device gun at Jin Chen.
Jin Chen: '... Are you sick?'
He frowned, clicked his tongue twice, his long legs stepping back several steps: 'Your brain is really not normal.'
Number Eight: '...'
Number Eight thought his device gun malfunctioned, fired three more shots, but this person wasn't sucked away by the device.
The time he set up was only two years ago; how could it fail? There must be only one explanation.
'You're not human?!'
Jin Chen crossed his arms in surprise, full of arrogant vigor: 'Who are you calling non-human? You damn thing!'
'I think your weird outfits don't look human at all.'
Saying that, he casually picked up a bamboo stick from the ground, patted it in his palm, with a provocative tone.
'You want to kill me with this broken gun?'
'Get him!'
Number Eight could only retract the device gun and ordered his three subordinates to quickly seize the person.
'Yo, playing hide-and-seek again.'
Jin Chen was quite interested, vanishing in a flash before some bastard could touch him.
His voice faintly came from the air.
'If you can't find me in two minutes, you're done for.'
