Chapter 892: I Exist for You 28
Yishen woke up, already half an hour later.
He was overly frightened; even in his comatose dream he remained unsettled, over and over repeating that first precognitive dream.
It was only upon hearing Jin Chen's call that he broke free from the death cycle and jerked awake.
Freezing rain still fell outside, no light...
Jin Chen wasn't there either.
Yishen's breath suddenly halted; fear welled up from his eyes, his body trembling, unable to utter a word.
Why...
Why couldn't I still escape!
"Jin Chen..."
Yishen called out softly with a trembling voice.
Yishen thought he had used a loud voice, but in reality it was no different from a breath.
Jin Chen, who was warming water for him in the kitchen, didn't hear it.
"Jin Chen... isn't here."
Yishen sat dazed, no longer seeing his usual composure and ease, like a child unable to find security.
Tears fell without warning, a mist blurred his vision, his heart plunged into dread as if crushed by a boulder.
He clutched the blanket, sat up and curled into the corner, covering his ears to avoid hearing the sound of branches snapping outside.
Crack.
The bedroom door opened, a flashlight beam swept in; Yishen startled, jerked his body, grabbed the fruit knife on the nightstand and tried to stab forward.
"Shenshen!"
Jin Chen, fearing he might hurt himself, rushed forward and snatched the knife away; Yishen, immersed in the repeated terror of death, kept his eyes shut, only aware that someone was taking the knife.
Taut to the limit, a hoarse sound escaped his throat, yet he was pulled into an embrace, held tightly.
"Shenshen… be good, you're alright, can you give me the knife?"
Jin Chen ached terribly, his hoarse voice soothing, his palm continually stroking the thin back in his arms.
"Jin Chen..."
Yishen hesitated, calling softly, yet still dared not open his eyes, afraid to see in the darkness those pairs of eyes that seemed to glow, like a murderer's.
"It's me, I'm here, Shenshen is safe."
Jin Chen lowered his head to kiss away the tears continually spilling from Yishen's eyes, "There's light in the room, Shenshen, open your eyes and look at me?"
The familiar scent and embrace let Yishen gradually withdraw from extreme fear, distinguishing reality from dream.
He slowly opened his eyes; everything was blurred by tears, after wiping them away he saw Jin Chen's expression full of worry and pity.
The flashlight pointed at the ceiling, giving the room a faint light source; even a little was enough to dispel the fear of darkness.
Yishen's breath gradually eased, his trembling fingers caressing Jin Chen's face; the gentleness in his gaze turned to anguish at this moment.
"You've come back."
Those four short words were like a heavy hammer, striking Jin Chen's heart until it ached and burned.
"Yes, I'm back; did I come back late? It's my fault for not protecting Shenshen well."
Jin Chen pressed his forehead against Yishen's, his Adam's apple rolling, wishing he could crush him into his bones.

"No, no, not late."
Even though he had just faced a life‑and‑death crisis, hearing Jin Chen blame himself, Yishen still immediately offered comfort.
He pulled his lips into a smile, kissed Jin Chen's cheek, "I haven't… haven't died; your return isn't late."
"Are you hurt? Is it dangerous there? Don't worry about me…"
"Shenshen."
Jin Chen interrupted him, and of course he could see Yishen was using these words to deliberately feign strength.
"I'm not hurt; it's just that Shenshen is in danger now and hiding it from me that makes me sad."
Jin Chen cupped his face, speaking word by word: "Shenshen, don't pretend in front of me, okay? This won't put me at ease; it only makes me feel……"
He paused, his voice hoarse: "It makes me feel that I, as a partner, have failed terribly."
Yishen fell silent.
The tears he had just stopped began to burst again, his lips twitched slightly, muscles faintly spasming.
He leaned into Jin Chen's embrace, shedding tears silently.
After a long while, Yishen finally spoke: "You're not a failure, I just…" accustomed to hiding emotions.
The latter half of the sentence never left his lips.
Yishen knew this habit was bad, at least for a partner it wasn't honest.
He rubbed gently against Jin Chen's neck, choking up, his tone soft, trying to explain things clearly.
"If you hadn't come back, I had a dream: someone broke into the house, I hid in the study and saw on the computer a strange file saying I would die… and then I was actually killed."
"Then I woke up from the sofa, thinking it was a dream, but the dream's scene replayed in reality, and there was another sound outside the door."
Yishen now recalls that the fear back then, like a bone‑deep maggot, still lingered; he buried himself in Jin Chen's embrace, breathing the unique sandalwood scent, and only after a long while did he continue.
"I got the computer beforehand, altered the file so the plot would appear automatically, buying time until you returned."
The near‑death crisis, briefly described by Yishen in a few words, Jin Chen could still sense the danger.
The computer file that foretells death.
Jin Chen had no doubt, rubbing his head as he praised, "Shenshen, you're amazing, especially especially great."
"Yeah… I want to go look at that file."
Yishen suddenly remembered, but he didn't want to leave the warm embrace; he only lifted his head to look at Jin Chen, the meaning obvious without words.
Jin Chen held him as he rose, letting Yishen take the flashlight and go to the Study.
Just as Yishen opened his laptop, the document popped up automatically, but the text began disappearing line by line.
Before their eyes, the parts about Yishen's death that hadn't been deleted began to disappear automatically.
Jin Chen stared intently, afraid of any further mistake.
After the deletion, only one sentence remained in the document.
— "The creator, relying on bravery and wisdom, saved his own life; he's amazing! The reward is for the ultimate victor!"
Afterwards, a website link appeared in faint gray text below.
Yishen hesitated a little, instinctively looking at Jin Chen.
"It's fine, I'll click it."
Jin Chen touched the touchpad, clicked the link, and instantly jumped to a website.
Jin Chen noticed that the website's final suffix was hcs., his brow furrowed slightly, and a speculation arose in his mind.
After buffering, the website's content gradually appeared.
Yishen scrolled and looked, quite surprised, "These are the documents of Xuyuchuan's dealings with Ke Bi, plus evidence of Ke Bi's plagiarism..."
It was far more complete than what they currently had.
Originally, it was already almost enough to let readers see clearly who the plagiarist was; if this evidence were released, Ke Bi would have no chance to turn things around.
For Yishen, this was indeed the best reward.
If the book Winter Sea Poems could completely clear the plagiarism stains, it would not only defend his creation but also be fair to Jin Chen.
Yishen put the computer back on the desk, then leaned back into Jin Chen's embrace, holding him tightly.
"You finally don't have to be blamed for living someone else's life."
Jin Chen hummed softly, his voice light as a falling feather, and a tender kiss landed on Yishen's cheek.
