Chapter 913: Childhood Sweethearts 07

~7 min read 1,261 words

The child didn't know what had happened, only knowing Father said this person could buy him milk tea.

So the child immediately rushed over and clung to Cheng Huai's leg, shouting repeatedly, "Milk tea! Uncle, buy me milk tea! I want the best-tasting, most expensive one!"

The child looked a lot like his father, which made Cheng Huai, who had been bullied by Jipin Biaoge since childhood, feel physically uncomfortable seeing that face.

Cheng Huai wriggled free of their grasp, glaring at Jipin Biaoge, "You have no money in your pocket? I still have to buy him a cup of milk tea—your cheapskate mindset hasn't changed at all."

"Cheng Huai! You ungrateful wretch who doesn't care about family!"

Jipin Biaoge suddenly started shouting loudly, drawing the attention of many customers; the clerk quietly reminded him to keep quiet in public.

But it obviously didn't help.

"I almost forgot—this place isn't far from your school, right? Do the people here and your schoolmates know you're someone who ignores your parents, living it up outside like a beast?"

Cheng Huai took a deep breath, laughed bitterly; although he'd grown used to this family's shamelessness, he still couldn't hold back his anger.

"You're still so fond of scolding people in public, huh?"

He shook off the child's lunging hand, his attitude unyielding, gripping the bag tightly.

"Do you think this will draw others' eyes, bringing a glimmer of glamour and glory to your dull, tasteless, ignorant life?"

"You…!"

Jipin Biaoge hadn't expected that, after not seeing him for nearly a year, the person he'd bullied since childhood—so weak—would become so sharp-tongued.

The child was shouted into tears by Cheng Huai, yelling that he wanted Father to punish him back home.

The customers who had just found their argument noisy now stopped trying to intervene, merely gathering around to watch the spectacle.

"Well done! You've been away from home only a short time and already grown wings! You haven't been home long, yet your parents' living expenses are all paid by me! Today you'll give me whatever I say!"

As soon as he said that, the onlookers started whispering again, clucking their tongues, and their glances at Cheng Huai carried a hint of disdain.

Cheng Huai completely lost any desire for milk tea, his head pounding from the chaos; he rolled his eyes.

"They treat you like their own son—you're the real family."

Having said that, he shoved aside the insistent child and tried to leave, but just as he turned he nearly bumped into someone, instinctively stepped back, and the child lunging again grabbed hold of the bag in his hand.

Cheng Huai swayed from the pull, Mu Henian startled slightly, instinctively reaching out to steady him.

Rip—

The plastic bag tore easily, the coat fell to the ground, the child lost his balance again, cried out "ouch!" and fell straight onto it, tearing the coat further.

The child crawled on the ground, stunned for a few seconds, then burst into loud wails.

Mu Henian lowered his head, glanced at the coat, and saw the dirty footprints left by the child; his face darkened.

Cheng Huai: "……" It's over.

How could an angelic handsome guy be here!!

"Sorry… could you let go of me first?"

Cheng Huai spoke carefully, poking Mu Henian's shoulder, feeling the hand wrapped around his waist was unusually cold.

He feared that if this handsome guy got angry, he'd have to pay in full!

Behind him, the child kept wailing; Jipin Biaoge yanked the child up and roared, "Cheng Huai! What are you quibbling with a kid about? Are you crazy?"

Cheng Huai was utterly furious, his anger turning into a bitter laugh; he squeezed out a smile at Mu Henian, "Handsome guy, let's talk about the clothing compensation later—wait three minutes."

Mu Henian, as if he'd already guessed what would happen, nodded, stepped back a few paces, and silently put the earphones hanging from his neck back on.

Cheng Huai turned, expressionless, hands on hips, and began to berate.

"What are you shouting for! It's just that you damn well have a mouth! We wanted to give you face in public, but you still lack brains, big and bulky, can't even control a kid."

"You still think you can keep taking advantage, huh! You can't even afford a cup of milk tea yet dare to have a kid—do you want him to end up like you, after your parents die, going to steal others' parents?"

The child didn't let up either, snatching back the bag and lecturing.

"And you! Stop learning useless things from your dad—didn't your kindergarten teacher tell you not to take others' stuff?"

"If your dad doesn't pay me for this coat, I'll drag you under the bridge and hand you over to the beggars!"

The child was so scared he didn't dare cry, his lips trembling as he kept trying to duck behind his father.

Jipin Biaoge: "……"

Onlookers: "……" Wow, impressive.

Cheng Huai finished his tirade in one breath, then took a deep breath, put on a smile, and politely apologized to the clerk.

"Sorry about that, young man."

Clerk: "... haha, no problem."

Jipin Biaoge finally reacted, after struggling for a while to find a rebuttal, he could only latch onto what Cheng Huai had just said and not let go.

"After all this fuss, you still want to pay, huh! Tell me, how much is this ragged coat worth?"

Cheng Huai: "One hundred twenty thousand, pay up."

He extended his hand.

Jipin Biaoge:???

"Cheng Huai, are you fucking crazy! You think this is hell money, daring to demand that much! Why don't you just rob a bank?"

Mu Henian kicked back, stepped slightly in front of Cheng Huai, and said coldly, "This coat is mine."

"If you need a receipt, I can provide one."

Mu Henian was genuinely furious.

He had only heard from Cheng Huai's occasional words that his relatives were bloodsuckers; now experiencing it firsthand, he realized how hard it was for a teenager like Cheng Huai to want to grow up peacefully.

"What, what kind of joke is this!"

Jipin Biaoge recoiled from his aura, but after recovering felt embarrassed to be intimidated by someone younger than himself.

In his mind, how could a piece of clothing possibly cost 100,000!

"You're young and still dare to scam people—aren't you afraid I'll call the police?"

Mu Henian: "Okay, let's go now."

He gets angrier, his tone grows calmer, like ice that never melts all year: "Deliberately damaging someone else's property will incur administrative penalties."

He pulls out a business card from his pocket and throws it at Jipin Biaoge, without a shred of politeness.

"I'll have my lawyer contact you."

Having said that, he grabs Cheng Huai's hand and turns to leave.

Cheng Huai was squatting on the ground, trying to save this coat; seeing Mu Henian's grim expression, he didn't struggle, thinking, "This handsome guy won't drag me out to sell me, will he?"

Gripping the business card in his hand, Jipin Biaoge made out the words on it; although there was some English he couldn't read, the name of whatever group was enough to intimidate him, a man who had never left his small town half his life.

"One hundred twenty thousand..."

"How... how am I supposed to pay for this!"

The onlookers sighed in unison; even those standing nearby, fearing they'd get caught in the fallout, hurriedly left the scene.

The shop staff, utterly impolite, ushered him and his child out, along with that already tattered coat.
