Chapter 172: I'm Sorry
Qi Jing was between laughter and tears, but not daring to show it on his face, he had to lower his head and pretend to coax his daughter.
Hearing the waiter call out "President Sheng" and "President Qi," Zhu Yuan couldn't help but turn her head to look.
Caught off guard, she met the man's dark eyes, which seemed to be brewing a storm, and her heart skipped a beat.
Ever since they parted on bad terms that night, they hadn't been in contact for several days; meeting today was inevitable, but seeing him so suddenly, still looking handsome and noble in his suit, Zhu Yuan felt conflicted.
He was truly handsome, and truly annoying!
Song Ci said something to her, and she smiled and looked away.
Sheng Yu narrowed his eyes; what did she mean by that?
"Yu Ge, Qi Ge."
A gentle, pleasant voice came over.
Ning Huaiqing walked over gracefully, holding the hem of her gown, her long hair pinned up, her eyes looking at Sheng Yu with tenderness.
Sheng Yu gave an expressionless "mm," and Qi Jing nodded with a smile, "You arrived early?"
"A little earlier than you. Is this Qi Qi? She's grown so much, what a little beauty she is." Ning Huaiqing smiled and stroked Qi Qi's soft hair.
"She was only a few months old when I went abroad."
Qi Jing paused for a moment, glanced sideways at Sheng Yu, who showed no emotion on his face, and nodded with a smile.
"Auntie, you smell so good."
Qi Qi looked at her with her big, round eyes and gave a sweet smile.
She just felt that the scent on this auntie was very pleasant and comforting.
The elevator door next to them opened.
Hearty laughter rang out, and a group of people walked out with steady steps; Yuan Fengye's father walked on the side, with Sheng Hongyao in the lead, followed by other members of the Sheng Family.
"You've arrived too." Yuan's father wore a smile, though he felt very uneasy inside.
He kept a close eye on the situation between Sheng Yu and Sheng Hongyao, terrified that the two father-son enemies would clash and ruin the wedding scene.
Fortunately, Sheng Yu didn't even spare Sheng Hongyao a glance and walked straight inside.
Qi Jing and Ning Huaiqing greeted them respectively.
Ning Huaiqing said softly, "Sheng."
Sheng Hongyao gave an "mm," his gaze sweeping over Ning Huaiqing, a flash of sharpness seemingly passing beneath his calm, waveless exterior.
Guests arrived one after another.
The wedding was about to begin.
"I forgot the veil, look at my memory!" Zhu Yuan just realized what was missing from Song Ci, "I'll go get it right away."
Song Ci held her back, "No need to bother, it's just going through the motions."
"No, today is your wedding." Zhu Yuan felt as if she were truly sending a sister off to be married, and her eyes couldn't help but turn red.
Song Ci's eyes also reddened; the two looked at each other and burst into laughter simultaneously, turning their heads away as if amused by one another.
Both of them felt bitter inside.
Zhu Yuan went to the dressing room to find the veil, but as she turned around, she saw Sheng Yu standing at the door.
Tall and long-legged, he stood at the entrance, his head almost touching the door frame, his gaze dark and fixed directly on her. It made Zhu Yuan's heart race, and she instinctively gripped the veil, but it was already too late to pretend she hadn't seen him.
The man walked toward her, his tone unkind, "Who let you wear this?"
"This is just how bridesmaid dresses are; it's normal for me to wear it this way, there's nothing wrong with it." Zhu Yuan couldn't understand what he was angry about this time; how could a person have so much anger to spare?
"You call such revealing clothes normal?"
Revealing?
Zhu Yuan happened to be standing next to a full-length mirror and glanced sideways at it; Sheng Yu also looked at the mirror, and their eyes met. Sheng Yu's gaze traveled slowly from her face downward, sweeping across her chest with deep meaning.
Even though Sheng Yu was more than familiar with her body, being stared at so directly while she was dressed made her blush instantly, "There's nothing wrong with the dress itself, it's just that I have a good figure, is that not allowed?"
"You know you have a good figure too!" The moment Sheng Yu thought about all the men at the wedding seeing her dressed like this, a fire spread through his entire body.
"Put it on!"
The man handed her something.
Only then did Zhu Yuan see that he was holding an apricot-colored shawl. She felt a sense of defiance, "I won't put it on. I'm showing off my figure openly, and I haven't done anything illegal."
"You're showing it off openly? Is this your main event for you to be showing off? If you want to show off, there will be plenty of opportunities after you get married."
Zhu Yuan didn't know if she was muddled by his overbearing nature, but she blurted out, "You wouldn't agree to it then either..."
Meeting the man's suddenly deepening gaze, Zhu Yuan realized what she had said, her eyes darting away, her face flushing with embarrassment.
Sheng Yu stared at her face; he took a step toward her, and Zhu Yuan instinctively took a step back.
He moved forward again, and she retreated again; the moment she had nowhere left to go and her body hit the mirror, Sheng Yu caught her waist and pulled her into his arms, seeing that even her ears had turned red.
If it were before, he would have teased her, but her words just now left him unable to calm his mood.
He said in a low voice, "How do you know I wouldn't agree?"
"I was just giving an example," Zhu Yuan said.
As she struggled, Sheng Yu held her tighter, "Don't go!"
The mirror reflected the two of them embracing, the scene made beautiful and warm by the dressing room lights.
The man, tall as a green pine, slowly leaned down, rubbing his head against the woman's ear, and said hoarsely, "Are you still angry with me?"
Zhu Yuan felt a tingle in the ear he had brushed against, and her soft, delicate body trembled gently like a petal.
She instinctively gripped the veil to soothe her surging, overflowing emotions.
Receiving no answer, Sheng Yu was neither hurried nor annoyed; holding her soft form in his arms, all his anger and fire seemed to have been extinguished.
As those terrible emotions dispersed like clouds and mist, he unearthed the most genuine feeling from the depths of his heart, suddenly realizing it seemed to be heartache.
His arms tightened inch by inch, as if afraid of losing something.
Sheng Yu held her tightly, kissing her hair, and whispered, "I'm sorry."
Zhu Yuan's mind went boom, turning completely blank.
She felt as if she had been struck by lightning; Sheng Yu's apology was like a thunderclap, leaving her distraught, her whole body stiff and numb, her heart almost stopping.
In a panic, she pushed him away, snatched the shawl from his hand in her fluster, and fled in her high heels.
Sheng Yu clenched his fingers, the lingering warmth of her body still in his palm.
He watched Zhu Yuan's retreating figure with a deep frown as she nearly tripped, as if some ferocious beast were chasing her from behind.
His expression sank abruptly.
What did she mean by this?
